Has anyone used the above tent.

I have one for when we don't take the camper.  They are an excellent tent, just a tad bulky, very quick and easy to setup and with all the options now available can be a quick overnighter or added to become a huge family tent.

We have a RV5 for the kids and trasnport it on top of the camper trailer.  Works well.  Only issue is that the tent when folded up is quite long.

We have had an RV5 for just over twelve months after deciding our Southern Cross was just too heavy.  Although it folds up long we have found swinging it up onto the roof rack easy enough.  We were originally concerned about how it would go in the wind, but after being hammered at Lake Eyre were very impressed at how it stood up (granted we had every rope tied off that we could).  We spent the extra cash and bought a foxwing awning as well as the walls for the foxwing and have found we can set up well for wet weather if needed with a large area to sit around (we had no water inside the tent with ankle deep water flowing underneath at Christmas).

Hi,
   very happy with our RV3, so far only used as extra sleeping space with extra bodies that would make the camper too crowded.
It is a 30second tent, then allow a few minutes to peg it down. But you could have kids inside and out of the rain in 30 seconds.
Yes it is a big bundle folded up, too long for a bed in the camper, but it will be fine on a roof rack.
Plenty of room for 2 to sleep in the RV3, three would be a snug fit.
very impressed with the quality.

Yep I had a RV3 and it was the bees knees..It would go up quicker than any camper..and I mean any camper trailer on the market.
When they say 30 seconds..they are being generous...one of the best tents on the market although its not a compact tent.
You need a roof rack or a trailer to carry it in.

Have you got pics of your trailer setup it looks the goods, I assume that's you kitchen and storage? Must be a cinch to setup?

Hi Bert,

As others have covered, they're long when packed up so you'll need a roof rack (or somewhere large) to transport it.  Apart from that if you want a quick set up tent then they're great.  I've found in comparison to other dome tents, I can easily set up or pack the tent up single handed where as the dome style you'll generally need assistance.  They're great if you're always on the move and only staying a few days then moving on to the next destination.  There's some other nice features such as the rear flap and also front awning have a semi ridged insert so one person can easily roll these up quickly by themselves; ropes roll into build in pockets when not needed.

We've outgrown out RV4 so have just ordered a CT but plan to keep the Oztent to put the kids in when they're a little older.

Hi,
   before rolling up the front flap, tilt the tent forward over your self, then it is dead easy to sweep the floor, then lift the tent and get out from under it, put it back down and roll the front flap up along the ground.
Makes it even easier.

My brother in law has an RV3 bloody bute to set up and is 8 foot wide so I take it if I need the extra room it clips in the end of my annexe just perfectly even to the point we are considering having a zipper fitted so it can zip on cheaper than a kids room option.

I use to slip mine inside my 7'x4' trailer..and would fit with an inch or so spare (thats 25 to 50 mm for the young ones)

the RV 2 - 5 are 2m long folded and the bag is generous so they do fit in again after the initial unpack from the factory.   Their website has sizes http://au.oztent.com/products/ViewProduct.asp?ProductID=1

If you've got a camping / outdoor show in your area soon, you'll get a better deal than the retailers.

We bought the RV5 for our Simpson crossing last year and loved it considering we set up and packed almost everyday for 2 weeks. My only issue is the same problem we had with the soft floor camper, bags of clothes to store and for four people.

The end panels are well worth the extra as it gives you an extra room that you can cook in, get changed and so on.

We have had our RV4 for around 4 or 5 years now and love it when we don't take the camper.
Have all different types of side panels, front panels and even the screen room... fantastic bit of kit and a real relationship saver as no arguing about which pole goes where.
Would buy another one in a heartbeat if anything went wrong with ours

I would recommend getting the fly as it really does help to keep the heat off it in summer and snug in winter, no more than an extra 5 mins to put it on

We wanted something for when the camper stayed at home and got a roof top tent.We used it once and sold it, just not suited to us.I am about to purchase a RV5 which I was thinking about getting before we got the RTT.

We have had our RV3 for a number of years also and still use it.
prior to aquiring the campertrailer, we lived in it for 3 months as we made our way across to cape york and down the east coast and back west.. we have never had one problem in all of the time we have had it.

Be aware that OzTent have a new product, the Jet Tent.
Hard to describe, but it's an external frame tent they say is "high speed no drag".
There are five models to sleep from 3 (smallest) up to 8.
One of its features is a very big front awning, about 2m by 2m on the small model.
Set-up is described as "high speed". They seem to be 2.2m high, without that slope to the rear that has always put me off an OzTent.
Further, they pack down much smaller: the smallest model is said to pack down to 1.1m x 0.3m (d) x 0.3m (h), doing away with the neeed for roof-rack mounting.
Real canvas, it seems, with weights ranging from 20kg to 32.6kg.
They were quick to send out a brochure and DVD (tho I suspect the DVD may be the OzTent . . . I have not yet watched it.

I reckon these tents are a good quick design.

I've considered them and I keep coming up against the folded up size which is 2m long or so. So it needs significant realestate to house it.

I know for sure the covers don't seem to last, I reckon I've made over 50 covers that people have requested, some canvas, some PVC.

I'm a big fan of the single pole touring tent.

Covers can be a weak point on them but ours is still going strong after 4 or 5 years - guess it is how you look after it that helps.
Also worth nothing that the Zip will let water through, the need a slightly better design to stop this ingress as the cover in general is quite weather proof.

Tent material is great and we have used ours through some torrential downpours and electrical storms and stayed nice and dry in the tent and enclosed awning area.

So if ours gives out I know who to see about a new cover then

Is it just me or does  that Jet Tent look a bit like the BlackWolf Turbo?

In regards to touring tents we also decided that a single pole style was most suitable to our needs. Have only had it up for watering in to date though, but certainly quicker to set up than the hiking tents, and more room, but heavier and takes up more room.
