How clean do you camp???
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:14:03 PM »
The thought crossed my mind today as I washed my "picnic" box (plates, cuttlery, tongs, bowls, cups) that is our main eating/cooking box when we camp. It is the first time in 12 months I have cleaned it, it usually only gets cleaned after each meal while camping, even then we are lucky to use detergent!

When we get home, the camper stays closed until the next camp. During the last morning of any trip, we just sweep out the main tent and take out the sheets (which get washed and set aside for the next trip).

That's about it. If the trailer got dusty or muddy I might high pressure hose it and let it dry before putting it in the shed.

Are we dirty pigs??? We let the kids get dirty and muddy when camping and keep our shoes on in the tent. That's how we've always camped, really like to get the feel of the dirt/nature haha!

I took my kids (6 & 8 ) camping for a week without my wife, she noticed that in the photos the three of us seemed to be in the same clothes in most of the photos, the washing pile wasn't very big either!!

We try to clean every thing as we pack it away.

Makes for less post-camp cleaning when we get home. We just back the camper into the shed and walk away knowing it is good to go next time. Put t
A load of washing on and we are good to go.

Nothing better than having a shower in the bush then a clean set of cloths ( not that they last long   ;D ) then out to collect more dirt .
The washingup gets done or l dont get to eat , so that happens . The CT gets a sweep & or a wipe down then packed up . At home its reset to air then packed away after a few days . As its a soft floor a sweep of the underszie of the floor keeps it tidy for next time . Then restock the fridge

Usually pretty fussy. Clean clothes most days, wash up morning and night. Clean out most boxes after each trip. Floor swept each pack up.

But that said, I am typing this in a tent which has red sand all through it, and used dishes during the week which had only had a wipe with paper towel, no water at al.  I guess it depends on what is realistic for the environment I am in.

Ps, it's raining in Birdsville, so I am not being fussy this trip.

We try to keep things reasonably clean as we go. No worries about wearing our clothes for a few days as long as they smell.

I always use hot water and detergent when washing up; you don't want to get crook whilst you're camping, this trip or the next.

Not so bothered about clothes and showers (though I do prefer a nice warm shower) but always hot water & detergent for the dishes PLUS I usually put them through the dishwasher when I get home as an extra precaution.

I got gastro once while on holiday and plan for it never to happen again!

Now when with missus and kids fairly clean,   But when blokes week or similar may not always be tidy or clean, but all gear we always cleaned properly prior to storage,  we used to burn our clothes on the last day, because after fishing in them all week,   Was simpler

As most of our camping is on Fraser, we are pretty tidy because of the dingo's.

However, once we get into bed, we go at it like two farm animals... >:D

For us hygiene ( dish washing, toilet, hands) is A+.  As for the general tidiness, well that gets a bit 2nd hand after a few days. I suppose we are still getting a system worked out, as we don't camp a lot, but it's getting better with shoes on/ off here and not there, and general things like that.

food stuffs good clean after each use although with paper plates on steel plates there is really only the cutlery and the pan to wash in hot soapy water, but shoes off in camper, no showering for 2 nights, but new sheets every trip sorta thing, and i always pack everything away incase o hasty retreat is required for some reason or another so far quicker pack up next day.

I wear cloths till they stand up by them selves. Wash dishes and cooking stuff every day usually after breakfast and tea.
Clean jocks and socks every now and then.
Mrs like the shower every day.
Master image wouldnt change or shower if we didn't make him
Miss image is a bit better but not as bad as Mum.

We also try to keep things reasonably clean as we go along, usually wash dishes and cooking stuff every day, makes it easier and helps reduce time when packing up

Now when we pack up floor is swept, all gear is put away so the van is ready for the next time we go away.
Mrs usually likes to go through the cupboards and see what needs to be replaced and what needs to be restocked

Don't get away as much as we like so the van sits in storage, so sheets, pillow cases etc we usually like to wash them after each trip
By packing clean sheets etc each time we go away it removes the need to carry 2 sets of bedding in the van so when we go away in the cooler months we pack warmer sheets etc

You could go nude, then no washing of clothes required. The problem then is the sudden overwhelming desire to play volleyball…

While camping/travelling we make sure we wash up with hot water and detergent (don't want any tummy bugs), the soft floor camper gets swept before pack up so as to keep the grit out of the bed. We have a bit of a bucket wash each day and change the undies but outer clothes get changed when grotty or on the morning we roll into our friends cattle station.  During the last morning pack up we change the sheets/doona cover and put them in the dirty clothes bag so that when the camper is up to air (if required) no linen to change.  While travelling linen gets changed if in a place to do the washing.
When we get home the camper gets a good pressure wash and the mechanics are checked... the clean linen/towels are put into their box and any consumables used are replaced.  Then the camper is rolled away and we know its ready to go at a moments notice.
I guess we try to stay pretty clean.
