Wife has been at me for a new dining set as the current ones  pushing on with age[ 25+ yrs ] and a bit tired ..  Viewed all the cattledogs for Hardly normal and Asia-Mart and online crap ...
 Im not paying through the nose for  Noggy cardboard veneer  crap [ +  I'm a tight arse ] Sooo its out with a screw driver, staple gun . Found  a fancy quilt cover in the linen cupboard  and PRESTO an hour of my time, one Fancy quilt cover with big square  holes cut in it and the chairs now feature new fancy coverings ... Painting of the timber work will come later ..
Some how she just doesnt seem too impressed with her   " NEW "   Errr well almost dining set ..  Time for a cold one ..

years ago we were shopping for a dining table and coffee table and I couldn't believe the prices they were charging for what was basically chipboard furniture...we ended up buying a solid slab coffee and dining table from the Eumundi markets for about the same price the chipboard rubbish was. We were lucky and got in before solid slab furniture became popular, some of the prices I see they charge now for the same stuff we have blows me away.

its dazzling isn't it!! We bought a 30-40yr old solid timber one that needed a clean up and will last another 50 yrs unlike the chipboard that'll last 50 months

Semi-sand it back and leave it, then you'll have one that looks like the "Responsibly Sourced Timber" furniture, that's the in thing now. You know, the stuff that supposed to be made from recycled timber from old fishing boats in India. And it costs the same, if not more, that stuff made from brand new plantation grown timber.

Made a couple of minor changes to the swan to make it more functional.

Pulled out the microwave and replaced it with a drawer. As we almost never camp where there's power and have no great need of a microwave the space is much better spent storing pots and pans and hiding marshmallows apparently (she's going to have to find a new spot for that!). Finished it with a healthy dose of cutting board oil as I prefer not to paint over woodgrain if I don't have to. Used self closing drawer runners, and was prepared to fit a spring bolt in to hold it while moving, but the self closing slides stay in there pretty tight on their own.

Then made the ridiculous wardrobe more usable by building in some shelves. What kind of maniac is hanging clothes up on hangers while camping? Being the rugged, outdoorsy type that I am I never take more than 3 or 4 of my finest dinner jackets on a camping trip anymore. The boss especially loves the broom holder. I told her she's a much better broom holder, to lukewarm response. Some people just don't understand romance I guess.

One of the first things we have asked caravan manufacturers whilst shopping around around is, can we change the microwave to a draw / cupboard and the hanging cupboards to shelves....Seems stupid to me why they build them the way they do

Not man cave as such, but back yard.

Have been neglecting the lawn simply due to lack of time, so have decided to dig in and get it in tip top shape.  Over last few weeks or so have started with a weed and feed, followed by (a poor attempt) at aeration, soil wetter / conditioner, oversewn to thicken it up and finally a healthy dose of slow release fertiliser.

I am North East Vic based so the predicted rain event has started here this morning, so we will see how much we get over the next few days.  Hopefully it is nice and stead, and not a deluge and wash it all away!!

The way the rain is coming down presently, I'd suggest the only thing getting fertilised will be the storm drains......................

Greased all the unis and cv joints on the prop and tail shaft of my wife's FJ Cruiser. Drives much nicer now.

I continued my rear draw build for my ute, hopefully will fab up the draws next week sometime and I also installed the internal frame for the canopy roof bars I did yesterday.  Good weekend in my carport

Thanks Ragman, I looked into the titan, but I wanted to have a crack doing my own, put my mind to some use and figure it out and maybe learn a bit, I drew the plans up on autocad and am enjoying the build process, just a little bit at a time.  I got the ally for free (carton of beer), my neighbour has done some of the welding but I’m now ok to finish it off, I’ll probably come out at a similar price to the titan ones by the time I paid for freight to the Pilbara and these will be substantially lighter.

looks better then it is....each battery is only 35AH (originals were 33AH) equals 210AH all up, it's the way Kimberley did it for some reason. Sadly the size of the area behind the draw the batteries are in limits what you can put back in there, so easier just to replace like for like...the old batteries would be atleast 5 years old now. Not a cheap exercise, over $700 in batteries there

Just spent the last few hours giving the Cruiser it's yearly cut and polish, wish I'd picked a cooler day, and "no" I'm not polishing the bloody alloy bar again.... lol.  It'll be fine the way it is !!!
