How to crap in the bush when camping.
« on: July 17, 2015, 07:39:43 AM »
Hello peoples,

I came across this Video on my facebook page, if everyone did this when camping there would not be so many brown and white butterflies flying about in the bush.

Not a bad video at all; people are feral when it comes to keeping our bush clean. It's really not that hard.

I must agree, but if and when you ever get a chance to travel up to the tip of Cape York along any of the tracks, you will see first hand how bad this is.  Every tree within walking distance form any camp spot have unburied turds sitting on the ground, nearly every tree and bush has used toilet paper hanging off branches.

People wonder why grazing properties and camping areas are locking people out, it is a problem, and maybe some people need to be educated.

No wonder WA has made it mandatory for Portaloos when camping if there are no facilities.

I don't have a chemical toilet, and I (and my kids) know how to do what he just showed. We have a pack in the car at all times, has paper, matches and hand sanitiser. Shovel lives in the car too. If there is a toilet around we'll use that.

Needs to do a video on when to crap. As an example, I walked into the tent yesterday and there was a feathered scavenger in there. It was trying to get out as I was trying to get in. I went mighty close let me tell ya...

Carrying a full portaloo in the back of my wagon for 5 days across the desert or crap in a hole? I know which I'd rather do

Sorry, think I missed the point here, where do you find a dump point along the Gunbarrel highway for example, especially if you were taking your time to travel it. Don't think I would like to have a full porta potti sitting in the back of my car for a couple of weeks.
It really depends where you are travelling through, I think there is still a very handy need for the good old shovel.

Granted there's the odd ocasion but it should be the exception not the norm

i reckon his hole should be dug deeper myself, but i like the fact he's made the effort to have a go at the grubs out there that can't do the right thing  8)
I'm happy to use either a chemical toilet or a shovel, both work just as good as each other, just depends on where we are or where camped as to which one we use.

Not trying to be argumentative or a protagonist, & yes i agree with the sentiment expressed & would have no problem complying with the request,..........

however what about the millions & i mean millions of wild animals, feral dogs, camels, horses, kangaroos etc etc that roam the great outback, dont see them carrying around a shovel...... to bury their crap

Before you jump on my throat, i can appreciate the watercourse & paper issue, but wouldnt a turd in the outback with little or no humidity & exposed to the dry desert sun turn to a crunchy rock apple inside 3 days & then dust.

And before i get lambasted over human consumption/disease/waste vs animal waste....what difference does it make if its buried  ???

I do however like his presentation skills... straight to the point & pulls no punches... my kinda bloke  ;D

Hi,
The herbivore faeces are not as gross as the carnivore or omnivore faeces.
Bury it.

Fair point moggy but heavily populated camping areas or we'll worn tracks would be revolting to say the least if everyone just took a dump where the please....plus this is australia land of the flies.

I too would rather dig a hole and set up the Jimmys Thunderbox. But with an Electric flush toilet in Camper with Wife and Daughter, it's good for middle of the night calling.

I don't see what is hard about burying it, I know what some see hard about it they don't want to get a blister from using a shovel
