I know this post will not interest most butBuilt my new all in one server/PC/NAS/VM machine to retire 3 other old PC'sXeon E3-1241v4 CPU16G ECC ramSupermicro X10SL7-F motherboardFractal design R5 caseSeasonic 520W fanless power supply2 x 6TB WD red drivesIs running unRaid base operating system to power the NAS which has VM capabilities so I can run Windoze 10 in a virtual machine. Is up and running and copying 3 TB of data onto it now. Much goodness.
Hi PacemanI did look at Freenas again and still decided against it for a few reasonsAges ago I had a freenas box with some important data on it. Had a lightning surge and poof went my normal PC. Fried the motherboard and HDD's. No problems I thought, just fire up the NAS (which was off at the time) to access my backup. Oh No, it had decided to have a raid hiccup and no data there either. Lucky I had a 3rd copy on a USB HDD. Raid still scares me with problems I have had at work with them. If my Unraid box dies I can mount the drives in another box and still access the data.Second reason is recommended hardware is 16GB ECC ram mainly to run the ZFS file system. My Unraid system 16GB and is at 6% RAM utilization at rest. Thirdly I can run VM's in Unraid.Let us know how it goes, interested to hear.I just had a drive rearrangement last weekend as well and now have another 4TB Red as well as the 6TB existing in my new box. Now to move some data around..... Too much drive space is never enough.
One question though - how do you get on with your number plate as it appears to be half hidden by the spare? Doesn't that breach the wonderful "visible from 45`rule"? Graeme
SHHHHH, don't tell anyone. I've wondered about that myself, as it's been that way since new. Might get around to moving it one day.
Sealed the concrete floor of the new shed. Will be much easier to keep clean.
What did you seal it with Barry?
Can of stuff for Bunnings. Diamond Coat (?) don't have it here. The same brand also do a product for tiles.
Peer pressure shamed me into moving my number plate
