UN-MYSWAGMAN LIKE BEHAVIOUR
« on: July 04, 2013, 07:42:34 PM »
I think its bad form when someone whats to share how excited and happy they are about getting a new CT purchase and they get ripped off having that "good happy feeling" with negative comments from people about my mates mates uncle had a imported trailer blah blah blah and they are crap.  Generally start knocking their new CT purchase without even laying eyes on it.

I do object to CT Companies who pretend they sell an OZ made Trailer when half the components and canvas comes from overseas.
Who cares if the trailer is made here or made or overseas.  People rant and rant and about how forum members should buy Oz made and go on and on and on about it. There is a word for it and it is called "hypocrite" They say this while driving their imported vehicle with their house full of imported furniture and imported electricals.

Regardless of how you feel about imported CT's; don't bag out someone for buying one.

The point is, Mums and Dads are sharing quality outdoors time and priceless special memories with their kids, close family and friends. That is the whole point of this forum isn't it??? At least I thought it was.
Overall I think it is un-MySwagman like behaviour; and IMO it should stop. Anyone else?

Hear what your saying Muzza. Unfortunately it happens all too often, and in my experience, if you've read any threads I've contributed to, it is exactly as you say, by someone who owns an Aussie made camper who can't help but make you feel you've sold this countries kids employment opportunities as well.

It's called big dick syndrome. For those of you who don't know what big dick syndrome is, I'll explain. It's when someone thinks their dick is more impressive than yours and can't help themself and they feel obligated to let you know that they think their dick is bigger and better than yours.

Most people only criticise to justify their own decisions in life. In this case it confronts them with 'was it really worth the extra I spent?'. Then they hope that everyone else will chime in with some comfort about how the cheap one will fall apart blah blah blah... Then off they go happy with themself for another day.

Plenty of people like that in life.

Who care whether you have a swag, 3 second pop up tent, $50k camper, Landcruiser, Nissan or whatever as long as you are out there enjoying it, that's the main thing isn't it.

Muzza, I am genuinely sorry if you have, or even if you just feel you have, been bagged for buying an imported camper. I know you have always been upfront about what you're buying and had a clear understanding of what you might have had to do to the camper to bring it up to a standard that you would be happy with.

I have certainly commented in threads where folks have inquired about some of the Chinese manufactured campers, only ever to protect the hard earned of those folks. As a representative of what I consider to be one of the better built camper brands I regularly meet prospective camper owners who have no clue at all about the differences between various brands and builds, and likely don't have the skill, time or resources to be able to make improvements where necessary.

However, no one should be ridiculed or made to feel bad about their camper on MySwag. We have always tried to be inclusive. Budgets are a real thing and not everyone can afford whichever camper they might desire or aspire to, so whatever gets you out there has been something of a mantra.

Happy to take to task those who are overly critical.

Not you mate. You are always the Gentleman and your comments are positive and constructive.
I have also commented on threads to clarify to people that think they are buying an OZ made CT that is in fact imported and they will need to carefully check things over their CT, that it will most likely be modified, fixed etc.
I agree with your comments mate, all good.

I agree, I bought an Australian made camper, neighbour bought an imported one, both of us went camping and they both worked the same... We all had a great time!  Everyone has a budget and everybody has the right to make their own choice and be respected for it.

The price proposition of some of these products is compelling. My other car is an XR6 Turbo and I needed some new tyres. I do 130 Km's per day at a minimum and could pay $400 for brand name or $175 for some imported ones. I have driven 5 thousand Km's on them and can say other than some minor reduced wet weather grip they perform the same. To get back on topic, forums slam some of these decisions and they have never actually tried them but hide behind broad based assumptions. If I was to believe the threads I would be dead by now...

I have enjoyed your posts and the modifications to improve areas on your trailer. I suspect you will be a long way ahead and never have any regrets. That is providing you stop working on it and take it camping ;)

We had a $3000 import and had a great time in it, we also had a great time in our $30,000 Goldstream so I'm not about to knock anyone, however it does make me wonder what's in it for those who seek to destroy other peoples enjoyment.

I think the point of the thread is in the manner of how you express it.  A bit of courtesy goes a long way.

Hi muzza01,
I would have to agree with you about the anti import ( Chinese ) camp trailer comments , but it is not just import trailers that cop a flogging from some on this forum . HID lights, Diff Lockers, 4x4 Electric Winches , BBQ's and the list goes on. 30 years ago it was anti JAP made - bloody jap crap , 15 years ago it was anti KOREA made , now it appears to be anti CHINA made.

cheers duggie

G'day Muzza,

Don't let ém get to ya, there's plenty of keyboard hero's around these days...... all part of modern day society. I'm sure your new camper will bring you and your mob plenty of big smiles...... focus on that and forget about the knockers.......
Bloody 'ell, my camping (prior to the camper trailer) was all done in a 15 yr old tent bought from k-mart for half price, and all my camping gear Mrs and 4 kids were lugged around in an '84 petrol hilux, with no a/c :cup:...... oh heaven forbid!!!!
Pretty sure, if i had good times doing that with my mob in that set up, you'll have a ripper plus time doing what you're doing in your new camper!

Happy travels mate!
