I know most of you would not remember an instrument called a typewriter. It was a mechanical device that you used to print letters onto a sheet of paper by hammering down on the keys.

In my old job and back in the old days, we would have to type our reports on one of these instruments, original plus 5 copies. Again for most of you, we would have to place sheets of carbon paper between each sheet of paper, making sure the carbon is the right way around. This carbon paper would make an imprint onto the paper but you had to make sure you really hammered the dam keys. Not to mention if you made a mistake and using the whiteout on each sheet.

It was not uncommon that you would start to type your report, get a call and have to leave very quickly, come back and continue typing. And the paper back then was foolscap size, not A4, so you can imagine how much typing it took to fill a page, especially if you are a two finger typer like me. Anyway you would type, type, type, get to the bottom of the page and as you scroll you realise some mongrel has typed rather course words while you were out.............. at the very bottom of your page! Rip all of the paper out, scream, swear etc and start all over again, knowing same mongrel is nearby rolling around laughing. Kevin
