I think you're being a bit subjective here, mate. I'm certain everyone with bling has it for function not looks. I mean, I'm sure the  Playdo I saw at an inner city bottlo recently certainly would have needed the Maxtrax, fluoro handled shovel & kangaroo jack that were on his roof rack as the driveway approach was quite steep ;D
Steve

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this trend of shiny, dirt free 4x4's driving around the burbs with bling on the roof! Funny how the Maxtrax always look brand new ;) Sometimes it's a RTT on the roof - why on earth would anyone drive around the city for months on end with a RTT on the roof rack?

Hi Me, if didn't have to use my roof rack for work tools I'd have the rtt permanently bolted to the roof rack...its a pita to bolt up and take down .......plus if it was always bolted to the roof I could go camping with a moments notice ;D You've got me a bit worried now about the max trax.....im about to buy my first pair, and im concerned they will always look brand new  :D cheers Greg.

I was just thinking that a lot of people seem to spend $$$ and time on their 4x4/camper just to make it look good. Just wandering why it is important to them?

Yes, it's their money and they can do what they want but that is not my point. I'm just wandering why people spend money/time modifying just for the sakes of looks? Pride? To impress mates/others? Why not?

I can't think of any mod on my camper or 4x4 that has been done for looks. I like my stuff to look good but that is often a by-product of the modification. EG lift and new tyres always looks but that is not why it is done.

Just thought I would throw this out there, seemed like the right time....

because they can and they want too...

bit like breast augmentation ... the wifes rack works fine as it was designed but I would always support a modification.... ;D ;D ;D

Because they prioritize "looks" coming 1st over other things!

I find it funny when I see a 4x4 with Big Wheel/low profile tyre combos

I would like to see that one in the sand!

Such is life!

They probably say the same about guys running big muddies (they're bling too). A lot of these 4bys never go offroad so why should they need offroad wheel and tyres when a set of 20s with low profile rubber looks fully sick as!
But maybe they have a big boat and want a heavy vehicle with 4wd so they don't get stuck on the boat ramp.
Just because someone chooses to drive a 4wd dosent mean they're going offroad 4wding.

At the end of the day, who really cares except the one who started this thread, why don't people worry about their own setup instead of what others have

Because they can....
There are far worse things people can waste their coin on.. If it floats their boat... It's all good.
Although I would reckon most people add on for function over form... But if you can have both.. Why not. :)

I'll admit that I have tricked up my Prado with ahead of stuff I don't NEED... However I use it occasionally and wish I could use it more.

The Prado is the wife's daily drive, and is washed, dried and vacuumed every week, tyres are blackened etc etc. I like to take pride in my gear. I do the same to my SR5 each week.

The Yellow front recovery points ($130) on the Prado have not been used, and probably won't be used for another year or more, but they are there, and IF I need them, I have them.

I'm proud of the way my car looks, how clean it is, how functional it is for my family and how much fuel it uses  ;D.

I don't care what other people do to their cars, what they drive, what it looks like, how much fuel they use, what music they like, because at the end of the day, it's entirely their choice (and money)!

I'm not fussed why others do it, I'm not whingeing about it, doesn't affect me one bit but I am interested as to why.

I have no inkling to modify my car just to look better, just wandering why others do. It's your money/time to do what you like. I'm not having a go at anyone for doing it, some of my mates have modified theirs and they do it because "it looks cool", no other reason. No other reason is necessary or requires justification, it's just that I find it an odd reason.

As others have said here, who cares what others think. Then why modify your vehicle to make it stand out/different if you don't care what others think of it? What is the purpose of the modification? Again, no offence meant if you think this is you, just interested hence the post.

But I 110% agree with ANY breast augmentation...

So why do we ,..or should I say, why do I do  some of the unnecessary things that I do.............maybe clever advertising has something to do with it........hypnotic suggestion and peer pressure can also play a part......fashion.....oh dear I feel like such a puppet ;D   cheers greg

I was wondering something similar last weekend at the Dowerin WA4WDA gathering.
Shiny Jeep Wranglers and Pajeros driving to Dowerin and giving the 4WD track a complete miss.
There was one driver who asked after he had done the track, where he could clean the car.
We replied: when you are home tomorrow earliest.
He was shocked.

I guess everyone has their "thing".  Whether they are car people, camping people, boat people, stay at home and watch foxtel on the biggest screen available people.

We all work hard for the dollars and we all have different tastes.  Some would argue that if it was purely function why are we in camper trailers and not tents.  These would be the people who do not have the same interests as us.

Some people are purely for function others like things to look good as well.  Neither is right or wrong.

Those who modify are doing it for their enjoyment,  not yours, (this includes modifying the wife).

They honestly don't care what others think of what they have done.  They do it because it is their passion.
