Do you really like deep sea fishing so much as to put yourself through this?

Nice info... I hate spewing... even worse when kids do it, I usually join em just with the smell and sound... yes.. Im weak :(
I hate spewing too. Sometimes I think I shouldn't have had that last bourbon. I hate having a throw after drinking.

I usually pop a few quells about 4-6hrs before. Sleep on the way out (2hrs). I worked out to avoid coffee (or more specifically coffee with milk. milk & pilchards dont go together). Avoid to much booze the day before but when ya get out there hook in & enjoy the day out.
Who gives a $hit if ya crook, i find once i throw up i'm all good then & besides the rest of the crew have to have someone to take the pi$$ out of  >:D. The best thing is to keep fishing, nothin cures seasickness like fighting with some monster of the deep & if its a shark more the better, they really get ya juices flowing.

I might add that i tend to only get sick when its either glassed out or a 4m swell, go figure  ???
All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

Natures own make some I think they are a ginger based tablet but I don't like ginger either I would tell you exactly what they are called but they are in the car and it is hot outside.  I have used kwells as well not as often.  I unfortunately get car sick on winding roads not throwing up style but feeling very off and these have helped me.

Another one for Quels, does the job for me. Tried a ginger tablet last time as I left the Quels at home and could only find a supermarket were we were staying. I don't know what was worse continuously being sick for the day or the fact that I nearly throw up at the smell of ginger now....
Just one thing don't take too many Quels when your out deep - started to loose my eye sight out there and couldn't thread my own line cause I couldn't see the bloody loop on the hook.... Funny how you look at the instructions on the back of the packet afterwards.

A few tips on barking out the back,I've done k's of miles of ocean yacht racing and have seen some bad cases, one old yacht owner would always say, you're not sick until your on the oxygen.Had one guy take a quell when he got on the boat in Sydney and by the time we had sailed past Coogee beach he was hallucinating that bad he was about to step off the back of the yacht to go and lock his car back in sydney,he was sent below.another guy wore patches and made a comment how we'll they worked, only to become crook almost immediately after we had told him it had washed off about four hours ago.pressure point bands seem to work the best with no side affects,Tips,DON'T go below, try and stand and fish rather than sit, don't lay down, while standing, watch the horizon rather than the boat or the water in front of you,eat light foods, apples are good,,if none of these work go to a good book shop bye a good book, find a big tree to sit under and read your book

l have tried many things to overcome motion sickness . in the end l revert to 1 of the best things . Blackberry Jam .
This product should be taken 1 large table spoon full , 1 hour before stepping off the dock . ln many trials to goes down & returns the same flavour . Just don't put it on toast after it has returned . lt will not cure but you will have a better taste in the mouth at the end of the trip
So   , put your head between your knees &  " Burly Up   "                        ( bring up the days taking  )

Like denidoug I have done a few thousand miles ocean racing, albeit years ago, and agree with all his advice but could also add, stay cold, dont wear too much to get hot. I used to throw up every time I went to sea, it is a sh!t feeling but you get over it by day two or maybe day three

Our kids use to sleep after taking wells, so we changed to Travacalm and wrist bands.
Travacalm comes in different flavours/types so go to a chemist and check them out.
Both kids have current state and Australian records so that shows that they were able to spend hours out without throwing up.

Quells. $7 from the chemist. Chewable taste like sherbet. 2 before 2 when you are out there. Non drowsy. Don't bother with anything else O:-)
Cheers

The bands apply pressure on the wrist, should be able to get them from chemist ( works well for,the wife ) . I take travel calm 2 hrs before going out ,and then take at regular intervals while in the boat . The other idea which I haven't tried is to put a ear plug in one ear and leave the other open , it's supposed to confuse inner ear and prevent being crook , waiting till we are closer inshore to try this one incase it doesn't work. cheers.

Used to do a bit of decky work as a uni student and luckily never got sick but every second bloke that came on board had the magical cure (be it the bands, ginger etc) for sea sickness but from I saw not many of them worked.  Quells seemed to be the most effective for the bulk of people.

Kwells for me - phenergan has also done the trick but can knock you out.

If all fails and you want to get the crap out of your system that's making you queasy just think about about a tuna milkshake!

The worst part of sea sickness is though you feel like death is on you , your realise that you are not going to die . & it will just go on   ,   &   ,   on   , & on , Up  & down   Up & down       ,,,,, :'(

Many years ago 10 of us booked a deep sea fishing trip and we decided for everyone to bring food and we all share it between ourselves for brunch. Weather turned bad on the way out which meant 9 of us plus one of the deck crew threw up over and over and over.

But my Father, boat Captain and the 2nd decky had a huge feast on all the food everyone bought and Dad clean up with the fish due to the amount of burly in the water.

I’ve found once I’ve been sea sick and even after returning to shore I stay queasy with my head going up and down. The only thing that helps is going to bed that night which ‘resets’ by head/ears.

exactly!!! and you feel dead for days..

even worse if your the only one, have begun dry reaching  and everyone else is having a blast and catchin heaps so theres no chance of going back to shore early...

My eldest son (when he was younger) used to get carsick if in the car for more than 40 mins.  One day my wife came home from the chemist with this magical wrist band that would provide a cure instead of tablets. I said "what a load of BS" and it was it didn't work and we went back to tablets.
