What I don't understand is why it is all over the news. Yes, I guess it is news, but there has to be some train of thought that if there's no advertisement of it, it would lose some of it's shine. I also understand that it would be all over social media in a flash. I just hope all the hostages will be fine.

Agreed, the amount of media coverage on the telly and rolling coverage on nine msn and the like just play into these peoples hands and give them the exposure they want.

If they just had a complete media " blackout " I wonder if it would still be dragging out?

Exactly what we have been saying.  If the media made a decision not to give any air to this it would be all over now, one way or the other.  But that would never happen, the media love this type of thing, this is what they live for.  Go and watch the movie Nightcrawler.    Kevin

I think all the replies so far have been well considered and reasonable.

No one has gone over the top, we don't know the facts yet.

Unlike many other social media and media outlets.

Just goes to show that those on here are in the upper ten percentile of IQ.

Ok, we have the point that you think this is tracking along without issue, yes that is fine but we have had 3 complaints about this tread already. You may have noticed nothing has been deleted yet because it is our view things are currently fine but walking a very fine line. Terry, as a number have pointed out on this thread, much of the media 'get off' on hyping events such as this.
Similarly, others like to be 'experts' on police tactics / if and in what circumstances the military would become involved, etc.
IMO both contribute more 'heat' than 'light'.

He is doing his job. I would be pretty disappointed if the PM didn't make a comment and appearance to reassure the people of Australia. We get the message you don't like the PM as your previous post about was edited by the mods.

Thoughts and prayers are with both hostages and operators on scene.

History says that this may not end "well" but we also need to ensure that, regardless of the outcome, any investigation doesn't fall into the witch hunt category.

And lastly, while some may think a FMJ is the best remedy, I think it's important to realise that the are others on the board who believe that mediation and negotiating are the only methods that should be considered. We all have our personal points of view, let's just make sure that we are all being considerate of our mates view point as well.

Let's all take the stance that we want the hostages out safely.

Actually my post was edited due to me calling him an inappropriate name...sorry for that but it was all pretty tounge in check.
He just annoys the bejesus out of me when he repeats himself at least twice a sentence and is condescending and patronizing between that.sure he's got a job to do but if he dosn't like criticism or people having a bit of fun at his idiosyncrasies he's in the wrong business.
