I didn't find either hard to read but by user free I was referring to what is/isn't covered.
Correct me if I am wrong as I am just on my phone and going from memory but CIL excludes something along the lines of "Actions by the sea including high tides" so if you get stuck on the beach and the tide comes in and gets the camper then CIL won't cover you but Club 4x4 doesn't have that exclusion.
Also CIL had an exclusion about fires started from electrical faults which I would think would be one of the main causes of fire, so if you have a bad device or if a wire wears through over time and starts a fire then you aren't covered either. I don't recall reading this in the Club 4x4 pds.
Once again just going from memory and haven't compared side by side so feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
You are right, CIL doesnt cover actions by the sea and Club 4x4 doesnt have that exclusion, the exclusion club 4x4 have is that they dont cover trailer/caravan being used offroad in a way they were not designed to be used, which can be a pretty broad statement and in the case of the jayco campers (and other campers with similar warranties) would worry me, I know they can easily be taken places that the manufacturer advises warranty doesnt cover so if your jayco is damaged during a water crossing (which jayco states warranty excludes) then does that mean that club 4x4 also wont insure you?
My trailer is full off road, but can they claim that driving it in the ocean was not a use it was designed for? Another thought is that if a camper got swallowed by that sinkhole at inskip last year, would CIL cover that or would it be considered a movement of the sea.
CILs exclusion against faulty wiring is if the wiring did not meet the Standards Association Code for
Electrical Installation in Caravans.
Club 4x4 dont cover poor or faulty design, specifacation, materials, repairs or workmanship. The use or application of caravan parts or accessories which do not meet manufacturers specifications.
The other major difference is that CIL wont cover is loss or damage to your caravan or your annexe while
your caravan is being transported by road (excluding when your caravan is being towed), rail or sea, if you
have not selected the optional cover of “Transporting your caravan.”
Club 4x4 covers the camper during transport as long as its being transported legally.
