On Saturday 1st October (Grand Final Day), some, what could only be described as un Australian morons, thought it would be a good idea to rip out part of a World War 2 monument on Donnellys Creek Track not far from Aberfeldy. This monument is known as 'Smoko Point' This site was a resting point for soldiers during their training where they marched along local roads and tracks and often camped at O'Tooles Flat during the late 1930's and early 1940's. The interpretive s...ign that can be seen concreted into the ground has been ripped out and removed which is going to cost almost $1000 to replace which does not include the time involved, all put in by volunteers. None of these signs or monuments are funded in any way and all work is done by volunteers who donate both time and money.
How anyone can damage a WW2 soldiers memorial, the very people who fought for our freedoms is beyond even thinking about.
There are several cameras in the area that are being collected by DELWP and Rawson Police that will show, if not the people, at least the vehicle registrations of those responsible. Lets hope that these people are caught and dealt with by the authorities before this is shared across all 4WD forums and so on.
Scum like this shouldn't be able to call themselves Australian.
If anyone knows who is responsible, get them to hand themselves in or email / contact us through this post. In other cases, it has been better if they hand themselves in before the Police come knocking.
(Around the same time, other damage was also caused in the same area, the Toombon signs were rammed and destroyed along with some other areas........all with cameras luckily)
The attached pictures show some of the volunteers installing the sign and monument and what was written on the interpretive sign.
Lets all help stop these idiots. They destroy our bush and our heritage for everyone.
Can everyone please share this and post to 4WD forums and so on please....thanks
