Mate asked me to check and repack the bearings on his car trailer yesterday after he noticed a 'noise' on the w/end.
As soon as I jacked up the left side, the rear wheel fell off on it's own, still bolted to the hub
lol Nice deep gouge in the bottom of the spindle - much like a shaft keyway. Hub has deeper grooves than a vinyl record, and split on the outer edge. Other 3 wheel's bearing are also buggered, with one of them having the rollers fall onto the ground when I removed it's hub!
With the roughly 3/4 turn takeup available with the crown nuts, my guess is whoever played with 'em last time, hadn't bothered doing them up properly, or rechecked after they'd been ran for a few k's
Winter time, make sure your wheel bearings are regreased and in good condition, ready for spring
