G'day All.
Starting a post of the moment we like to forget off road.
This one was of my 80 series cruiser at Nolan's Brook after she had a hydraulic lock-up.
We got it out (water halfway up in the Cruiser) and then to Bamaga for a $3500 trip back to Cairns on the ship.
Turned out that when the owners before me fitted the snorkel, they did the hose clamp up to tight and it caused a crack at the bottom of the air box where the hose spigot fits. looks fine from the inside and you can't see it until you remove the snorkel and air box.
Last crossing of our trip too and the crossing before was higher water but a solid ground so we had momentum to get us through. Nolan's was sand and slow, with the vacuum pressure of a diesel under revs, once the water came up in the engine bay, good night for the Cruiser.
Turned out ok in the long run, Insurance wrote it off and I bought in back, cut her into a dual cab and re-built the engine and the whole vehicle (2 Con rods total were bent and she had a lot of water through her). She is now one very expensive Cruiser (re-doing the interior now).
I wont do that again, that's for sure.
