If your caravan or camper went down in this ‘sink hole’ you would hope you have good insurance. But reading the policy of CIL insurance it states they will not cover for, ‘loss of or damage to your caravan or your annexe caused by actions or movements of the sea (including storm surge) or tidal wave.’ Interesting??? Kevin
Will be interesting to see how the insurers 'roll' on this.
Storm surges and tidal waves are, to some extent, avoidable by choosing to depart during the lead up to such extreme weather events.
By contrast, not only was the so-called 'sink hole' not evident in advance, but not self evidently an action or movement of the "sea". I listened to a marine engineering expert on the ABC this morning who explained that the cause of such events is likely related to the degree of saturatiuon of the sand and that, perhaps it could have been a different type of event, such as a land 'slump'.
If these are arguablew, for the limited claims involved, CIL and which ever other insureres are involved would get relatively cheap PR if they paid out. Hundreds of vehicles washed away in a tidal wave would be a completely different storey!
