we attended the Dawn Service in Monto this year, was up early for the drive back into town from Cania Gorge. always nice to see how the country town services are done, they seem much less formal then what the big cities services are like. a friend that was there with us took some great photos of the service (i'll try and get a copy and post one or 2 up), but for me i don't take the camera and prefer to just reflect on what the day is all about. was nice to see so many young people aswell as the older generations at the service aswell  8) 8)

A photo of my 2 who marched with their School at Kingscliff ceremony. My 10 year old, who just loves getting his photo taken(not) is wearing my Dads replica medals. Old fella still has originals and is going strong at 89. He joined at 17 and came back 3 years later a very changed young man. My mum who's 88 waited for him, talks about a very different person on his return. Hard to get much out of him. He was at New Guinea and Bougainville and went through wounding experiences. We are very proud of him.

Dawn Service at Seymour then marched with the local CFA after the 11AM service in town . Then went camping on the Murray till today  :cup:

Was camping at Nelligen so went to Bateman's Bay service. Incredibly well organised by local Soldiers Club and well supported by the community. All the schools had contingents, all services well represented in the march. Address given by RAN Captain (women Director of Naval Medicine) - she was very impressive and explained the RAN's role at Gallipoli - didn't realise what a crucial role they had.

Well my son marched out of Kappoka on Friday a "Trooper" it was a huge parade with some 800 visitors because the two platoons were quite large. Because of a couple of kids in my sons platoon there was a few "special " visitors (there for personal not official roles) but I got to see a VC up close and a real war hero. Seems a Very humble man too. It was a great day and we are as proud as punch.

It is amazing to see your son march out Kapooka, I didn't ever believe I would see my son behave in such a manner, all the graduates are amazing. Having seen my son march after returning from Iraq and Afghanistan I would have to say he has provided us with many proud moments.
He returned from Afghanistan 10 days before our schools remembrance Day Service and he offered to do the talk but he only managed 1 minute before he broke down, the shortest but the most moving talk I have witnessed. He lost 2 of his best mates but it did bring it home to the senior students in our school
That is not to say I haven't been concerned for him since his return. But he is aware of the fact that he is suffering a bit from  PTSI but he is fortunate that his wife will let him talk about it.

Hey Barb

Well don't to your son.  You would be very proud of him.   I also have a nephew who has been to Timor and Afghanistan.  I haven't seen him since he came back from Afghanistan but he has taken 12 months leave without pay and is overseas at the moment.  I can only hope he is coping ok.
