Lost - Yeah, Oztent do a copy of the Black Wolf too.

The tent is so easy to put up. Take out of bag, straighten 4 hinged poles until they click, get inside and push the the middle of the roof until it all pops into shape. Then it's just one peg in each corner. Max 5 mins if you're taking it easy. I can get ours to this stage in under 3 mins.

Then, if you want to add the fly it's maybe another 3 mins. Just throw it over the roof, connect 4 clips (one each corner) and add a couple of poles to keep the awning up.

Pickup is just the reverse and even quicker.

I love our BW. The packed size suited us better as it easily fits in the back of the car. We've been in some torrential rain and it's never leaked a drip.

Despite the marketing hype, the Oztent is not a 30sec tent. I don't think they include putting in pegs or the poles for the awning in that timing :)
I had a look at a 300 on the way home from work adn it has zip open flaps in the roof on the very top, no way I could see that being water proof.... maybe the smaller ones dont have the openings... the 300 is too big for what i want
might just go the oztrail 9x9 for $250 and bank the rest.

Those flaps must be new, not in ours. Sounds like the $250 job could be the way to go!

Just went to Rays up the road from work to check out the RV3 on display. Very nice.. Very nice indeed... Top quality, no doubt.

I'm a little disappointed in the height as you cant stand up in them... They also had one of the Wolf tents there, but not interested in flys and crap.

Hmmm what to do now, good single pole canvas tents are few and far between for under a billion $.

Happy with this tent so far (Outdoor Connection Cooper) didn't cost an arm and a leg, can peg the bottom windows open during rain so I don't get gassed by DH
Unfortunately it's so fast and easy to set up we never bother with the kids tent pictured next to it, they just end up going in with us (great more fart gas...lucky there's lots of windows). Actually we were thinking of buying a single pole tent for the kids too but thinking of going with swags now...even get a swag for us to contain the bedding and a comfy mattress even if it ends up being thrown into the tent most of the time....those 4wd mats are too bulky and Hubby doesn't like the thinner hiking self inflatables.

Have you looked at how much room a rolled swag with "bedding and a comfy mattress" occupies? A fair bit more than a self inflating mattress and bedding...
Cheers, John.

We did actually buy a 2nd hand double swag, camped out in a relatives back yard for a night, Husband didn't like it as he could hardly move to even turn around...yeah it was cosy :D, not one of those with the hoops obviously, just a tiny upright pole at the feet and one at the head. We decided to sell it....probably would have suited usage in the tent too, but I think that was before we brought our touring tent anyway.

So yes I realize how bulky they are, obviously wouldn't roll pillows in them and our sleeping bags aren't particularly bulky ones (as much as I'd love to take a doona!). The self inflating mattress I'm talking about is one of those fat double ones which self inflates but has foam inside (4wd ones)....I've noticed skinnier versions in camping stores too. So I still reckon it would take up more room than a swag and I'm sure it weighs as much if not more than a swag!, I reckon the only way to roll it up to camping store size is to use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out! No way in hell I'm taking the vacuum camping...that's what I go camping to get away from lol.

The problem with having that mattress on the roof is that it would get dusty and wet ..yes I did suggest perhaps a cheaper option would be to get a canvas bag made up for it (or any decent bag) but I don't know he didn't seem keen on that idea for some reason.
Guess that's why most people just have a camper trailer! The Troopy we have is a 5 seater version, draws in the back, fridge, a few other bits of gear and it doesn't really leave enough room for the big mattress. When we went to Albany last weekend for 2 nights I think it was the first time we've camped without having to tow a trailer of some sort (since having the kids)! Must say those hiking mattresses are comfy enough on grassy caravan park ground...for me anyway, but I am the younger half :D
