Tent ropes pegged into the next campsite.
« on: July 03, 2013, 12:58:03 PM »
I am currently at big4 cania gorge. On arrival I noticed that the people camping beside me had a massive set up with their tarp pegged down 1.5-2.0m into my campsite. Now the sites are only about 6m wide and suddenly mine was only 4m wide.
My wife asked me not to say anything or cause a scene (she knows I would only ask once and if I got backchat I would follow with a barrage of lefts and rights). She suggested that I get management to deal with it.
I went and saw management and they said someone would be down in 30mins to sort it out. So we started setting up.
When management came he asked if the ropes could be moved and was told no. He then told me that it would be easier if I just moved over a bit...wtf.
In the end the camper moved a few ropes about 30cm-50cm and said there you go, that gives you heaps of room. Even though he was still 1.0-1.5m into my campsite.
I don't think it's wrong of me to expect that after paying $60+per night that I should be able to use my whole campsite.
Any way so far my payback has consisted of music playing with me singing...lol...and I cranked the diesel heater up as hot as I could stand last night so that he could enjoy the beautiful whistle it makes not to mention the fumes going straight under his tarp...lol
Tomorrow rain is forecast so I might accidentally trip over I few of his ropes and pull them out...

Rant over

That's pretty disappointing from the park manager and your next door neighbour.
Camping with CT's is a new thing for us and we normally camp away from caravan parks although I expect we will be using them a bit in the future.
I know i have seen quite a few CT setups in parks over the years.  I suppose each to their own but some of the CT's out there are ridiculously large and have annexes the size of a circus tent that encroach on neighbours rent space at the caravan park.

A bit of common courtesy from your neighbour would have gone a long way but there are a lot of *ankers out there.

Ask for a partial refund.
half a meter into your site for ropes is bordering on acceptable but 1.5m is a joke.

To me it's just common courtesy, keep within your site and obey park rules...

Always a difficult situation with ropes and pegs (not that I'd know!  ;D ) but does ol' mate need all the room his tarp provides?

Best option is to have long noisy sessions of full on hard core sex.

Nothing will drive a neighbour more crazy than to know you're having a better time than them:-)

When they go out for a drive, you could always remove the poles and rope to the ground for them.  However I do like scarps idea ... I think it has some merit.   ;D

Is that his timber at the front, it's on your side ... it's yours.  Same with his ropes ...

But seriously, it's not all that hard to be a considerate person ... it takes practise to be inconsiderate.

Just be careful not to trip over the ropes when carrying a knife, they go through rubber tyres like a hot knife through butter.

One positive - at least it's on the dead side of your camper.   No problem if you can leave it at that.   Free firewood is always good.   No need to be polite or considerate with him anyway during your stay.

We went to Cania Tourist Retreat, (that's the park up the road from the big 4) for Easter and management were so particular about making sure everyone stayed within their own campsite boundry. Everyone was escorted to their site and shown the boundry lines. I had booked months in advance, was told my site number etc (we were placed right on the end - excellent I thought, only neighbours on one side) When we arrived found that we had been moved, because according to 'management' they got a group booking. Where were we, right next to a nice big smelly ski boat loaded with fuel cans. The smell was terrible. I was furious. Went to the office and asked to be relocated. Was told I should take up the matter with the boat owner.. WTF.  After a few words were had with park management they relocated us.  I won't go back there eva again.

Jees just enjoy your holiday all the ropes are on the off side which it would be rare that you would acess anyway, have a beer and a smile and move on. Yes the sites are marked out but it is not like you do a title search before you move in

As for your line of "(she knows I would only ask once and if I got backchat I would follow with a barrage of lefts and rights)"

So you are telling me that if the other campers response to you was that it is all on the off side what is the problem your next thought process would to physically assult them, maybe less time camping and more time at anger management

Cut the ropes...  they are posing a danger to you and your wife in the middle of the night if you need to get up... I'd go see management and ask for their insurance companies name. That usually gets them to work

WTF is the bloke thinking? What gives him the right to think he can take 1/2 the next site.

Firstly I'd be having my ropes going into his area. The one you have there is nearly straight up and down.

or just get up in the night, and pretend to trip over them, rip them out of the ground and bend them to horse shoe shape.

But I have suffered from small sites that you physically cannot fit into one site, and other parks that say take as much room as you need...  how can you win.

I think more people need to learn how to chill out a bit more.....isn't that why we go camping ??

Sure he's in the wrong, but nothing has changed, so suck it up and enjoy yourself..

If you don't like this sort of scenario, next time go free camping where you can spread out as much as you like ...

I reckon peg your ropes for your ensuite out to his wheels. Will have him tripping over when he walks down that side.  ;D

Just don't let it get to you. Bit like someone cutting you off in the traffic, best just to turn up the music and relax, otherwise it just gets you agro and spoils your trip.

BTW totally agree with keeping inside your own boundaries at a caravan park. Be different if they ask you and you say "yeah no worries". But just don't expect to take someone else's space, or where does it stop?

I agree with gronk. Harden the frig up. there is a whole lot worse to worry about in this world than a bit of space you will never use other than your own annex poles and ropes. If this sort of camping is going to cause so much stress then why don't you stay in a hotel where the boundaries are clearly delineated.

We actually have to access that side of the camper quite often. So the ropes are a problem.

I guess my anger problems come from being bullied as a youngster. These days I can look after myself and I have a short fuse for an old fella...lol
