Gave the new baby a run.

Very compact, yet nice and easy to use..... :cup:

It's even easier than my old EMF Transarc 230 3 phase banger.

just finished my hp microserver backup nas rebuild, with freenas as the base and some juicy zfs mirrors providing some much needed backup space...

now i can look to experimenting with a raspberry pi 2 and kodi, to replace my wdtv live boxes...

I did look at Freenas again and still decided against it for a few reasons
Ages ago I had a freenas box with some important data on it. Had a lightning surge and poof went my normal PC. Fried the motherboard and HDD's. No problems I thought, just fire up the NAS (which was off at the time) to access my backup. Oh No, it had decided to have a raid hiccup and no data there either. Lucky I had a 3rd copy on a USB HDD. Raid still scares me with problems I have had at work with them. If my Unraid box dies I can mount the drives in another box and still access the data.
Second reason is recommended hardware is 16GB ECC ram mainly to run the ZFS file system. My Unraid system 16GB and is at 6% RAM utilization at rest.
Thirdly I can run VM's in Unraid.
Let us know how it goes, interested to hear.

from what I can understand, 16gb ram is mainly recommended if the file server is actually a production file server.  mine isn't, insofar as mine is just a backup repository that just gets written to once a day and then I take ZFS snapshots once every 3 hours.  mine is running on 4gb ram at the moment and is quite happy.  just completed the file transfer and even at full speed, it was performing fine...

the more important feature that I would consider before adding bucket-loads of ram to a freenas box is an ssd for caching... I have seen this in action and it works a treat on production file servers...

one reason I like freenas is that it does use zfs, so I can move the drives to another zfs-capable OS (solaris, openindiana, etc) and just plug straight in...

I'm comfortable working with zfs, so freenas seemed like a good backup repository option... time will tell... :)

Garage actually.
With the help of a mate who fits stereos for a living we installed new JVC amp, Fusion sub and Sony 61/2" 3-  way speakers into Nav.
Came to the conclusion that my head unit is unacceptable, so in 2 weeks we will install a new head unit and fit rear speakers.
It took nearly 2 hours to trace and remove all the wires that one of the two other (paid) stereo installers had put in the dash.
We have no idea what they were for, they went from the main battery to up under the dash and were just zip tied in a loop.
Once we install the rear speakers I will tidy the wiring behind the back seat.

Great week-end of tinkering  :D

First job, above the daughters bunk is a couple of shelves that she likes to keep her girly stuff on, but everything would bounce out when we were travelling. $10 worth of elastic cord from spot light, and a little bit of knot tying, I was able to make a couple of luggage nets for the shelves.



2nd job, sick and tired of kneeling down to use the tap under the drawbar for hand washing when on the move I decided to make use of one of the 2 jerry can holders on the back. Found a "Boab" brand jerry can that is tuff as, and has a recessed tap. Fitted a better tap, along with a soap pump-pack in a bicycle drink bottle holder. Now we have 20l of hand washing water separate to the campers tanks.



3rd job, also sick of kneeling in the dirt to pump-up / let down the airbags, I bought a duel gauge and switches that I've plumbed into the lockers air compressor. Now I can adjust the air suspension from the comfort of the drivers seat.



All round a productive and satisfying weekend  ;D  ;D  ;D

One question though - how do you get on with your number plate as it appears to be half hidden by the spare? Doesn't that breach the wonderful "visible from 45`rule"?  :police:

Sealed the concrete floor of the new shed.
Will be much easier to keep clean.  ;D

Hopefully you get the same sort of warning I got, the Traffic Sargent saying that something like that could be a $4xx fine, but just pull and get it fixed...
Also blew 0 on the breathalyzer....

Was just a 1" wide trap slightly obscuring the plate, nothing as awesome as a spare tyre & grilling rack on a patriot camper trailer (where is the envy emoticon...)

Thanks Barry. Diamond Coat's a Crommelin Product.

I emailed Crommelin in March and asked for their advice re garage floor sealers.
They recommended this stuff for my use:

I did mine with a paint for garage floors. Can't remember the name, but it has fine glass beads in it (powder fine) that gives good grip even when wet. The beads aren't noticeable to look at, it just looks like it's a low sheen paint. Good stuff though and really hard wearing.

I spent Sat in a mates shed while he started building me a fridge slide/swing for the CT which got to about 80% done

I spent time in the cave working on a radio controlled platform to be used on stage when required using a couple of wheel chair motors.  Concept proven just waiting on some elecrtonics to arrive to finish it.

Replaced the starter motor in the wifes Pulsar, looked at gas bottle rings but didnt like what was on offer so made my own.
  Not mounted it yet as next job was to remove the jerry holder so the gas bottle can go in its place.
