What makes people tick?
« on: July 01, 2013, 02:06:10 PM »
Driving home from a weekend at Gilgandera on sunday and i came across a camper broken down on the side of the road, did the right thing and pulled up to see if they needed a hand, they had snapped a slipper spring in the middle, and the trailer wheel was burning through the guard. Now the gentleman had the situation in hand he had cut a piece of timber from the side of the road, jacked up the trailer and was trying to tie the timber in place, this was their 3rd trip around Aus in the same camper, and they only stay in caravan parks,I gave him a hand to lash the timber in place and noticed that the wheel bearing was loose, Now here's the kicker, he got some paper towel out to clean up the grease on the stub axle adjusted up the axle nut, about 1.5 turns, put it all back together wiped his hands with the paper towel and threw it into the grass on the side of the road. I waited chating for 5 minutes then when it was obvious that the paper was staying in the grass and that it wasn't an oversight, I wandered over and picked it up and gave to back to him asking him to put it in the next bin he came to, several excuses came my way of why he had done it and he never does it normally to which i pointed out that if he leaves 1 piece of rubbish there the next person comes along and does the same thing it soon looks like a tip, he took it pretty well considering he was 1 1/2 times my age, anyway after leaving them to it as they were going to limp it into Denman about 50kms down the road to see if they could get another spring instead of going straight to Foster which would be 3.5hrs further on were they had booked in for the night.  I stopped for a quick lunch a bit further down the road waved as they went past, I got to the other side of Denman and low and behold here they are traveling  at about 95kph, I decided that being behind them was not a good spot to be and put them behind me.
Three things,
How much rubbish have these 2 people left around Australia in their 2.5 trips around this great country?
Would you travel 3.5 hrs down the road when you could have it fixed the next day at the first town you came to which also had a caravan park? ( they had no time constraints)
How fast would you travel with the above problem?

Mate some people know everything and you cant tell them anything. Some people are not like minded like us.

eg I was 4wding recently along a nice river nearby and came across a car bogged in the sand.  The owner waved me down and asked if I could pull him out.  I said yes (thinking bloody idiot for bringing a Hyundai Excel this far down the sand) Any way I have no where to hook the snatch to on his car.  I suggest that if I hook on the front of his car (under the spoiler) that his spolier may get damaged.  He looks over at his Mrs and says to me "you break it, you pay for it"
I said "good luck in trying to encourage a towtruck to come down here; goodbye"

I cant work out what makes some people tick myself.

That freaking hilarious ... he'd have to be in with a good chance of taking out the MYSWAG WANKER OF THE YEAR award.

Someone should collect 10 of these good dickhead examples and then do a poll. That would be funny.

I would have loved to see the look on his face as you pack the snatch strap away and hop in your car and drive away. I am laughing just thinking about it. :cup:

No doubt the guy is asking for trouble trying to drive so far, at such a speed unnecessarily.
I'm sure every cop in the land would turn a blind eye, even offer compliments for the road side repairs, if you were only driving to the 1st town, but then happily lock you up for driving on and causing trouble on the road some how after that town.

I once had the highest privilege of helping a bogged Suzuki Sierra long ago with my Old 1978 Kombi Van Poptop. Yep, drove around him in the wet sandy bog and pulled him out.
Now the fact that he was being silly and got stuck with out thinking plays no part at all in my re-telling of the story 20 years on ....... ;D

I'd love to see the excel after getting a good yank out of the bog by a LC. I'd say be more damage then just a spolier.

I think I met the same guy!
On the Bribie island inland track. Pretty much same scenario... Almost went back just to take a pic of his facial expression as I drove away.

Good one Muzza, there are more out there than we care to think about, we found one in the snow a few years ago stuck on a track up behind Erica in Gippsland, pulled him out and turned him around as the snow was quite deep and a lot of ice a well, we explained that he had no chance of driving a car any further up the track.  We continued up the track and returned 1 1/2 hours later to find the same car stuck in the same place, couldn't believe it, said he wanted to keep going up the track, so we told him to go for it and left him there, bl**dy  DH, some people cannot be told,
cheers Andy

The general population is full of dick heads.

Thats an understatement, if I've ever heard one.!
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

I was overseas earlier in the year, driving down a mountain road from ski fields in low range because of the amount of ice and fresh snow.  We came across a guy attempting to stop their Mercedes (no chains) from sliding into the embankment with his own body.

I think some overseas tourists would take out such an award.
A few years ago my oldman was touring up around William Creek / Oodnadatta, sitting in the WC pub and the Publican got a phone call saying that someone was bogged on Lake Ayre.
My old man being a farmer and kind man went out to help the Publican recover the tourist. It was a Toyota Troop Carrier/ Camper with the front burried up to the windscreen wipers in a not so hard salt lake. The tourist thought he may as well go for a bit of a drive on the lake to see the sights!
Two days later and one average looking troopy they were out.
Regards
Angus.

We headed bush last Monday. On the way to camp SWMBO commented how all the campsites were empty. We get to camp and have the place to ourselves - ah, the serenity!

8pm and a car and bike trailer come into camp. Thinking they'll see us and move on I go about sipping. Next thing they are camped next to us with only a small regeneration area between us. Then they fire up the music and motorbikes  ??? They then get two loads of firewood from up the road in their 6x4 trailer and proceed to have a bonfire until midnight when they go for more wood. I contemplate a ninja crawl with a bag of sugar to 'tune' their motorbikes but think better of it....I only assume they got lost or bogged - as they woke me at 5:30am returning to their camp.

Following evening one of them come over asking for a lighter - his ran out. I didn't mention lighting a smoke from a campfire....don't think he would have got it  >:D Gave him a box of matches and mentioned the noisey bikes. That night the music was a bit quieter and the bikes quietened down considerably.

The next evening, bikes are almost non-existant, music off, ahhh, how's the serenity?

Lad comes back into camp asking if I had jumper leads. I have a cursory glance....nope, at home  ;D I tell him to take a bike into Licola to get leads, but they've run out of fuel.  So I tell him I'll help in the morning. We then enjoy our night around the fire - even played some of our music at a quiet level  :D

The next morning, after a quiet night in the bush (apart from the wind) he wanders back for help. I tow start him and his now sheepish mates so they can head home.... I just smiled to myself thinking about karma

Apologies for the rant/hijack.
