Nah, just get rid of the incessant heat, cyclones, floods, crocs, stingers, etc, etc, etc,!   ;D  Then QLD would be wonderful.

You forgot all the Southerners!  >:D

Instead of changing clocks & being out of synch with the real world, why not just change work times i.e. a 9-5 worker does 8-4 etc. I mean, you're getting up an hour earlier anyway. Having lived in Western Qld, D/S is not an option really. Who remembers trying to watch a movie at the Mt Isa drive-in theatre in summer? You wouldn't see most of the 1st movie because it was still light. (Couldn't do too much else in the vehicle either because of the light)

Ahh, the wonderful time collaboration of our illustrious leaders.  The current version of the old railway gauge story.

My personal gripe is not with daylight saving (as I actually like it) but with the idiotic nong-nongs who decided to split a continuous urban centre (Tweed/Gold Coast) with a time warp line through it?

Try living 500m from the Qld & NSW border.  We have for the past 20years.  Then add in living in one state and working in another.  Add a wife who did shift work in both states - for a real head spin!!  Then friends living on different times.  Plus "local time"  phonecalls when your trying to sleep.  Double checking cross border appoinments to confirm "what time are you on?" .....................and THEN they extend the period of time difference for longer!

After a few years there is no novelty in it -  it's just like living in a bad version of "Back to the Future" with a one hour reset button.

Worst part is I arrive at work 1/2hr before I leave home  ???  and to make it worse the short 30km drive home after work takes a minimum 1.5 hours every day!  >:(  That means I am at work at least a total of 1.5hours longer every day during daylight savings which I don't get paid for!!!!  :o

Yup, just another political way to rip-off of the worker!

PS Got to admit midnight New Years isn't too bad though - as we get two .

I think that if you put your clock back this weekend you will be two hours behind everyone else. Perhaps you better put it forward like the rest of us! 8)

I missed daylight savings in QLD when the trial stopped, it took an hours sleep of me every night,  because thanks to daylight saving it made my night longer????. As I would go to bed at 10:30 and get up at 3:30 to be at work at sun up at 4:40. Meaning I got 5 hrs sleep, but during daylight savings I would still go to bed at 10:30 but as the sun didn't rise until 5:40 by the watch I could sleep in till 4:30 and get 6 hours sleep,

Yup- that's the feeling.

A not uncommon day.

I leave for work early at 7.30 to be at work by 7.00 because we want to go out tonight and I need to be home by 6.00 which means I must leave work by 4.30 (0.5hr drive home) otherwise I won't make the 6.15 deadline to get dressed, pick up the family and be back with our friends at 5.45 (0.5hr drive).  Meanwhile daughter is catching the 8.06 bus today to ensure she gets to school by 8.00 (1 hour bus trip).  My wife will leave at 9.00 to start a 8.15 to 11.15 shift. She then races for 15mins to make the next shift starting at 12.30 and finishing 4.00 after which she has just enough time for the 0.5hr drive to pick up our daughter at 3.30 before racing back (another 0.5hr drive) to be at an appointment for 5.00.  We hope the appoinment ends before 5.20 as she has to pick up something from a firm which shuts at 4.30 and the 5min drive from the appointment to the shop means she will be cutting it very fine.  All goes well and she makes it by 4.30.  She then races home (15min drive) and gets home at 5.45.  She has 0.5hr to get ready.  I get in at 6.00 and we are all gone by 6.15.  Arrive at out friends at 5.45.  We have to leave early though at 8.30 because my wife has a big shift tomorrow which starts at 7.00 and she needs at least 8 hours sleep beforehand and its 0.5hrs drive home meaning we won't get home until 10.00. We make it home and all is well.  At 6.15 the alarm rings and we all spring into action to ensure my wife gets to work for 7.00 and for the daughter and myself to cruise through the morning so as to be at work and school by 8.00 (0.5hr drive) after doing homework and some bookwork.  The phone rings and it is my wife's client "where are you -  your 15mins late! Its 7.15"?          Chaos ensues.

"WHO SET THE ALARM TO QLD TIME!!!!!!!"

Just a typical day in paradise with daylight saving. ;D

The sobering thought for you is that even with heat, cyclones, floods, crocs, stingers etc etc QLD is still better than south of the border :)

I still can't understand why QLD and WA need to be 'brought into line' with other states, why don't other states get rid of DS and bring themselves back into line with QLD and WA?

Don't remember anyone ever saying daylight savings is progress?  For us southerners, we all just enjoy those long relaxing summer evenings.  Only downside is the kids get fed dinner late and they argue over bedtime. "It's not bedtime, cause the street lights are still on!"

Seems the only ones who don't like DS, as those who don't participate. :D

The worst part about changing the clocks and we only have 2 in the house to change, all the rest are automatic, but its hanging the clocks back on the wall and finding the little hole in the back of the clock.

then remembering to change the car clocks, that usually takes a couple of weeks.

I'm assuming you are going on the rhetoric of "those who complain, have never tried it"?  The only people who complain about daylight savings are those in QLD, NT and WA who have either come from the south, or who are running businesses that are impacted by interstate interactions.

It is worth noting that WA has had four referendums on DS, and it has been voted down each time.  The 2009 vote was after a three year trial.  It obviously was of no benefit to WA.

QLD adopted it during the war years with the other eastern states but got rid of it in 1972.  It was brought in again for a three year trial and voted out in 1992.  Again it was of no benefit to QLD.

NT got rid of it back in 1944.

So yes we have tried it, and got rid of it because it is of no benefit.  What I personally am sick of the stupid comments by those in the south that Queensland is 'backwards' by not having it.  We tried it, it sucks, we got rid of it - why is that so difficult to comprehend?

Here I was thinking this thread was a bit of friendly banter ??? Hence the cheesy face.

I don't think QLD is backwards because of DS.  I works for a recently merged company who's CEO is Brisbane based and has therefore made the QLD office, head office.  I get to hear about the companies 'new' systems and 'new' ideas all the time...

We live in a different climate to you guys, so it works for us.  I like it for a lifestyle reason, work comes 2nd in my life!
What other states do quite frankly does not bother me, my life or work.
