Bali Nine Rant
« on: May 04, 2015, 06:50:55 PM »
Sorry All,
Need to get this off my chest!!!!

Is anyone else sick of hearing about the Bali 9, a group of drug dealers who are only sorry they got caught!!! How much time and taxpayers money has been spent on this political farce?

Think of what actual good may have been achieved if the money wasted on these criminals was spent on cancer research, child illnesses etc. These are true victims through no fault of their own, and are certainly worthy causes!

I particularly like the way a religion is now having scholarships in the two ring leaders names - what sort of a message does this send? Will they also have scholarships in the name of priests convicted of atrocities against children?

Rant over, from ex-cop thank you!

Ha ha. I was just ranting to my wife about the disgraceful press conference the AFP had about why they stuffed it up and then spend 45 min spinning bull to cover their ass's.

They lost the chance of getting the Intel once they got back to Australia and hence the actual scum bag crime syndicate gets away with it.

The indons did nothing wrong. They enforced their law.  The blame rests with the AFP Boss who made the decision to have them killed.  And he is the one spinning the BS today.

My small rant.

I'd like to see a petition stating that we as Aussies do not support the governments stance nor scholarships in their name. AFAIK they died by their own hands and lives may well of been saved as an upshot...

Sorry Dazzler, totally disagree, the blame rests with these two unfortunate souls for the POOR choices they made. I am very comfortable with the role the AFP has played in this tragedy. I wonder how many busts, sexual assaults and overdoses been avoided due to this poison not entering our nation.

As for this scholarship business, sends a very poor social message indeed.

I would not be signing any petition as suggested above.
I agree totally with Dazzler.
The fact that they got caught and it stopped the drugs arriving in Aust ,does not mean that any user was saved from the drugs as the drug users would have got their drugs from another source the same as we will get milk from another store when our local runs out.
I also have no problem if the religion has some scholarship in the condemned criminal's name, their choice.
but as both religion and politics are not something that should be debated on a camping forum I shall leave it there

My youngest, a student at an ACU uni, just enlightened me to the fact the the proposed [ now dropped ] scholarships were to be to Indonesian applicants only.
Work that one out..

And now we have a new resident, a widow, supporting herself how? after being picked up at the airport in a Commonwealth car, complete with chauffeur.

I presume the sale of any paintings / books will be seen as the proceeds of crime?

A populist rant, but consider what happened to these blokes vs the Bali bombers.

One lot may have caused a death, while the others committed mass murder. From 6 separate bombings, only 3 were executed, and over 100 others convicted have since been released.

The Indonesian media hailed those to be executed as 'heroes', and they were treated as martyrs when their bodies were returned to their homelands. There were even riots and protests when they were executed.

Disco Teddy, I  was responding to the claim that because the drugs got stopped at bali then some junkie couldn't inject themselves, The junkie user would always get their gear regardless of this stopped supply.
I am not saying that the drugs couriers should have been given a clear passage but rather like Dazzler said that by stopping the couriers in their tracks at an Aust destination would have achieved far more for the Aust drug crime fight. As all the Indo's would have done was charged and convicted them without any further investigation, not stopping the next shipment from happening.

i see two issues with how it went down. Firstly the issue lies in leaving it 10 years before executing them. If you are going to leave it that long after the crime has been committed then a fair assessment needs to take place on whether they were successfully rehabilitated or not.
Secondly i dont believe in how they rate drug crimes worse than rapists, pedophiles and murderers.

Yep..thats the problem I have with the whole debacle..Not the fact that they executed a couple of drug smugglers but the fact that terrorists were let off ...Verrry Verry dodgy judicial system and a country that is so rife with corruption ..the exact reason why I will never set foot in the DUMP...

I don't see how stopping them in Australia would have achieved more Intel. The threat and act of death by firing squad failed to elicit this info, we would have flogged them with a feather.
As far as blaming the AFP for the smugglers death, well only two people made that decision and they are currently ina box.

I'm with Bird, pics or it didn't happen.

Different countries have different penalties for drug importing. The facts were they went to a country that has the death penalty if convicted of drug smuggling. You can say third world countries, tough laws etc but at the end of the day they new the laws and got caught and paid the price.

In time this will all be be forgotten but maybe what happened will make the next person / persons have second thoughts when entering that country carrying drugs. But I don't think so. Remember It's their country and that's their laws whether it's right in our eyes or not. Don't carry drugs and you won't have a problem.

Nothing sums up the ridiculous suggestion of a scholarship for two convicted drug smugglers better than this analogy.

Remember Andrew Barlow and 'the other dude'. The only reason why I remember Andrew Barlow is he lived on the street behind our house where I grew up. The media are having a field day because they can sell subscriptions. I wont even remember these two Bali 9 names in a short amount of time.

The AFP use a computer system that is incredibly sophisticated at developing linkages which is where the Intel comes from.

The Bali bombers were caught using this system (PROMIS).

The AFP new 8 of the 9 involved. Every detail about them. They were Australians with Australian passports. They knew they were going to bring back heroin the only question was when.

When would be revealed when they hit customs and their alert goes off.  The drugs were never going to get into the Australian system.

Seriously, there is no operational reason to give them over to another country regardless of whether the death penalty was on the table.

The worst case scenario would have been the nine locked up here. Remember Scott rush phone would have been "off" from the beginning so every linkage to him is known and the web widens. These links are critical.

The Bali bombers were identified through one mobile number linked to one of the bombers and the spider web widens.

What p'd me off today was Phelan saying that couriers don't give up Intel. That's crap. They may not give evidence but they sure as hell talk off the record.

The AFP got nothing from this.
 Australia got nothing from this.

BTW - I have no issue with them being executed if that is the law in that country. We just got nothing from it.

Australia got 10 years without having to pay to house 9 drug dealers.
