Dropped into Aldi about an hour ago not expecting there to be any bikes left. To my surprise there was a medium left in blue, and 4 larges, 2 x blue, 2 x red. I don't really need another bike, decisions decisions....

I was at my local store at opening time this morning and picked up a large in red. They only had red in the large and blue in the medium. Took it home and bolted it together with some extra grease in a couple of spots. Rides nice for what it is. Going to change the seat and put the bar ends from my 26er on it. It will do me. Going to get a mate to double check the adjustment on the derailleurs and brakes but other than that it's all good. Cheers, Mike.

Just did 10-12k's on the 29er. Rides nice enough. very comfortable standing up and pedalling. Feels heavy but I am that out of condition I imagine any bike would feel heavy. Definitely need a comfier saddle. Good spread of gears. Doesn't feels as agile as my old 26er but that could just be that I haven't ridden in ages. Only one magpie attack. What can I do to improve the rolling resistance of the bike? Bearings, tyres?
My boy can't wait to go riding with dad. He's just got to get rid of the cast on his arm first. It will be good for his fitness for the off season of BMX.

Better tyres, folding instead of wire bead, different tread, tubeless, lose some kegs

I'd start with a slicker tread.  I run a complete slick on my mountain bike when I commute on it, and it's the difference between getting to work trashed or not...  Quite a remarkable difference

planning some bike/dog packing...

step 1 - design in photoshop obviously...

step 2 - find used BoB Ibex trailer and start mods to take fat 26" rear wheel, upgrade rear shock and have Bike Bag Dude make up a padded lined "tub" for Tucker to rest in (when not trotting beside me)

Not my bike in the pic as I don't run derailleurs. This all to get me inspired to make it happen.

But the the overall design concept is there.
Modify the hitch "yoke" on the BoB to fit a fat bike 170mm spaced rear on the frame.
modify the rear of the trailer to accept a 150/15 dynamo front hub, 80mm tubeless rim and 5.05" tyre
custom rear rack for Tuckers water, food, leads and doggy first aid kit
custom flag (hey... everyone deserves their own flag right...)
nice padded area for him to rest in.

wonder if this should be in the home builds thread?

Wouldn't it be better to have the hitch/pin for the trailer, so that you don't need to worry about the drawer bar and rear wheel binding up, when turning a sharp right?

Got the day off work today so I'm off to Smithfield to watch some of the mtb action at the World Champs.
Got me a couple of cow bells, I'm all ready!

watched woman's and the mens events on SBS2 today, didn't even realise it was on till I stumbled across it whilst channel surfing. No shortage of stacks in the womens downhill today, reckon a few are missing bark off of them currently

Rode 64km of gravel today in the 'Gravel Grit' ride around the Watagans. All fire road stuff, but included one long rough descent which was pretty fast and fun. Bike had been making some creaking noises prior that I hadn't been able to locate, and assumed was suspension bearings. Noticed what looked like dirt on the front, wiped it away and it stayed. Turned out to be a crack in the head tube. At least I didn't find it after landing face first in the gravel after the forks separated from the frame.


New bike time! Pity I've just spent money on the shock, and new grips.

Looking from above...  the "hitch" is an A frame. It attaches on both sides of the rear wheel. The pivot is the tall vertical bit just in front of the main trailer body.

think of it as the reverse of a 4wd and trailer arrangement...

also... the A frame can rotate (pivot) up and down on special nuts on the end of the rear bicycle axle. So it's a like a McHitch (or any off-road trailer hitch for that matter) and can move in all directions while towing.

Dragged my old 04/05 at a guess stp2 out of the shed the other day (she has a couple of upgrades). Since losing weight I've wanted to get back into it. Threw some new brake pads, chain, grips, and rubber at her as well as a good clean and lube and she turned out alright! Can't justify buying something else right now, would eventually love a dually, but I'll see how much I get back into it on this old girl.

Finally brought the wife and I some half decent bikes we got her a Liv tempt and I got myself a Scott Genius both 2017 models so picked the, up for pretty decent prices now to start using them.

Nice, I bought the missus a Tempt 2, swapped out the brakes, changed the saddle, replaced the front tyre with a more trail oriented pattern and fitted some better flat pedals. She really likes it.

hi all,

as the boys get a bit older, i need to come up with a storage/rack solution for 4 bikes at home...

looking for ideas from those in a similar position...

do you hang?  floor rack?  what sort of rack? 

will most likely be storing hybrid style bikes (not road only bikes...)...

i don't have unlimited space in garage and shed, so something that is fairly compact, but keeps them off the ground or leaning up against the wall or camper would be great.

any thoughts, ideas or suggestions of what has worked for you and what hasn't would be appreciated...

I used a pallet to hold the bikes - the gaps were just big enough for mountain bike tyres, and the spacing was enough that it kept the bikes apart and the depth was enough to stabilise the bikes. I managed to store 5 bikes like that - my 3 XL framed bikes and wife's Small framed bikes. It wouldn't be too hard to get the bikes in and out if you could butt the wheels up to the wall; we had them side loading which wasn't great, but better than nothing.

The rack in the link has a moveable section that holds the wheel firm. The single units I bought previously don't have that, but they still hold the 20" bikes fine.

I used a bit of pool fencing leaned up against the wall. Admittedly I've gone over the top and it's now a two level rack capable of holding 12 bikes. Two sections of pool fence, one on top of the other, a steel frame and some bed frame boards.

Wheel them in rearwards, lean the wheel against a slot in the pool fence.

I tried that technique at our last house, but being tallish found I couldn't get them high enough to not keep banging my head when underneath. Even cut a hole in the ceiling and lifted them up between the trusses and still not high enough. Might be handy if you want to store the mower or similar underneath them though.

Yeh even with higher ceilings I'll hit my head so I'm putting it over the camper will be able to just lift the bikes onto the hard floor then lift the bike without it being a head bum hazard
