Vandalising in Aberfeldy Area
« on: October 04, 2016, 09:38:41 PM »
On Saturday 1st October (Grand Final Day), some, what could only be described as un Australian morons, thought it would be a good idea to rip out part of a World War 2 monument on Donnellys Creek Track not far from Aberfeldy. This monument is known as 'Smoko Point' This site was a resting point for soldiers during their training where they marched along local roads and tracks and often camped at O'Tooles Flat during the late 1930's and early 1940's. The interpretive s...ign that can be seen concreted into the ground has been ripped out and removed which is going to cost almost $1000 to replace which does not include the time involved, all put in by volunteers. None of these signs or monuments are funded in any way and all work is done by volunteers who donate both time and money.

How anyone can damage a WW2 soldiers memorial, the very people who fought for our freedoms is beyond even thinking about.

There are several cameras in the area that are being collected by DELWP and Rawson Police that will show, if not the people, at least the vehicle registrations of those responsible. Lets hope that these people are caught and dealt with by the authorities before this is shared across all 4WD forums and so on.

Scum like this shouldn't be able to call themselves Australian.

If anyone knows who is responsible, get them to hand themselves in or email / contact us through this post. In other cases, it has been better if they hand themselves in before the Police come knocking.

(Around the same time, other damage was also caused in the same area, the Toombon signs were rammed and destroyed along with some other areas........all with cameras luckily)

The attached pictures show some of the volunteers installing the sign and monument and what was written on the interpretive sign.

Lets all help stop these idiots. They destroy our bush and our heritage for everyone.

Can everyone please share this and post to 4WD forums and so on please....thanks

A message from Rudi

It was quite the weekend for morons destroying things over that way. I travelled between Thompson dam and Mansfield and back. Some of the things I noticed was convoys of idiots chewing up all the grassed areas in camping grounds just for the hell of it. Several camp grounds between Woods Point and kevington locked up with signs closed due to vandalism. A late model car that had run off the road and been left just before Thompson dam which on return the next day was sitting further back off the shoulder with damage that wasn't previously there. It appeared to have been rammed into the drivers side doors. So sickening to see so much damage by hoons.

Also noticed Coopers Creek now has gates installed to lock up the camp grounds and the first one was locked out to the public when I went through on Sunday. This is the future.  >:(

Got an email from the Huts Association to the club over the last few days looking for volunteers to help rebuild Collins Hut which has been destroyed again... One of our members was there 2 weeks ago and his take on th condition of it was 'don't bother'. With 2wd access and spitting distance of Dargo, it is an easy target.

I put it to our club but the club declined, as we have rebuilt it twice in the past, only to have it destroyed within a week the first time, and the second time it wasn't much more... And currently we are doing a lot of work with Rudi and his Aberfeldy gig...

Groups of young dead Shits go there and more often than not just smash **** out of these places. No idea why, and what pleasure they get.. but I can pick the kind of dead Shit that does it.. flanked by some real winner chicks trying to impress them...

with consequences!

& that's the problem right there - even if they got caught & prosecuted, what would be the consequences? They "might" get a fine ($1000 ?), maybe community service - lose your Saturday for a couple of months (if they even bother going to it in the first place) & that would be about it  >:(

Even then, they'd walk out of court & that week-end they be back up bush with their mates & smash the hut up again just to prove that they're better than anyone else & don't give a s@#$.

I don't know if anything would serve as a deterrent to these little mongrels (sorry to all the dogs)?

Maybe make them camp on site (on Leave Without Pay from their work, or with their dole suspended), in the ruined hut, until they've finished rebuilding it themselves - that would be great right now, with the weather you're having down there!  >:D

Collins' Hut has been misused for decades, bongs etc left in it, rubbish all over the place.

Personally, I think it outlived its life decades ago due to the scumbags it attracted.

The scumbags, I'll put in for a pair of Malaysian budgie smugglers and a one way ticket over there
for ea. of them.

Aus. has got to soft in a PC touchy feely sort of way.

the only issue is they will move to the next hut and do the same.

Agree Bird, no excuse for this sort of ABYSMAL BEHAVIOUR EVER. !

Haven't been near the next hut upstream on the river recently, last time there it was OK but you never know
what some of the f/wits will get up to.
