In this Thread you can give a bit of curry about who's is better or why the other is Pooh.
This is all in fun and not to be taken seriously This way maybe the Hi-jacking of threads will ease.

Double Lockers, Coil springs, 2 live axles and a Nissan badge! :cup: Need I say more!!! >:D

Oh but I have been tryin to behave, but its really hard >:D

I LOVE NISSANS MORE THAN I LOVE Ladas hehehehehehehe ;D ;D
So I guess you rate Lada's pretty high then????......hehehehe.......Toyota is Japanese for Toorak Tractor and dosen't belong in the bush with the hard core live axle Patrols who blaze the way for all those Toy 4wd's......Bwahahahaha >:D(insert evil laugh) >:D
Toyota, Nissan banta is long live yet rather boring. How about Camper Trailers rock and Caravans (yes, Jayco) are for pussies......hehehehe ;D

You guessed wrong Teabag "Lada's make a great fire starter" ;D ;D and I love my IFS front end it drives like a Limo and in a 4wd situation it not real crash hot but ,add some lockers and you have a very capable weapon with the luxury of a Limo ;D ;D
And as far as Toorak Tractors go have a good look at 95% of the 4wd's in the mines. What do they drive ? MIGHTY TOYOTAS.....And why? Cause there as tough as rusty nails and will stand up to demon drivers like me >:D.
Love to get into the Jayco v's ?? war but this may get dangerous for me :'(

As for the mines, yes they buy Yota's but like all large company's they love to waste $$$. Now look at the contractor's who work at the mines are in Patrols and Navara's!
Look at Jas off this forum, sold a 79series ute because he need more than 2 seats and a work ute. And the best value for $$$ a D22 STR Navara ute... 8)

I wonder how long the mines will keep buying the toymota landcrabs now that the base "tough" model is not available with airbags................bad move miss toyota

Teabag.... You keep spruiking on about how "boring" the Nissan/Toyota banter is yet you are always one of the first to chuck your 2c in... Always quick to defend your purchase error choice. ;D
For those of you who don't know, Teabag's "Nissan" is actually all Toyota chassis and running gear with a Patrol body on top. He told me he thought the Patrol was prettier (he likes pretty things) but didn't want the unreliability, crap ride or inferior build quality of a Nissan. :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

If you have to defend what you drive, then you must be unsure of your purchase.

Hey Scol can I come and play in your fridge?? :cup: :cup:
Yes they are great ads.

Seen my fair share of bouncing boobs, but the second one was good. :cup:
I wonder how many calls to the Nissan helpline there are from owners wanting to know where the button to change the car into a giant spider is? >:D

I sent Nissan an email, just waiting on a reply... I couldn't find it in the Pathfinder's manual. ;D

Toyota don't need to make ads like those because Toyota don't need to advertise. Everyone already knows that they are the best.

-
Yeah who needs ADS
Not me as i didn't even look at those links, maybe I should check them out.
Living dangerously again, but who cares.
We had a good time in Rocky checkin out the new Patrol,

Decided just to compair it with the new Toyo
Nothing to darn compair thou.
Front is to small for three of us (this in patrol),
Can't see over bonnet to good in Pratol, at least i can see the bullbar in the Toyo.
How can u compair a 4cyl to a 8 cyl (toyo again)
and the colour range is lackin four colours against 6 or 8 (or what ever toyo has)
You can't say we didn't check them out.

Dunno where to start with why mines better than yours ;D so I'll just tell you what mine doesn't do..
Mine doesn't blow 5th gear.
It doesn't suck kg's of dust in through the back doors.
It doesn't rattle till the rear hinges crack.
The spare wheel carrier doesn't crack either.
The wheel studs don't break off and make me roll over and over.
The turbo doesn't fall to bits.
and the engine doesn't suddenly melt down..
The other thing it doesn't do nearly as badly either is depreciate.

I've heard of the lazy LSD's (I have one) and the front diff (but only in the 105's) but never the 5th gear or cross member (unless you are talking about the 100 series IFS fragility after a lift)
Anyhoo, when there are dozens of folks forking out tens of thousands of dollars each to rebuild hand grenade 3.0ltr motors and even more limping around in 4th cause the idler shaft spline no longer exists (my mate is currently and another just had to do the rebuild), then we can have a debate
By the way, I forgot one.
My cooling system doesn't fly so close to the wind that it can't handle a short summertime hill climb with a load on the back 8)

was watching a bit on the Australian Safari yesterday, was very good to watch.
However;
1st = Holden Rodeo running injected V8
2nd = Humble GU Patrol 4.8
3rd - 5th = Rodeos and Tritons
6th = Humble GQ Patrol (not sure what it was running)
7th = New Landcrab Ute V8 turbo diesel
etc,etc,etc
So big flash new landcrab well and truly beaten by a GU Patrol, AND by an over 20 yr old GQ
GO THE TROLS :)
-
Who cares?
Not me
I still NOT LIKE TROLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its alright for ppl taller but for shorter ppl they aren't any good.
I can't even see the bullbar on the Trols.
The other thing is there is not room in the front of the Trol Ute for
three of us.
So get real >:D >:D >:D >:D
-
LOL, I'll bet that GQ was bog standard too ;D
Now back to the real world

Without getting into what's best for a tick, this comment surprises me, i thought the Patrol single cab was pretty good for room compared too the 78 series cruiser, the cruiser was marginally better than the Defender for room i thought.
Baz.
-
I'm sorry to say Redback for me it wasn't.
The new toyo ute sit up higher and i can see the whole bullbar as in the trol ute i could only see bits of it and had to sit forward to see anything.
Even across the seat width doesnt' seem to be as wide as the toyo ute (new one).
We have check both out, as the other week end we went to rocky and had to time to look at the Trol ute.
Hubby, 15 yr old and the guy from the nissan place where in the trol and there was no room for the three of them. The saleman couldn't get first gear, he tried takin off in third, not once but about three times. We've taken the toyo ute for a drive and didnt' have that prob. >:D

Yep, Patrols must be Shit, that's why you see so many in the comp scene. Great value for money, strong drive train, a diff that won't crumble at the sight of engaging 4wd, IFS in the front (must be a soft roader). So I guest your right Joff, all these comp guy's have got it sooooooo wrong...... ;D
PS: I don't have a 3ltr......The ever reliable 4.2TDi......
Patrol all the way..... :cup:

At least with a landcruiser this little duckie can fit in with three of us and I can see where i am goin and not much look at the bonnet.

Some years ago I did quite a bit of rallying. My favourite car in those days was the venerable Holden (Isuzu) Gemini. Great little car for rallying; an engine that would rev till the cows came home, you would shift gears when you couldn’t stand the noise anymore. A gearbox that would only give out in the syncro’s after many hard miles. A diff that in all the years I was involved with Gemini’s I never saw blow. A rear end that, driven aggressively, would hang on to almost any road and a tough front end that never ceased to amaze me.
Why were, and still are if my mail is correct, these little rust buckets so good? Well there were a few reasons but not one of them had anything to do with the cars intended vocation. It wasn’t a particularly good commuter because it was plagued with lecky trouble. It had lousy resale because it was prone to cancer. Out of the box, it handled pretty ordinarily understeering like a HQ. The window winders were too short and broke often, they too leaked dust like the proverbial sieve. Sans seam welding and bracing, they would eventually cave in in the front to the point where they had so much camber the front tyres would chew out in 5,000 km. The front lower ball joints would need to be welded in almost from factory because they pop out. Oh! And the steering column wasn’t square in the car (that was a bit of engineering genius).
So why were they used, well I’ll tell you. They were great value for money, strong drive train, a diff that won't crumble at the sight of a big rev’n’drop around a rocky corner. And there was one other BIG reason; there were tonnes of em lying around in WRECKING YARDS.
Sound familiar?? 8)
Comp and real life are worlds apart. BTW I didn’t see one Comp Trol crabbing it’s way up the Oondy track recently ;D
P.S yes I am bored tonight >:D

Yep, and you see millions of Gemini's at the Cape etc? The relevance?????....Bwahahaha
PS: Jason, I see you have seen the light and now drive a Nissan. Has that something to do with car safety? Buy a trillion dollar vehicle and they seem prepared to compromise your safety, go figure.....I guess it's a Toyota thing......hehehehe

Please remember this is a BullShit threat to keep it out of individual members threads.
We all have our alliance to vehicle / camper trailer manufactures and so be it.
Instead of telling us why the others are so bad, why don't you tell us why your's is so good..... 8)

but i have nothing to say good about mine ;D
-
Come on now we have a hill named after you Navara! That has to be good... ;D
-
Yeah ok ok i will admit for the money i paid for it its not to bad. And after 12 months i have finally gotten over feeling sick everytime i get behind the wheel

Mate, feeling sick at how silly you have been all these years.....It's O.K, you don't have to admit it here but you know, that I know the truth........hehehehe......... ;D

At least with a landcruiser this little duckie can fit in with three of us and I can see where i am goin and not much look at the bonnet.
And I can fit seven and still see over the dash.....Maybe it isn't Nissans fault that your a duck?....hehehe.......Though if you feel comfortable paying twice as much for half the vehicle then so be it..... ;D ;D ;D
Paying twice the price now thats bullShit, we have priced both vehicle (new models),
the Nissan was far to squashy, the driver couldn't even get it in first gear with 15 yr old in the middle and hiim and hubby aren't that big. (He was a NISSAN salesman too). The price of them was about $2000 cheaper, the Nissan was 4cyl (yeah cheaper rego but piss weak to the v8).
So give me the toyota anyday.
With the Toyo we are gettin the head light protectors, bonnent protectors, dash mat, thrown in and thats more than Nissan offered us.
>:D >:D >:D

One has to wonder why one would buy a Ute to accommodate 3 adults??? I'm sure there is a reason there somewhere?
I guess you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink......hehehe......Good luck with your new purchase.....

Please remember this is a Bull**** threat to keep it out of individual members threads.
We all have our alliance to vehicle / camper trailer manufactures and so be it.
Instead of telling us why the others are so bad, why don't you tell us why your's is so good..... 8)
For the record, I have no allegiance to any vehicle manufacturer, or camper manufacturer for that matter. None whatsoever.

All is good......
Question,
Do Toyota's come with a hand brake that works?
PS: Wife doesn't count......hehehehe

'Teabag - One has to wonder why one would buy a Ute to accommodate 3 adults??'
who said anything about 3 adults, the lad may be 15 but hes not a big lad other than in height where he is taller than hubby and I.
I sure hope to goodness that hes not with us when hes left school, (by then he will be able to buy his own vehicle).
'Joff - BTW, checked your wheel nuts lately? '
You really want me to comment about NUTS, maybe not or i will be in TROUBLE again >:D

And I guess your now going to tell me that all 4 vehicles the LSD worked in the rear after 30 000km........ ???
-
And I guess your now going to tell me that all 4 vehicles the LSD worked in the rear after 30 000km........ ???
Nope ;D I didn't own any one of em with less than 160,000 on the clock. A Toyota is not something you need to own till the warrantee runs out then throw it at a dealer for another set of keys. I do have a Pajero that will go when the warrantee gets close though.
Actually, only one of em, my current 80, even had an LSD. While it is weak it still works a bit.. ish.. at 300k. And I can honestly say, hand on heart, that, with the exception of that weak LSD and a rear water squirter, everything still works just how it was supposed to.
There are no windows that stop halfway, no none standard wires or hoses bypassing broken bits, no need to hit this or shake that to make something work. It ain’t because of easy treatment or quick repair either. In the several years I have had it I have done nothing, but nothing has played up.
Even the rear water squirter works, it is just that it makes the front one squirt too. Think it might just be in the stalk. ;D
I said before, I’m not manufacturer biased and I’m not. Toyota has built some **** boxes - anyone for an Avalon? Get ya free blue rinse and bowls hat when you pick it up! But I am 80 series cruiser biased. There has never been, before or since, a better all round vehicle. Some one tried to tell me it was late competition for the GQ - get ya hand off it. It was early competition for the GU and still makes the GU look like a rattley farm tractor.

LETS ALL BE HONEST the only things that should come in 3 Litres are Milk & OJ ;D ;D

LETS ALL BE HONEST the only things that should come in 3 Litres are Milk & OJ ;D ;D
Ah, the old size matters hey? Though with size comes a few trade offs, such as fuel economy which is important now wrt fuel prices. I have been reliably informed the new 4.5 V8 cruiser is a rather thirstly bugger?
PS: Not sure what engine you have in the 80 but if it is a 1HZ then it is the same size as mine.......I do agree wrt the 3ltr, better suited in a sewing machine.......hehehehe

Watch what u say Teabag or someone might tell the forum of a ceretain person that has a very well kitted out 4wd but never uses it for what it was built for because he doesn`t want to get it dirty .......LOL

Nice looking Jeep.....I think they are a good size 4x4 for only a couple of people...not convinced about their long term reliability.......but then I drive a Hyundai Terracan CRDI so I shouldn't talk eh ??
Fairly similar to the Jeep CRDI......2.9 ltr, 125Kw, 340Nm, but sees off 4.2 and 3 ltr Patrols.... ;D ;D ;D
4x4 of choice..( cash donation please ) Rangie Sport V8 T/D....awesome !!
More affordable 4x4...maybe a 4 door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Diesel ( diesel not available yet ! )

Very elementry Mr Watson !!!!!!!( apart from mine having a power box ) It has the same or more power and torque and weighs less....which equals more go !!
The new common rail 3 ltr has a bit more torque than mine ( although as mentioned mine has got a power box....claimed figures...145Kw.....380 - 400 Nm...???? )
More than happy to step up to the mark.. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now I have heard some drivel......Did you get a little bump on the head yesterday... :-*..O.K, let's settle this. You name the time/date for a weekend at Yalwal (more challenging tracks) and we will play. This will be the true test agains the very well made Hyundia ::). I will not use the locker and we will see how far you get, easy to talk it up......... :-* :-*

Ahhh........c'mon ......you won't get me saying my Terra is as good as a Patrol off road !!!
I'm talking performance wise....engine performance !! Never mentioned off road, but been offroad enough to know the only thing stopping most 4x4's is the ability ( or lack of ) of the driver to punish the 4x4 !!
But if we ever get away camping together, I'm sure we can talk ( dribble ) about this over a few beers.. ;D ;D ;D

Yes, towing capacity of the Terracan is.....wait for it......2500kg producing 120kw and 345nm torque where the Patrol 4.2TDi is 3500kg producing 114kw and 360nm at a lower rpm......Torque down low is where it is at......Simple mathmatics...........Patrol is :cup:

;D ;D ;D not quite..........torque is good but you need power as well....I would think those figures have the two engines pretty well line ball.........until you lined up mine with an extra few ponies and more torque.. ;D ;D and less weight !!! Patrol...no.2 ;D ;D
Plus, how do they work out the towing capacities of vehicles when two 4x4's have similar weights and nearly identical power and torque figures yet have a ton difference..
Or try this.......in Germany, the ball weights are 75kg's and you can't tow on Sundays ?????

I thought we where talking stock vehicles......Are now if we want to take into account what can be done to the 4.2 with some aftermarket work then it would blow the piss out of the little rice burner......So Patrol is still :cup:....Bwahahahaha
There are many factors that decide towing capacity from size of vehicle, engine specification, size of brakes etc......I would be interested to see how long the Terracan will last towing 2 ton day in day out.......Would be very interesting on it's longjevity..................
-
The little rice burners might surprise you (and me ).. Have talked to somebody from Hyundai tech services and the Terra diesels have been in Europe for years and they have almost nil failure rates..
As for towing 2 ton ?? whats gonna go wrong ?? engine failure ?? 5 year warranty = new engine !!
Out of warranty ?? Tell me a manufacturer that has a bullet proof engine anymore ??
Can't count the 4.2 as the boat anchor is no longer made ;D ;D
And stock standard it will still see off Patrols ( petrols excluded ) ;D ;D and aftermarket....whatever you can do to a Patrol you can probably do to a Terracan..
-

yep sure do, and at this stage I would not swap it for anything else...............unless money was no option then I would like to drop a 200 series body and engine onto a GU Chassis and drivetrain, but thats not likely so I will stick to old faithful ;D

I love my Prado ... but I'm always happy to head bush with a Pootrol .....

Do i really have to read all the comments, nar decided i am to lazy to so will just comment on Chippys comment.
Love it Chippy.
We sold our prado (which i did love but wasn't suitable for what we wanted to do),
Still waitin for our Landcruiser Ute.

G'day Teabag
That's why I chucked a winch on my tractor.
The only thing worse than being rescued by a Pootrol is being rescued by a Pajero {think Spanish} or TerrorCan ;D ;D ;D

Playdoughs, Jerrycans......Pfffft >:D
Get a real truck...One that will out last your warranty.
Yes I have a Patrol, yes it's a 4.2l diesel, and it's never given me any grief, even considering the flogging it gets off road, and it's never snapped a CV. Eat that Tojo drivers (except the ones that drive 60 series 8))

Yeh, the old GU is pretty good off road......but you have to get it to the bush......and thats why most people drive around in these modern type 4x4's !!!!!! You can sit back, relax, and not worry about your fillings falling out of your teeth and not have to turn the stereo up full blast to drown out the road noise ..... :4x4: ;D ;D

I have to be careful here as I have one foot in the Nissan camp and one in the Toyota camp, but I think that then allows me to call all the others as wanta be 4x4. ;D
I am also a believer in the theory that you can’t buy them you have to build them, :4x4: and if it doesn’t have 8 cylinders you are missing a few. :D
-
Yes I agree jc, 8 pots are better......but what about a turbo diesel six, you know something like "truckzillas" donk8).
I reckon that would be the goods, That way you get cheaper rego, and can still plunge into those deep rivers and bog holes...after you bought your Safari Snorkel!!! (presuming you meant petrol V8)!
Amen, must be built not bought. Everything that could be built by me is "showcased" on my truck. But I will draw the line at fuel tanks, just too dicey.....yes I've thought about it, and the more I think, the more I think they should be bought. Just my 2c.
Dano.

Just a thought, >:D
Why are ther so many Toyota wreckers/specialist compaired to Nissan ones.
Yep,,,,,,,,,, they just dont break as much. :D

ohhh shucks your making me blush 8) .... I must say though it is good when your out on the tracks and some one is bragging about how many RWKW'S they get with their v8 conversion and you can laugh and tell them you get that from a diesel running bigger rubber to boot.
The part about being built not bought ...well if i could have a truck this good off the showroom floor and saved myself all the headaches i would gladly buy it .

Yes, thought about maybe getting one of these imported for a work rig, then came to my senses....as in how much bloody diesel would they suck down!
But as far as a factory rig goes they are the most capable ever.
Twin air lockers 8)
44's standard 8)
extremely low first gear in low range 8)
Turbo diesel, snorkel height about 2.3m 8)

Hi everyone,
Just for a bit of fun, I thought I'd add this in.........
I belong to a 4wd club that is 35 years old.
In the history of the club, not one driver has ever gone from nissan to toyota, but plenty have gone from toyota to nissan.
We do have one member who is bise+ual. He drives a patrol and a hilux. Bought the patrol after having too much trouble trying to blue slip the modified hilux.
To throw fuel on the fire, I have just bought a jayco (arriving soon) and hope to spur on the debate in that department....
He >:DHe >:DHe >:D

Ok guys,
This is just a reminder that all banter belongs here and here only. It wont be tolerated in other threads as it HiJacks the topic and two many people get too serious about it and the topic just goes south from there.
So if you wish to banter in another thread / topic then you will get a warning. If it continues then the post will be deleted. And if you continue to pest other threads with banter then you will end up with a 30 day break from the forum.
I'm disappointed it has come to this, I know it just starts off as harmless but it is just happening too much in other threads / topics.
Also remember that all post need to comply to forum policy. No abuse will be tolerated.
