I recently received my new flashlight - a Fenix TK45 (760 lumens!). There are a number of reviews on candlepowerforums about this model. I really like the fact that it has quite a good spill. One person likened the output to that of a car headlight!

It uses 8 AA cells. I've purchased eneloop rechargables and use a Maha C9000 charger as recommended on both whirlpool and candlepowerforums. The charger also has a 12v adapter :)

We also have a couple of Led Lenser P7's (cheap off ebay) and some cheap CREE based headlamps for the kids.

The TK45 is seriously bright. On the downside, it doesn't just slip into a pocket like the P7 as it is much larger. On the upside, the TK45 can stand upright like a candle (unlike the P7's) and won't gradually dim (unlike the P7) because it is regulated. The three head design in interesting. This also aids in the flashlight not rolling off a table.

The power coming out of the CREE LED is incredible.

Just as a suggestion for backup torches, I found in Bunnings of all places, an ARLEC WATCHMAN CREE 2xAA alumunium case torch. $18. Quality is very high, 270 LUMENS !!!!

Yep, 270 LUMENS !!!!!

At $18, and aluminium casing, a couple "fell" in to my basket. Not going to argue about LED Lenser they are awesome, but for $18 for a light saber, I don't mind if I lose one or two.   :laugh:

They had a bigger one too, but same CREE chip and same 270 watts. But if you like the comfort of carrying a torch that doubles as a club, that might be a better option.

And for general use, we use the Energizer 3 LED headlamps. They have a nice plastic lens cover that gives a really nice circular light combining all 3 LEDS. You can often get them from BCF for $19.

But seriously, you start a topic on torches amongst blokes and this could go on forever!!!! Where's the camp fire and my beer and lets do some serious reviewing and recommendations.   :cheers:

Great light that Fenix TK45! I have just ordered a Fenix TK41 :)  I also plan to run it off Eneloops. ;)

I also just received a couple of Fenix E01's and 4Sevens Quark Tacticals all for family members, these are also excellent lights!

Can't wait for the Fenix TK70 to be released... i might have to justify one... but it's big  >:D





Looks like it'll outshine the Olight SR90

Yep, the TK41 is next on the list. I just wanted something a bit "floody" first. The TK41 has an excellent throw.

Which one's a bit more floody? I wouldn't mind a floody one too, spots are kinda useful as gadgets and spotlights, but flood is more practical IMO. In any case, being a bloke, I need one of everything. :D

The TK45 is more floody than the TK41. See my recent TK45 purchase a bit earlier in this thread for the details with lots of links for beam shots  :cheers:

I got mine from goinggear.com. I ordered my awesome Klarus ST20 from them. They have some really good video reviews on there. In the TK41 video, Marshall from goinggear.com explains that even though the the 41 is a thrower it still has pretty good spill. There's only one way to find out!

Just pocked up a little TTI cree based 3xAAA torch for $9 and a small AA led work light for $13 at a Total  Tools sale this weekend. The Cree torch doesn't look like much, but it throws an incredible beam, has 3 modes and is spottable. For $9 I'm going back to buy a few more, if I can trust myself to set foot in there with their sale on. It just occurred to me that their battery powered Led work lamp is just about perfect for using around the camp, as it's cheap, slim, light, robust, and has a strong magnet and foldable hook on the back. It will be interesting to see how reliable they are, as I have gone through quite a few of those $10 autobarn AAA led torches. The switches become unreliable.

Just wondering, WTF do you use one of those big torches for and how do you carry it? What is 500m away that you need to know about? Every know and then i solo hike at night and all i use is a Petzl Tikka xp, and a prinston tec pulsar as a back up.

It can shine a beam of light up to four mile away, which would be good for sending signals around town, but there a slight draw back, it uses fifty four batteries, which is going to make this fairly heavy! And pretty expensive to replace when they run out.

This is a hugely powerful light, which reaches a maximum power threshold of thirty eighty million candle power, which is a lot of candles.
