Simply for us it comes down to cost and what we want. It's an $8k trailer at RRP with a special on at the moment at $5,499.00

It's only our second CT and so we're considering the cheaper option to get all the bits and pieces we want and have a bit of fun. For something we're only going to use 4 or 5 times a year for no more than 5 days at a time, I don't see the point in spending an extra couple of thousand at the moment or even in 6 months time.

My Wife bought our Son one of those Chinese 49cc Motorbikes brand new. I thought what a waste of $450. To be honest it's a good bit of kit for the price. So why couldn't an imported CT be similar? (hopefully)

How much is this trailer your looking at? I notice many *cheaper* trailers are rocketing up in price lately.

But I dont get the whole spend all that money to have to fix it gig.. it doesnt make sense. if its Galvanized I believe welding will screw it and you need to have it re-galvnaize... strip every part off it and send it away.

If you must by imported, look around for something of better quality. But as said earlier, you'd be better off even saving for another 6 months and buy a used aussie built.
Why not have a word to Nathan about his trailers and options, at least hes open and honest about things.

Thanks Lost.

Hi Evan

if you look at the compliance plate should have the company trailer name
I had a Marlin camper but on compliance plate was a Sydney trailer company( wholesale trailers I think)
But I could be wrong
plus no matter what you buy in the long run its your decision
as  long as you have a good time in it

I don't think there is a problem with an imported trailer.. The thing is steel..steel can be welded and fixed relatively easy.

The tent would be my concern. A) the size.. Having it up a massive tent, couple of drinks or not, it's a pain in the arse. B) quality of said tent for waterproofing ability. If it leaks, your going to be wet and pissed off.

Nothing like a good base to build up from though. As others have mentioned, you can get a good second hand for this money, that will have any bugs ironed out of it.

Good luck, enjoy the camping.

Like most imported tents, they are modular. So u can erect the main tent (standard 12ft tent) then the 2 extra awnings simply zip & Velcro on. I have had my 23x18ft tent for years and never ever used it all. I only ever use main awning, and first roof. So don't be scared be having a big tent. Also for added security I used a product called aqua proof. It's a water proofing membrane available from BCF. Although my tent never leaked, it doesn't hurt to have an extra later of protection.

Cheers

It comes in 2 forms. 4Lt which can be sprayed, rolled, or brushed or 415gram aerosol. I used the liquid. I diluted 50/50 with water and sprayed both inside and outside. It's also known to prevent mould/mildew.

For what you have described you will be using it for, you realise you can buy an Australian made, brand new Customline camper called the 'Tourer' with all the bits you require for $8,190.00. For that money which is only a bit more than you wish to spend you will never need to repair, replace or build-up this camper due to cheap imported products? In my opinion it will probably work out better economically in the end plus far better quality and peace of mind. I'm not putting s*&T on imports but with the $$$ you are talking about someone has already mentioned saving the extra for some more months to purchase something like this. Just my 2c.
Cheers.

I had a look at T&R in Coopers Plains, Brisbane. Yes they are imported but "assembled" in Australia. The draw bar is bolted to the chasis, not welded. Very much the same as all the other cheaper CTs. I was quiet surprised with the trailer itself, the finishing touches seemed more complete than some other imported CTs.

When I mentioned the draw bar being bolted to the chasis - This was the hard floor model I had a look at. This may differ between their range and possibly between states - all depends on their business model I guess.
