Current bid. $240000.

These types of cars are not a good long term investment IMO.
Once the cashed-up baby boomers are gone (and that's not all that far off), nobody will want them and the prices will taper right off accordingly.
Fun to own and drive, and OK if you have a crystal ball and know when to sell....

The trend is swinging to original good driver quality cars a fair bit too.

The HT Monaro Shannon's auctioned last year was a good example, $225,000 with a dent and a scrape included for the price.
That's then why mint ones are as dear as they are.

That's why we bought the car we did, couple of bumps on the front guards, but approx. 75% is still the original paint from1964 and its never been dicked with, except some knucklehead by-passed the original A/C control.

We have a replacement already and will be sorted shortly.

Nah, nowhere near cold yet, only cool.
I had a trouble shooting book arrive from the states on Wednesday and we're (me and the lecky) are getting there.
Being the first year of the Climate Control A/C, only 4 vents in the front.

The series 75 stretch had a separate back A/C unit.

^^^ I temper that with there just isnt the quantity of  factory built specials or even base models as survivors in good condition or original parts to restore them .. So when a realy good or execptional one comes up so does the collectability and price .

Bugger, I bet ya happy and sad about that.

I'll get more bang for my buck by having the 80 brought back up to scratch then I will having the Val sit in the shed. I will miss it. It really is a well looked after, reasonably original car. And a coupe to match. Everyone knows 2 doors are cooler than 4. Took it for a run to the beach yesterday for Aus. Day. Had 7 different blokes stop and chat about it whilst it was parked up. Got a few thumbs up and a some bird at Maccas screamed out her window that she "Loved my sexy car". Oh how we laughed. Anyway it's going to a good home and I've had some fun in it. Lot's more fun to be had in a FTE powered cruiser though. Bring it on.
Cheers, Mike.

The yellow bathurst HK I posted earlier is predicted to go for around 250K at next months Shannons auction.  Looks like its had a repaint, but the interior looks original.

The owner of a panel shop a panel beater mate worked at back in the 90's had an all original XW phase 2 HO. Complete with a nice whack in the rear quarter. Now you'd think owning a panel shop you'd fix it? Nup, would need a new quarter to repair and that would mean it's no longer 'original'. I never really understood his thinking back then, but at least he drove it a fair bit.
His brother had a wicked fast big block XA GT coupe.

At the moment they are Shane, but once the baby boomers (and possibly include those born a few years later) are gone, so will the demand.

The point is, numbers willing to pay the big bucks will fall....today's kids aren't interested in them.

Agree. Cashed up retirees are buying up what they either had or desired in their teens/20s, or maybe what dad drove. Probably always been that way, current 20yo won't desire a Torana, they'll be chasing something they are driving now.

Of course there are exceptions, but when only the exceptions are left there won't be the demand, and hence not the price.

Edit: we are also rapidly approaching when electric cars are more normal and self driving cars available. that will change the market as well. Maybe we'll see electric conversions to keep away from petrol prices, but they won't need to be original then either.

Sure, but will there be enough to maintain the prices??
Talking about a few years down the track, not today or tomorrow.

There is also a big difference between $10k for a tidy HQ and $250k for a collector special. I don't think the basics will change much. As the 'tidy HQ' become more rare will probably hold their value well. Less of them, but with less buyers too.

Correct, it was an online bid at $260,000 and when they started the actual auction, no further bids were received.

I watched it live to air, the whole thing was done pretty good, except for Laurel and Hardy doing some commentating.
One was bearable, the other was a complete nimrod talking crap.

The guy that bought the 67 Nova should have bought it in Nov 16 when it was for sale at $95,000.
He paid $105,000 under the hammer.

Not often, but occasionally you find a little history under rear seats of Yank cars. Build sheets, trim code specs, delivery receipts etc.
Pulled a rear seat from a '69 Chev today.  Almost 50 years of trim code, production line details etc stashed away out of sight, until today  ;D

Love old cars  :cup:
