Hey Hairs, Check this site out. It may answer some of your questions, even though it is not for a 30 year period.

Thanks,
There is alot of information in that.

which tyre... ?

5 Nitto Grappler G2's for $1027 (including wheel alignment) or 5 Falken Wildpeaks for $1224 (including wheel alignment)...

Nitto's are normally $253, but Bob Jane have a 25% off sale, and the Falken's are $229...

NO.  The advertiser was delivered to me. Its my decision whether or not I look at the advertising. I get the paper for free. The advertiser pays for the paper space. Makes absolutely no difference to me if every paper was thrown in the bin...not so for the paying advertiser who hopes someone sees his ad and buys from him.

Nitto.s have been around for decades here in Oz. Mate has the grapplers on his toyota and has well over 70,000 on them.  I,ve got General Grabber but only about 10,000klms.  Dont know much about the Falkens....I dare say if someone had 70,000klms on their Falkens and were happy then there is another story.  Have you gone onto product reviews about the 2 makes and the tyres you had in mind?

yea, i've tried to do as much reading as i could...

both the Nitto's and Falken's are good value, compared to other brands that i looked at (pirelli, hankook)...

the Falken's seem to have good reviews... haven't read too much about the Nitto's...

but happy to hear opinions...

My opinion (not that it's worth a lot) is that if your planning to travel remote, pick the one that is most common.

I used to have Cooper ST's. I had no issue with the tyres themselves, but found myself needing tyres in Katherine once. Went to the only Coopers agent in town and the price was $500 each and I'd have to wait 3 days for them to come up from Adelaide. Looked around the car park and every car in town appeared to have desert duelers. Asked about them, $250 each and he had a shipping container full.

So now when I need tyres, I just pick what ever is most common so I have a good chance of being able to get a matching replacement out bush, never anything exotic.

Just my 2c.

"every car in town appeared to have desert duelers"

Must be  a NT thing . I called into the a tyre shop on the way into Alice once ( Beaurepaires from memory) to get a plugged tyre properly fixed, and they had a heap of those Desert Duellers there as well  - just the old basic pattern that has been around for 30 years. Got talking to him about them and he said that’s about all the locals, tour buses etc use.

Totally agree. I spent 20 years in the NT and without a doubt Desert Duellers were the most common. Local tyre bloke, who was a fishing buddy, also said that they were his biggest seller. I tried Bridgestone but they were too soft for the rocky roads (697,s)...back to desert duellers.

Do you want LT or P rating? At that price I'd guess they are P rated.

P rating is fine for my usage case, I think...
