N+1 has kicked in. My son has been getting out on the BMX we rebuilt at the local dirt jump track and it looks like fun. We've been watching dirt jump videos, one thing led to another and I'm researching 26" dirt jump bikes. I've found a Norco Ryde for a reasonable price, wife will kill me if I buy another bike. Decisions, decisions....

^ We have an Azonic DS1 sitting in the shed back in the UK... been through various incarnations over the last 18 years - last seen with slick tyres on it!

Other news...

Wife has decided she wants a new watch, and one that does fitness tracking for cycling. Has anyone got any suggestions? I run a Magellan Cyclo 100 on my bike, whilst she has a Cateye cordless one with cadence, but wants something that is a bit more high tech so she can race a few friends on Strava (I have no interest in that though). We also picked up a Polar HRM for peanuts that needed new batteries, but she doesn't like the chest band.

Been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 235 type watches, so GPS and HRM in one unit.

I now open the floor to comments or flaming...

N+1= happy dance and that's all that counts.  ;D How many pairs of shoes, dresses and the like, does your wife own?  :D When it comes to bikes parts and racing goes, there is no discussion on any part of it. It's my domain and I won't alter what I do. I get asked..... is that another bike?  :angel:

That's my thinking... I think she just wants a new watch and this is a good way to get one.

Her watch rule is just about N+1... working watches is about 0.5N...

That's an interesting option...

I've now gone down another rabbit hole, which I suspect will get me in trouble... The Garmin Oregon handheld GPS can pair with ANT+ sensors... Not as cheap as a watch (about 3x the amount) but it gets me a different solution...

I got a garmin 235 for my birthday a few months ago. Works pretty well, easy to use, battery lasts long enough. I've used it successfully for a 6.5hr ride and it didn't run flat on me. I was using an older Garmin on the bike, but started doing a bit of running this year and the watch is easier to deal with than carrying a phone.

Hey guys, I just arrived in Cairns on Saturday and took my bike out for a ride on the Smithfield trails. I think I need to work on my fitness! Some of those climbs! But had fun anyway.
Going to be here for a while, start my new job this morning, so I'll have plenty of time to ride the trails. Also keen to try out some downhill trails but not sure if my bike is up to it(Trek Fuel EX).

So took the misses to a bike shop today and we both walked out with bikes wife got a Liv Tempt and I picked up a Scott Genius 750 no pics yet as we haven't picked up the bikes, now just to choose how to cart them around with the kk tossing up between roof mounting on the car, swing away on the kk or mounting them a rack on the top of the camper.

Am I the only one who carries their bikes in the car, or is it because so many use utes rather than wagons?

This is one of the main dilemmas I have with replacing the 4Runner - drop the seats and I have a level floor all the way and I can easily load even my XL framed 29er in upright (only remove the saddle) and there's enough length in the boot to do that. Wife's bikes can go sideways across the car...

I regularly put the back seat of my Patrol down and carry bikes inside it, mostly because at 48 it's getting to be a bit of a risk to put them on the roof. With 33" tyres and a lift, it's a long way up! I have to put one foot on a rear tyre and one hand on the roof rack. The other hand takes the bike, then it's a one-handed lift as I also pull myself up, get my other foot on the tyre, then rotate and swing the bike and land it on the rack. My back doesn't like it...
