Ta mate,

At around 10:30 Saturday morning I though "FUK" I've got no lifting do-dad.
Straight down to the chandlery and got 2 x 1 metre lengths of chain.

Got home, about 150mm too short on each one, so I bolted some other bits of short chain I had to the big bits and out she came.  ;D

I was going to make some lifting brackets, as I have some old balsa wood sheet here someplace. But what you have may work better.  :cup:

New rules are in now for importing old cars. All brake shoes, disc pads, clutches and Klinger type exhaust gaskets are to be removed prior to shipping or proven to not contain asbestos.

Cost of importing an old car just went up couple of $k ::)

So, I wonder if you had a letter signed by the previous owner stating facts to that effect, would cover that or not?

I can't see customs on this end pulling wheels to check if its been done or not.  ???

This is proving to be a VERY WORTHWHILE engine rebuild I reckon.

I managed to get a little more of it pulled down today......  :o

The timing chain has more slop than a $50.00 hooker.
I reckon its missing a dowel from the sprocket to camshaft too, but it appears its never had one... I'll have to look into that.



The plastic coated cam gear is shedding itself.
Would've been to long before we could play hopscotch over the remains of the teeth.



I reckon I'll be calling into see my mate F.S. Shane one day towards the end of next week..... if it ever stops raining that is....
Then we can stick a mic up my holes and see how much slop I have.

You know Kev, piece of mind your going to have to give that auto a go over now too ....
 A fresh 340+ HP hooked onto  a unit thats put in 50 + years of wear and tear and was used to a donk thats come down in power over that time .

That's a bit harsh Shane.

Down to the birthday suit now......







Next trip is to F.S. Shane and then the machine shop. (if only one of them wasn't moving premises this week-end)  ;D

No to the trans Edz, no sense fixing something I haven't broken ...yet.
I will change the front seal in the box, but its shifting fine etc and besides, the ol girl will probably never see a full blast anyway.
Shane and I reckon it was down to around 250hp and the barge still got along ok...so not much will change in the way I drive it.

I reckon the shape wouldn't help either.
It appears to create a venturi effect across the roof of the car, and cause high use of fuel, by comparison to without the camper.

Given that the sedan is an Edsel Ford, I dont think there would be that much that could make it worse than what it is .. From memory  it ranks close to number 1 in the All time worst car ever built category ..

I didn't say they couldn't afford the fuel, I just figured they couldn't travel as far because of the wind resistance.
