Lockable drawer slides
« on: May 13, 2020, 08:33:11 AM »
Just looking for opinions on sellers/brands of lockable drawer slides?

I am looking for a 500mm lockable slide.

Weight rating would be around the 50 to 60kg mark, but that isn’t set in stone...

Looking to attach them to a plywood drawer.

I have been looking at the Dunn and Watson slides, but am wondering if anyone has another brand/seller that they have been happy with...

Lockable as in with a catch??

If so, I bought mine from Ovesco for my fridge slide.

All the best.

i think...

the lockable latch/lever is at the front of the slide, close to where the font of the draw would be... ?

i'll check out Ovesco, thanks...

Or do you mean using a padlock or similar? I think almost all the slides lock in the “in” position and have a small lever to Release.

i don't really need to actually lock the draw from opening with a key...

i just wanted to get the slides that have the large lever at the front that you have to move to open the draw...

Roger dodger. My drawers don't have locking slides so the bolt keeps them shut. It has lasted longer than the locking drawer slides I have in the camper, they don't love big weight knocking them around, and the patio bolt keeps all the shock load off the slides.

Industrial Rubber Supplies for those in Queensland & Western Australia, they also have an excellent selection of hinges, locks & other hardware besides the draw slides.

OK, so my next issue is now that i have the drawer slides, what screw works best??

i have used some small button head screws that i thought would be perfect, but they don't work...

slide keeps hitting the screw heads...

anyone have any experience with screws suitable with these drawer slides?

I think you need countersunk screws. Mine were installed into plywood with wood screws (not but and bolts) and they held up fine. Into metal use nuts and bolts obviously

I’m not sure countersunk will work... I tried one and the head of the screw sits above the hole in the slide... it sticks out more than the button head screw...

Mine are going into plywood as well...

Have you got a pic of your install?

Little 6g countersunk screws or 8g wafer heads is what I used if I remember correctly.

long story...

as it turns out, the Dunn & Watson ones i originally got were not great...

so, being a bit pissed off by that, i just went to bunnings and bought some of their non-locking goliath slides and they had screws included.

they were a small countersunk, so probably a 6g, just like was suggested...

really disappointed in the D&W slides, if i'm honest.  when i had a closer look, the tracks that hold the ballbearings down were bent and out of alignment.

even after trying to fix, they just wouldn't run right.  they also seemed to be warped and just wouldn't run smoothly, no matter what i did.

so, when i got the goliath ones, i was thinking that it was my technique to mount the draw slides was inept (which was entirely possible), but they worked without an issue.

trying to get a refund now through D&W, but they won't have a bar of it.  essentially saying that they don't come out of the factory like that.

i am suspecting i may have got a refurbished model.  they were just wrapped in a bag, with some glad wrap and cardboard pieces at each end.

if anyone is thinking about using the goliath slides from bunnings, they were great for me.  screws included and a lifetime warranty.  also, goliath is a sub of UES international...

Glad you got a result - looks good.
I used goliath slides to make up my Joolca HWS slide in the camper a year back - so far so good.

Just been advised by Dallas Watson (from Dunn & Watson) that I will receive a refund.

A fair outcome and one that will not stop me from buying their products again.
