Please be mindful on your holidays.
« on: December 06, 2014, 10:42:55 PM »
Taken from a drivers Face Book page.

This photo was taken recently at the Yelgun rest area on the North Coast of NSW. I have shared the photo from other truck pages. The parking bays you can see are reserved for the use of Livestock and Refrigerated heavy vehicles only. There are many signs stating this.
This rest area also has a spot set aside for caravans and campers, which was obviously full this night.
Heavy vehicles are required by law to follow strict fatigue guidelines. The fines for breaching these regulations are huge and the safety risks even more so.
The inconsiderate and selfish behaviour shown by those illegally parked in this area is occurring more and more frequently.
This practice must be stopped. The reason should be obvious. Who wants the next truck coming at you driven by a tired truck driver with nowhere to park?

Just remember when your lucky enough to be on holidays that some of us are still toiling away and need our designated parking bays.

cheers.

Yeh, saw this on facebook....very poor form..

Not sure why you'd want to park near trucks that leave all hrs of the night, and in this case have refrig units going all night ??

They'd have no right to complain if a truck happened to nudge them out of the way..

Yes too true.

Keep in mind everyone else on the road over Christmas is trying to get to family so lets all try and do the right thing by everyone. Stay safe and respectful.

Sign of the times where people only think about #1 and stuff everyone else.

I would have been pretty peeved if I was that truck driver.

Tight-arses.....

All the money they've put into the car/caravan setup, and they won't part with a few dollars. ::)

Why anyone would setup in a truck stop is beyond me.....(but then again, see my opening statement)

Hit the nail on the head..

I'd test the horn on the truck and see if it works.. Make sure there's no other trucks having shut eye first.. >:D

As a heavy vehicle driver myself, this is all too common practice. If i was to park in a caravan only parking bay ,then the phones would run hot straight to the police. The thing with the photo is, the drivers in that truck now has to risk a fine to drive further up the road to find another parking bay if he is already run out of his driving hours.
This could end up costing him hundreds of dollars and demerit points all because the caravan owners didnt want to drive past their 3pm happy hour :-/

When out on the road we all need to share but when it comes to rest breaks the RMS has a NO TOLERANCE policy where to stop, if your out of hours then your out of hours.

A caravan and car can be parked just about anywhere for the night........a b-double cant.

Hi Mark

Do the local Cops patrol this area and ask them to move on ? Is it worth reporting to them ?

These would be the same Police who attend the accidents in the area, so you would think they'd be on your side, even the RMS ! Although we know how they can be  >:D

Or worse, cause a fatality due to fatigue, as the driver was required to continue driving xxxkms to find an appropriate parking area....one would hope this never occurs, but its real possibility.

Yeah, I kinda new the answer to this as I was typing, but you poor blokes/drivers cop a bagging and in particular during the holiday season when more joe public are
out on the road. I as someone who is in the Supply Chain and has a Line-haul driver working the East Coast from Brisbane-Sydney-Brisbane for me would like to think
the same Police/RMS enforce the rules on you also ensure you can comply !

But as you rightly say, would they ?

If they got a number of complaints/calls over time they would need to act, they're not above their own Duty Of Care responsibilities.

Your life is no less valuable then mine

Stay safe mate

X2 on above....maybe even organise a few other drivers to park their trucks up blocking the exits so none of them can get away when they want to leave aswell.

I know CP owners/associations are campaigning against travelers free camping in designated camping areas near towns. I haven't heard of anyone doing anything about stopping travelers using designated truck stops....fines etc?

Just curious...

the trouble with that is Mal that they settle in around 3pm every arvo and dont leave til after breakfast time the next day. we still have tight deadlines that we have to abide by ( the supposed chain of responsibility was to stop all time slots)  ::)
We have a company policy of resting & sleeping between midnight & 7am,so blocking them in would have no advantages im afraid. Maybe a b-double stock crate parked next to their shiny new van, letting the bullocks crap all down the side of the van "might" get the message thru?

A car was parked in a bus zone right behind my father in his coach at parramatta years ago. Dad came from loading luggage jumped into the drivers seat hit reverse so he could clear the coach in front and guess what, he was on the windscreen of the car before he knew it. People came out kicking and screaming, police turned up, fined them for illegal parking, and dad drove off.
