And a challenger is any different? Where is the line for a proper 4wd?

33 inch tyres, tick,

3 inch suspension lift, tick,

Bullbar, tick,

Roller drawers, tick,

Factory diff lockers, tick, etc, etc, etc,

I can keep going, but to compare an Xtrail with a proper 4wd is just dumb.

Yep a list of accessories, we all have a list, including the guy that owns the xtrail. It is still a 4wd, same as your challenger. I suppose a brumby isn't a real 4wd either.  ??? ???

If it has a transfer case it is a 4WD, otherwise it is just an AWD...

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but not necessarily to express it............

If you are using your car to enjoy what pleases you, then great.
If you are having fun with it then great.
If you have some tongue in cheek humour, then great.
If you've offended anyone ------THEN GREAT> they need to chill out.

Life's too short. Live laugh and have fun.
Besides that absolutely freakin awesome "myswag" sticker offsets everything..........................

Live it up.

Xtrail,

Front wheel drive. Rear wheels lock when front wheels slip.

Rear wheels disengage over 40kph.

Not even a constant AWD, over 40kph.

Nope, not a real 4wd.

Xtrails have their purpose. My mum has one.

I hired one to get to Ayers Rock from Alice then over to Kings Canyon then up to rainbow valley.

Great car to drive.

Would I risk one up to Vic high country or Fraser? No.

But to compare an Xtrail to a real proper 4wd is just dumb.

Cheers mate, see drawing the line wasn't hard was it. That is a better explanation, not a list of accessories that you have bolted to your car.

 have a great day, hope you don't run in to bobnrob somewhere lol

More than happy to attach my snatch strap to the front of another Myswag members vehicle, regardless of what they drive.

We the CFA were involved in helping to park cars for The Head of the River regatta just out of town . This snoozer & the wife turns up in a brand New Range Rover , 1st trip . l managed to direct him to park on a dry bare clay area . l congratulated him on " His 1st Off Road Esperance "  The wife smiled , he wasn't impressed at all .
lts all how you take it after all . Leave laughing as you go
was out 4wding with a new Range Rover today, very capable vehicles even with the road profile tyres it had on it, watching the electronics in action up and down some steep loose rocky hills was quite interesting. well that was right up until a mate jumped in to drive it for a while and not more then 5 minutes up the track he sliced the side wall of the 19" tyre  :o ...glad i don't have to pay the replacement cost of that...lol.

Your car your sticker mate  ;D ;D ;D

But just like those people with XXXXXX recovery vehicle stickers on their back windscreen it pays to never get stuck mate  ;D ;D ;D.

If you ever do get stuck I would very quickly remove your stickers as a humorous bloke like me might just be too busy enjoying the humour of your sticker to actually recover you. ;D ;D ;D

I would never in my life attach a "Nissan recovery vehicle" sticker to my cruiser but plenty do... your not a swanker for putting the sticker on ....but you quickly become one when the car gets bogged and needs a proper 4wd  (full low range gearbox)  to pull it out. Or your crusier needs recovery by a Nissan or vice versa.

I don't get  upset I just laugh as I drive off  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sick of seeing all the phoney's with all the (un)neccessary status symbols bolted to their 'take me to the shops/drop the kids to school' cars   ::)
Thought I'd carry this around for a while, 'specially seen as I've been doing a fair bit of going to, and driving 'round sydney lately   >:D

while I get the point you're trying to make (hey, I drive a Jeep:-)), I'd remove the inverted comma's (" " " ") and last word (4x4). And just leave the last line as 'offroad more than most'. Makes the point without rubbing it in and setting yourself up for abuse etc.

Just depends on the definition of "off road"  ;D

Just as long they are out there doing it, who cares.  8)

By that list I don't drive a real 4WD either, looks like I'll have to give the Cape a miss.

I have mates with 'real' 4wds, Landcruisers, that are bog stock and have never seen a dirt road, they do tow 2-3T boats though. Try doing that with your X-trail :)

We had a brand new 09 x-trail, it was a P.O.S. No power, no room and saggy suspension so we got a second hand Prado instead. It is far superior in every aspect to the x-trail. I wouldn't normally crap on your choice of car but by having a sticker like that you're just asking for it. Good luck if you ever need a snatch.

They have their place.  For the person who mostly is on the blacktop and does the occasional run along the beach (most 'soft roaders' are quite capable in sand) or wants slightly more ground clearance on dirt roads they do fine.

When I recently went to Fraser one of the guys in our group drove a Vitara, and with the exception of the bypass track at South Nkgala rocks he went everywhere we did without assistance.

Bob - looks like you've upset at least one  :cup:
a Vitara is hardly a soft raider with a dual range transfer case

FFS, anybody  else wanna have a go,

I was comparing MY current setup to an Xtrail.

In no way was I comparing to anything or anybody else.

Fk, too many highly strung people around here.

When did I say a 100 series was not a 4wd.

I was comparing to what I drive to an Xtrail.

I don't care what anybody drives, it their prerogative. I drove a kluger  for a while and yes I had to sit on my own around a separate campfire but i excepted it as I was a lowly 2WD owner. But I was still parked next to the 4WD''s ( they did have to tow me to the spot though:))

All good mate, you did do that, in the process I think you said that unless, you have 33's factory diff lock, drawer unit etc that you don't own a real 4wd

Pmsl.  ;D ;D

I personally don't see the point of Xtrails or those sort of Cross breed pretend type of vehicles.

Well we had the previous model rav4 after selling the landcruiser as I had a medical condition that meant I couldn't go 'proper' 4wding too far from help (IE low range places).

The Rav towed our jayco swan up and down the east coast of oz. Took us into national parks where a 2wd would have got stuck, onto beaches where a 2wd would have got stuck and cruised down the highway and the back roads in more comfort, speed and economy than most 'real 4wd's' could ever hope to achieve.

We now have a prado as we can go 'proper' 4wding again.

Horses for courses of course!

The day I have no need for the clearance of a prado/pajero/hilux then I will probably get a Subaru Outback.
