Not sure if this will lift across or not.

http://bestride.com/news/entertainment/if-you-remember-these-10-car-features-youre-old

Don't have to be that old to remember some of them... or I'm older than I think I am...

-Cup holders moulded into the Glove box: 1980's and 1990's Volvos still had those...
-Manual windows: I used to have a 1986 FJ73 Land Cruiser with vinyl seats... the only electrickery in that was lights and the radio...
-Quarter windows (vent windows): See above... my 4Runner though is a 1992, so missed the quarter windows that the 1989 and 1990's (and Hi Luxes of the same era) had
-Unique radio placement: A bit like unique fit radios, or the double DIN ones that actually gave you buttons that were a decent size...

I'm only 37...

1964 Cadillac Fleetwood, yes oh great Grasshopper..... 1964.

6 way power seats.
7 position tilt steering column
4 electric door windows.
4 electric vent windows.
Power boot release.
Power boot closer.
Power duel circuit brakes (Drums)
Automatic Transmission.
Climate Control Air conditioning.
Power Steering.
Cruise Control.
Twilight Sentinel headlights.
Self Dimming headlights.
Power Door Locks.

And you bastards wonder why I bought a Cadillac.  ::)
Uncle Jeepers likes a bit of bling and luxury.  8)

It is however, very slightly broken at the moment when a bit of piston broke away and hit the spark plug..... bugger... ;D

Never mind, motor out on Saturday and we'll sort it out.

Spotted two prime examples earlier this week.  Both outside a good shed. XA/B/C coupe and a sedan with GS markings. Both partially stripped and left to rot. If that's what they keep outside the shed, I'd love to see in it.

Cammo's best mades dad has a nice (well used to be nice) XB Coupe sittin there partly restored, but its been in that state for 25 years apparently. Kids and marriage and mortgage got in the way

Hey, how's this for a cool picture.  8)

Been dicking around today while it was raining and cleaned off the chassis rail with a wet cloth.  :o

The date the chassis was completed and ready to be married to the body. Its on upside down, hence the photo being arse up.

Bit of a close up of it. (Bloody clear to read too for a 53 year old car)

The AOS refers to the chassis builders. Its pretty interesting finding out some of this stuff.

And I thought it was AUS so the car knew where it would end up.

Love what these two poms are trying to achieve. Very skilled, funny as and highly entertaining.  Well worth a watch for those into classics or restoration

Not 100% sure, but I think I found the problem.

I think its shot the missing bit straight out the exhaust.  ??? The piston top looks remarkably good considering the size of the bit gone.

They're a friggin heavy ol lump of iron too.

Just leaves a friggin big hole there now. Good chance to give the engine bay a once over.

Friggin rained on and off during the removal too, just to make a fun job a little bit more challenging.

Doesn't even look like it's touched the bore. Any improvements happening whilst it's out?

Yeah, I think it missed everything. I need to run some kero into the ports to see if a valve is bent.... but looking ok so far.  8)

Mate, the engine is going back together stock unless is needs an overbore (highly likely) but that's it.
Because these things are a "little bit rare being a Fleetwood", I'm keeping it stock and even retaining the single exhaust.
(one will notice the hi-flow pipe crossover next to the cross member)

They produced 340HP when new, which actually gets the ol girl to shuffle along pretty good.
Even the engine bay spruce up will be done to look original rather than restored if you know what I mean.

I want it to look like a really tidy, 53 year old engine bay.

I've got all the colour codes for the engine, even the correct exhaust manifold colours.

I think i'm getting old........

Just been searching stuff on the 63/64 chapter I'm part of. (huge help and great website.... its like Myswag for Cadillac's)

Mine isn't the first to break in exactly the same spot and a lot of 'em at lower mileage than mine.

I don't feel quite so special any more.

Nothing wrong with the stock look. I'm a bit of a fan of it myself. I personally think a lot of cars are spoiled by overdone/underdone engine bays. don't get me wrong. There is a place for speccy stuff. I just like a nicely detailed motor hole. Neat and tidy.
Cheers, Mike.

Wonder if its something weird and unique to the design of the Caddy combustion chambers and plug placement,  like the piston kicking a fraction each time the plug fires the intake charge ??

Its just fatigue on the weakest portion of the piston on a 200,000 klm (124,000 miles) old engine

Bit like the ol red motor Holden's when the piston separates at the ring line and drops the top off the jam tin.

Detonation has done it.

The blown head gasket probably has a Shitload little bit to do with it ::)

I was pretty sure detonation was the problem, but I hadn't noticed yet, the blown head gasket.....oh dear...  :-[

In my defence, by the time I had the engine out Saturday, I was absolutely buggered.

I had already spoken to Shane about checking the curve on the dizzy long before the engine made it out, so I was pretty confident what caused it.

Bit disappointed though, that the little bit missing caused all my compression to leak out.
