Thick Work Socks??
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:53:13 PM »
I have worn explorers under my work boots and hiking boots for the past 20 years but reckon the last few pairs have not been the quality they use to be.  Also the price of them has got ridiculous considering this.

Keen to know of any other good thick comfortable double layer workboot suited socks that others are using. Preferably wool or wool blend and did I mention thick!

Any good online bulk buy leads would alos be gratefully accepted.

Cheers,
Burnsy

Been doing a bit of googlingaround the net and it seems I am not the only one who has found explorers lacking in recent times!!

A few years ago I bought a few pair of socks recommended by the sales person at a workwear shop
thicker in the toe & heal area. They are the very nice to wear.
I will check for a brand when I get home today & advise.
cheers

I have no experience, but read something recently - look into bamboo socks.

Lorpen coolmax.

Never go back to anything else after these.
And they last for ages. I don't wear holes in them like all the others I've tried.

Yes bamboo socks wear them every day with work boots the only thing is they take a long time to dry after washing and you have to wash them inside out but very comfy sock

I have been wearing "Bush Basher" socks, made from Merino wool.

Have had 6 pairs for 9 months now and they are not showing any signs of wear and still holding their shape.

It's a strange thing, i find every few years i buy replacement explorers, there's often 1 pair that are not up to the normal expected Explorer quality....... it's like they are made from different material...... The mrs has just a few days ago bought home 5 new pairs, they were $5 a pair, i'll see how they go........

I use Alpaca socks from a place in the Grampians. Thick, warm and they have lasted several months so far. I have several pairs.

Once I bought a pair of these about ten years ago I never bought explorers again. I found them at the local market and I still get them there.

Another vote for explorers. On my feet all day at work and when I wear a different sort there's a big difference in comfort. For me anyway everyone is different

I have no experience, but read something recently - look into bamboo socks.

I have 8 pairs of these 3 years in the Pilbra with a record temp of 54 degrees one day these socks are awsome keep your feet nice and dry

Only drawback is they take while to dry out on the line

I find the elastic always wears out before good time. I no longer buy explorers, too expensive and not the best quality anymore.  I buy more technical type hiking socks for work wear, with good wickerability. Ie, it means they wicker away sweat more easily......

Anything that canput up my cheesy feet has got to be good!!!
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"

Yep bamboo are the go.

My bamboo socks tend to leave black fluff on my feet after I take them off.  And a hole has already formed one big toe. Disappointing as only about four months old.  Maybe I got the cheep ones.  Amazingly soft and comfy, though.

Try trimming your toe nails, that might fix the problem
