Lightforce DL230 HTX XDriving Lights
« on: March 08, 2017, 09:11:19 AM »
Hi All,

Looking at driving lights for the new toy. Interested to know any thoughts/comments on the new Lightforce DL230 HTX driving light that uses LED and HID technology. Also interested to know what other brands members would recommend.

Cheers
Brett

I'd say you don't need to spend $1400 to get good spotties.

YMMV

Ps. they sell cheaper at the pub. ;)

I actually spoke to a guy from ARB last week about these lights as I noticed them on his 4WD and I asked how they compared to the ARB LED lights.

He said the Lightforce are $12 more expensive each than the ARB light and he said while he previously used the ARB LED’s and said they are a fantastic light, he admited these Lightforce are even better as they give 1.7km distance from the HID’s and the ring of LED’s give heaps light to the sides.

They are so bright the come with a 3 way switch.
1 – Off
2 – LED’s only
3 – LED plus HID

Reason for the 3 way switch is once you see another vehicle in the distance at night, you have to turn off the HID part of the light.

While I would love a set, just don’t do enough night driving to justify the cost.

I agree. I am sure they are a great light at the price they sell for they would want to be. You can get lights that are more than enough for a LOT less. 1.7 klms wow if only I could see that far ;)

Have a look at the Aussie made FyrLyt brand. they do different set ups and get good reviews.
they will be my next set. A mate has them and he over researches everything prior to purchase and loves them.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/112146105954 same as I have (but mine werent 555w) and bright as fark. Shit on the Hella 4000's with HID kits I had before. might update to the 555's at that price :D

Anyway being Lightforce, they will be top shelf. Always been a fan of their service.

but if you buy em, weld them to the bar.. the quip about selling cheap at the pub is true.

+1 for fyrlyts.

I have the dimmer 150watt version and they are more than great, can't imagine the light the nemesis would put out!

It will interesting to know your thoughts. I have been reading that some people who have installed the Nemesis 9000 are getting interference through their radio when the lights are being used due to the box that converts the power from 12v to 24v. Unfortunately I can't find any first hand experience, it is all information from someone's mothers, brothers, uncles, sister.....

I have had XGT 70 watt. XGT 50 watt XGT 35watt,  XGT halogen,  an some of the smaller older modles.
I now have 4 HXT.
These replaced my XGT 70watts.
I think they are a fantastic light.. The ability to swap between different light combos works great. Too much reflection from signs just drop the spot light out. Your still left with a very good broad spread light.
The distance on just the spot light is no where near as much punch  as the XGT 70watts ( which I would rate as 1 of the best long distance lights) but still very affective.
On a 4wd I don't think they'd come much better. 1 light with 2 great qualities.
Would I buy them again, Yes I would.

Joe

If someone else was paying, I'd have a set of HTX's in a heart beat.
Previously had Lightforce XGT 240's on my Cruiser for about 10 years of touring, never had an issue on any corrugated roads  etc ever, so would happily have Lightforce again. Only reason I am not currently running that brand now is, I won some other brand HID spotties in a raffle that now adorn my Cruiser.

We've recently been looking at lights to stock, and have decided on Stedi X-Styles...

They're a good price, and outperform the above mentioned brands, and are made in more or less the same factory.

At around $550 a set, you're also more guaranteed that no-one is going to decide they like them more than you do...

Performance wise, they outperform Lightforce, Fyrlyt, ARB (and their copies from 4WD Supercentre), etc - over 30,000 lumens per light...

Watts don't mean anything in LED terms, as they're rated in lumen output...

My advice would be to have a look at the Stedi product... Everyone we've sold a set to is stoked, including guys who have replaced JW Speaker, Monster Lights, ARB

Has anyone else has an issue with the LED lights and colour contrast of the outside, an example, driving at night to Wedge Is and came round a corner to find 2 kangaroos but i didnt see them till they were basically next to the car. This isnt the first time, i just find with the grey kangaraoos the light from light bars it isnt easy to pick them out. Im now looking at going back to an old halogen style light.
