Pulled the starter motor out of the Cruiser and sent it to the auto leccy for a birthday. Pick it up tomorrow. No more clickety click.

Cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings on the Patrol. They haven't been looked at for ages, so I thought I'd better check. Didn't really need to worry, but it's done now.

It will be a lot easier job when you have your hoist fitted in the shed Geoff.

I have been hanging out to finish my camper rebuild, but I am overseas for three out of every 4 weeks.
The weekends Im at home it never stops raining and I need clear days to finish.
So to prevent boredom and mass murder I build other things.

My hell boy gun started last visit is now finished
it has a barrel of approx 5 inches and cylinders approx 25mm dia.
This is apparently too small, the full sized one is 10 inches with 50mm cylinders.

Dont judge me please.................boredom is a terrable thing.

here is the first finished one.

Here is the comparison of the small to large.

here is the build up to painting stage. Ill paint it next visit.

they take over a week to build and the large one weighs over 2 kilo.

I dont think there would be a market out there for them.

Im going to have a go at steam punk next, ......................unless of course the weather is good enough to finish the damn tailer :'(

Oil beats poly every day of the week for natural timber look. Also looks a heap better 3 years down the track after a bit of use and easier to repair.

I love the sheen of a couple of coats of tung oil and buffed with some cabinet makers wax.

BTW. Excellent wood skills you have.

There is a huge difference between toy gun building and crafting that table.

One is a waste of time and one is craftmanship.

Beautiful table, Id give it a nice deep lustre by french polishing it.
It takes forever, but the finish is out of this world.

Cheers

Tung oil or boiled linseed oil, some spar varnish and some gum turps does a great job on timber...

4 or 5 coats (with a light sand in between coats) and it should come up nice...

Got the idea from here:

Danish oils good stuff its not cheap but you'll never beat the finish except for possibly proper french polishing and that's not very resilient and blooms like crazy if you put anything wet/warm/hot on it
