I was seriously considering the Fyrlyts and spoke with the guy at the 4wd shop I've used for years about installing them.
He pointed out that Fyrlyts are brilliant (pun unintended) for distance but you really need a bar for spread to cover all bases. (Reputable guy, not having me on)
The cost of Fyrlyts and a quality bar were coming in close to the Lightforce pair.
The Lightforces are Australian made too - that combined with less real estate up front on the Triton convinced me.

I went with the new wiring loom too. Two switches, one for the LEDs and one for the HIDs, both activated by high beam.

Doesn't that logic contradict itself here.  The lightforce may be made up of leds but a long way short of a bar.  They work the same way as a round led spot light made up of numerous leds.  It is all to do with the reflectors, not some much the shape of a light, bar, round or rectangle.  Sounds like sales speak to get you to buy what he has on the floor, not what may be a different option.

The reflector doesn't come into it as the leds are positioned outside of the reflector for the HIDs - essentially it's a circular bar  ???
Personally, I don't think I've made the wrong choice.

Yep, what Peterdeg said.

The Lightforce DL230 HTXs are an awesome set of lights. Admittedly, for what they cost, they should be.
I put them on my Triton as part of the overall build, and factored them into the budget. I don't regret it.

I have a mate who has a couple of 10 inch Lightforce light bars and a pair of decent IPF HID spotties, and the DL230s outperform both by a large margin.

The LEDs have a wide spread, and basically turn night into day out to around 300m in front of the vehicle and well outside your peripheral vision.
The HIDs give useful light to around 1.7km, which makes night driving on remote rural roads a pleasure.

If you can bring yourself to pay the price, I can highly recommend them.

Each individual led has it's own reflector, hence you have the option of spot or spread leds.  I am not knocking your choice, and I think the Lightforce is a great combo light.  Just commenting on the sales pitch re a lightbar for spread is a bit misleading from the sales person.  Lightbar's are advertised as spot or spread combination.

I seemed to make the wrong choice with every driving light I buy!

This time I went 240XGT hids , around the mountains and the short roads they are a bit ordinary but in those long straight roads you have in Vic or western Nsw boy are they a great light!  I've added a light bar and happy to stay that way but these combos sound a great solution

Don't believe so. Huge range of stuff readily available (I was actually holding a Fyrlyt when talking with him) and he's been around for years.

Having compared various spottie and light bar set ups side by side at night in an open paddock earlier this year, I'd have HTX's in a heart beat if the cost is not an issue. HTX's easily out performed the other combos we tested, and IMO looked better on the vehicle as a all in one set up

I run 4 HXT. On my truck. As a combo light fantastic. The spread is awesome, just as  spotties, but changing over from 4 XGT 70's i was hoping for a little bit more.
But again as a combo light or just spread bee's knee's.
Would be a fantastic light on a 4by...

what's it matter if he can afford them?...if he's after "the best" of what ever and money isn't an issue, then does it matter if he uses it / them once a year?.

Not that often. But I did just miss a roo the other night, as I go down the list of stuff to get I’m at the . Spotties. I like the new Narva 215 thatvare branded TJM. Basically cause it got a bit of yellow on the front which mactchrs the winch cable 😀

My personal thoughts, are that unless you're doing over 150km/h, you only need lights that project about 300m, and some flood pattern is imperative.

It's the roo on the side of the road 30-50 metres away that jumps in front of the car, not the one a km down the road...
