A video is a great idea, but like so many things unfortunately those who really need to watch it probably won't.

heavily populated camping areas or we'll worn tracks

But this dosnt apply to well populated camping areas [like sheepyard or knockwood]
or to well worn tracks,[like GRR or Birdsville track etc].
We are talking about camping / crapping in the bush.

In todays society of chemical toilets I don't know why people still have to Shit in the scrub?

I have a real problem with #$%&ing in a bucket, even if there are chemicals in it.  I also have a problem with people emptying them in bins or worse along the side of the road rather than at dump points.  Yes that does happen.

Give me a shovel any day.
Do not PM me for technical advice - start a thread.

Up till now we have used both the portaloo and the shovel methods.

When using the shovel, we throw half a cap of petrol / metho etc on the goods and burn all the paper then bury what's left in the nice deep hole, WELL AWAY from watercourses, tracks, campsites etc.

When the portaloo needs emptying and there are no dump points, I simply dig a extra deep hole (again away from everywhere) and empty the contents nice and slow, which allows the water to be absorbed, then bury it. This can be done because we only use the Bio friendly treatment (which works really well and is designed to enhance composting systems) NOT the stinky pink and blue chemicals that will probably kill anything. Problem solved.

In the future, I am going to get a composting toilet like the one that Kimberly Kampers are promoting on their website.

I don’t have a problem with people digging a hole to do their business as long as that hole is at least the depth of the shovel head and they backfill everything including the paper.  My beef is then they do it on top of the ground and try and cover it with a handful of dirt or sand. So apart from the dangers of someone else standing on it, it looks visually disgusting.

Cheers

well said by the video maker....

we have purchased a port-a-loo specifically to make sure we can go places that require you to be self-contained. But really it's not that hard to dig a hole when required... sad fact that people don't... just like those who leave rubbish behind...

Hi,
When the knees won't do the Asian Squat, the shovel makes a good support to get upright without getting right amongst it.

Incidently, we had a bunch of European back packers camp near us on an open gibber area.
The girls had not gone far for their morning pee, and left paper on the ground near their wet spots.
SHMBO issued each of them with a zip lock plastic bag to go and collect their papers and pocket it till it could be burnt in the last of the evening fire.
They took the lesson well. What seems so obvious to us was just not considered  by them. It hadn't even occured to them that some one else would walk there.

Cheers

I was thinking through the video he was going to drop his strides every time he adjusted his non-existing belted duds.

But more importantly I walk at least 100m into bush before dropping management off at the pool, also nothing worse than someone walking in on you.
Need to get the backside into gear and get out camping

I normally dig a 800mm-1m hole for the dump, can use the hole numerous times (covering each load after use). Comes in handy with 3 kids...

I do the same.....IF I can get a hole that deep.......some ground just isn't soft enough to get any deeper than the shovel head.

if you are going to make a video on the topic, at least dig a decent hole, I reckon 400 is a minimum. But I guess it's hard to dig that deep when your horse is so high.
