general question about helping mates

Here is the situation.
My best Mate wants to build a cage, battery box and rack (for a roof top tent) on the back of his tray back Patrol.
He has neither the tools, materials nor the know how.
I have the tools and most of the materials and know how and am more than happy to volunteer my time to  build it at my place.
I want to get started at 8:00 am
He doesnt want to do anything before 10:00 am
My questions is, since its my place, tools, materials, knowledge and time shouldnt he be at my place to start when I want to start?
I can guarentee if I was the one getting help I would be where I was told to be, when I was told to be there.
Or am I expecting to much?

If you were doing me a favour I'd expect to work to your schedule, within reason. Has he got something on at that time? Kids sport etc?

i would work to your schedule as much as i could
but wouldn't blame you if you went on a smoko break from say 10 am till 12 pm, don't forget the do not disturb sign.

I have this same drama with some mates. Best to run to your timetable or you will have the dirts the whole time. Explain your situation to him. Don't be afraid to pull out to avoid conflict.

Considering where you live I would want to start as early as possible, and take a break through the hot part of the day, and then resume later in the afternoon.

Starting at 10am just sounds stupid.  Tell him you are on double time (ie, twice as many beers) if you start that late.

I agree with all of the above. The one doing the work sets the timetable, especially at mates rates.

By the way, where do you live as I could do with a bit of help, and I turn up on time? ;D ;D

My 65yo neighbors are having a horrid time with drugos on the far side of them, they asked if I could help them build a fence as $$$ tight. I layed out the time sheduale, the exact things they needed to get and when we were going to do it. they complied with it all no questions asked and they got a new fence in a day ...all finished... and limited stuffing around for me. neighbour said they will 100% work around my sheduale and make sure to be avail when I had time.  this to me shows a level of respect for the person helping you .

In your case it would seem your building the whole thing anyway and sounds like your assistant might be better off making scones with the ladies after morning tea ;D ;D ;D

You make the rules not him.. infact I would make it 7am just to see if he is actually committed to it or not ...some people these days.

If it was me I would just say to him: On this day we will work from 8am to say Midday. After then I have stuff to. Stick to YOUR schedule, along with the others if someone wants my complete help like this. Otherwise get stuffed.
