We have had our car, house and contents and pet insured with Youi for a year now, got the renewals late last week and noticed they had gone up by a few $. I rang them to ask why the increase and he had a look and was able to give me a 35% reduction in premium as we hadn't made a claim or missed a payment. This just blew me away. At the time of taking out the policies Youi didn't offer caravan insurance, but they do now. Just got a great deal from for the van as well. I have it insured with an agreed value on the van and the anexe and got a multi policy discount as well. Feel like i've had a win. :D ;D

standard issue and always been the way... only morons go with the renewal form sent to you. They are just for the lazy or gimps of the earth.

but 35% is an impressive deduction..

Found them to be really expensive. Wife hardly drives and found that Allianz is cheapest for her. Aami for me.

2 claims with allianz over the past 10 years and neither was a problem............... ???

To be honest I think insurance is a lottery. Depends which numpty you get on the end of the phone and what mood they are in on the day................

(I'm now with NRMA with everything - 12 policies!!!) They do look after me because of it, but the reason I like them, is I can understand the voice on the other end - call centres in OZ!)

Yep it is certainly the luck of the draw!

I have policies with NMRA (Boat and camp trailer), the house is with AAMI and the vehicles are with Shannon's. We have found Shannon's to be the easiest to deal with after having a vehicle claim. It was approved within 20 minutes.

I would love to have them all in one spot. Shannon's didn't have house or CT insurance when we enquired. They now do house.

I must get my finger out and find an insurer that does the lot and offers a reasonable discount.

Yep they were absolute turds to deal with when our Prado was damaged in the 2007 Sydney hail storm. They tried to insist that the vehicle was taken to a particular repairer who quoted $6k for the repair. I asked him what panels etc would be replaced (the damage was bad) an he indicated none, he would just beat them out and repaint the areas required.

Knowing a thing or two about the trade I took the car to someone who was reputable (and NMRA accredited) and got a quote also.........$17k, new roof, bonnet, guards, door skins and a full re spray. The other fella was only going to paint parts of it.

I then took it to another repairer who quoted close to $20k for the repairs and indicated that all the panels needed replacing. Both repairers indicated that it was impossible to fix for $6k unless old mate was just mixing the bog up on the car and filling the dents.

Allianz insisted that it was to be taken to the $6k panel shop. Anyway short story long, ombudsman, ASIC and a visit from both an Allianz and independent insurance assessor. Result both assessors agreed that the car needed all the panels replaced and that the companies stance had been ludicrous.

This was a 2 month process before any repairs started. I had been with them for years, had everything with them, never had a claim, max no claim bonus etc etc.

Never again for me!

As with anything, it pays to shop around but you also need to ensure that you are covered for everything your need - i.e. read the PDF.

Just gone through the same with them and find them ok to deal with. When I originally swapped over (not many will touch the Patrol due to the roll cage) they where hundreds ahead on price to other companies.
Like you they didn't have van insurance at the time, so asked about it while on the phone this time around. Their price was $200 dearer than what I'm currently paying ???
I'll never figure insurance out.

Sounds like a win to me mate. When I signed up for RAC home and contents, I was told it wasn't any more to pay monthly. A few months in I realised I was being charged more, so rang up to change it to an annual policy, and was told that I had to wait for the contract to end. I told them to cancel the policy, and the bloke on the line wasn't too impressed. Once he had finished cancelling it, I said, now, please sign me up again on an annual contract, which he did very begrudgingly!

I've found you need to ask and be persuasive or you end up losing out

Just switched the GS & cruiser to Youi. The trailer was with CIL @ $720 per annum but after getting the cruiser for $658 with Youi I thought why am I paying more for the trailer when its worth less and is not on the road any where near as often and when not in use its locked in our garage. Youi was $540 with standard $625 excess, but I took a $1000 excess which made the premium $470 for agreed value of $35000 and covers $750 contents: deal done.
An interesting aspect of Youi cover is for off road use. I asked about this and they said yes "as long as it is used within the manufacturer's specifications/intended use. " This made me wonder about the GS as the dealer ,NOT the manufacturer, said its not suitable for corrugated roads. Lots of grey area there.
Youi also only charge 1 excess fee if I am involved in accident whilst towing as they treat the incident as 1 claim only, which I thought was very fair.
They have also given me a very good quote for H & C ins too.
Overall they will be dearer for some but better for others which I like. I am not subsidising the high risk drivers to the same extent as with other ins companies.

That is a little different to what I have been told to Youi - like others on here switched to them last year and saved heaps
I enquired at the time as to where or how I WAS NOT covered and this is a direct cut and paste from their email reply for where i am not covered

when your car is being used on a permanent or temporary racetrack, raceway or course, or in a four wheel drive or adventure park, or if it is used for racing, trials, speed tests, pacing, contests,
rallies or for endurance or skills tests

NOTE : It says Four Wheel Drive or Adventure Park so by the definition given to nbd73 in my quoted post these explanations are different - time to ring and check AGAIN, this seems to be the one point with EVERY insurance company and that is getting a clear definition of where we are and are not covered, I ways always under the impression(rightly or wrongly) that if we were legally entitled to be there, we were covered (in a 4wding scenario)

My renewal is up in a couple of weeks.  $500 for a 16yo Patrol insured for $7900 through Suncorp. Seemed a bit exy.
Suncorp online quote - $434. AAMI online quote $423 (and they are the same company??)
Did Youi online - just want a quick online quote - after filling out the pages they want to ring me??
Talked to bloke for third degree. Then he quoted a figure over $600 and with a higher excess
I laughed & said my renewal was $500. He went into the spiel about talking to his manager. $480 he could do
Then I said that the Suncorp online quote was even less.  After more fluffing, he reckoned he could beat it.
But I had to sign up right now. Seriously, I don't want to sign up right now - just want a quote so I can compare.

Might tell him to shove it when he rings back tonight. Damn annoying he was.
If he was originally going to sell me a policy at over  $160 above what his best price was....then I really can't trust him or his company.

They are no different to anyone else. They all do it: offer you a renewal a little bit higher in the hope that you will jyst pay it without looking or thinking. I intend to requote my insurance every year as there is no loyalty reward any mire from any big company. Look at banks: how often do you see "0% interest for 6mths on transferred balances" and similarly foxtel with free install and movies etc fot NEW customers only.
As for having to call, agree they should just put ALL their questions on line, but then that would allow comparison quotes which they are obviously trying to avoid.
If your premium is going to be more then chances are you are, in their eyes, a higher risk than average. No one company will ever suit all of us all of the time.

Try Shannons.

Have a look at what happened here with Shannons, about halfway through this post ...  :o !

I'm not sure that I would have anything to do with them.
The consequences of being refused insurance by an insurer are dire - any insurer; any insurance policy. You have to declare it to any/every other insurer for the rest of your life ...

Perhaps.

Bit hard for them to explain how they have given one rating one protection, and then decline to insure one though .... I never threaten people, but I haven't the slightest hesitation in pointing out what is going to occur if they choose to ignore common decency and sense. Insurance loss adjusters can be very aggressive, and one or two of them have tried it out on me over the years, to their cost ...

If you read all the posts in the thread that relate to the refusal, it stinks to heaven ...

Neither I nor my SWMBO have had a claim where we have lost our excess for at least 35 years, and possibly longer, but I wouldn't want to get mixed up with an insurer who is known to me to be dodgy, just to get a few dollars off the premium.

Roo2 is still insured for a little more than what I paid for it 2.5 years ago as an agreed sum policy. My insurer agreed with me that I had indeed got an excellent deal when I purchased it. Same goes for our other Forester that we bought about 2 years ago.

I'm not a lawyer, even though I've done a lot of legal study at Uni, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and spent a lot of time in the corner of my commercial litigation QC's office while we were engaged in a pro-bono matter together. Protection of coastal Crown land from misbehaviour by a junior public servant. It went on for 6 years. We won (sort of).

And I do have insurance for everything - cars, trailer, house, health ... .

Like everyone else, I sincerely hope that someone else's house burns down, not ours. But it's handy to know that if ours does burn down, we won't be penniless and out in the street. I saw this very thing happen to a family that lived near us when I was very young.

Read the pds and make sure it covers your needs. Make sure you list accessories as well. Remember that some insurers cover things like 4wding but not in 4wd parks etc.
If you don't read the pds there is every chance that you will get caught out. And remember the pds can change year to year so just because you were covered for something last year doesn't mean you are covered this year. Your insurer has no obligation to tell you things have changed. It is your responsibility to read the pds each renewal. The pds can change several times a year but only will affect you at policy renewal or if insurer advises you that there has been changes.
