It's Official ... I'm Shocked!
« on: November 19, 2012, 05:54:08 PM »

Hi Guys,

Shared from my FB page:

OZtrail Leisure Products shared Ron & Viv Moon's Remote Australia's photo.

If anyone has any information on who shot Noodle the pet camel near Birdsville, you'll be richly rewarded....

From the Birdsville Cop

 Police Seeking Assistance

In mid September 2012, Noodle, a pet camel was shot at Durrie Station, 100 kilometres east of Birdsville. After Noodle was shot he was decapitated and his head removed from the scene. It was obvious that Noodle was a pet camel as he had a nose peg and a very friendly nature. Police are seeking assistance from the public for information regarding the unlawful killing of Noodle. If anyone has any information regarding this offence contact myself or Tim Farran at Bedourie, or if you wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A reward for the apprehension and conviction of the person(s) responsible for killing Noodle is offered. Persons involved in killing Noodle are not entitled to claim the reward. I would like to thank the following businesses for their kind donations.
 Neale McShane, OIC Birdsville Police.

$1000.00 cash from Dusty Miller, Birdsville Bakery,
2 nights’ accommodation with meals from the Birdsville Hotel,
Seasons admission to the Birdsville Star Show,
Travel with Birdsville Police & National Parks Ranger on a Desert Patrol to Poeppels Corner, camping overnight,
 $100.00 fuel from Birdsville Roadhouse

Am truly getting tired of reading about cruelty to poor defenseless animals. :'(
The punishment for this type of crime ought to be an "eye for an eye"

Just joined the forum... So hi! Agree 100% with like treatment for the person who did this.. Would gladly see them locked up, no reward necessary. But it's great to see that so many are willing to provide one.

Dave.

Aside from this being appalling, the scary part is that people who  treat animals like this usually have the same attitude towards people.
I hope they are caught and put away.

Cheers

Im not condoning the actions of the person who did this to the Camel but, they are classed as feral animals and are quite often hunted by station owners to reduce the impact on the environment along with Brumbies and Buffalo.

DP from my reading of it, there is a difference between wild and pet.

X 2 ... I'm the one who raises and rehouses feral kittens around here ... I'm known at work as The Cat Lady ... so all those found are given to me - we have a large feral population in our industrial estate which is a real shame  >:(  I find its a very rewarding thing to do.   ;D  I'll be spending some of my holidays at my local RSPCA shelter - it's a humbling experience IMHO.

My avatar is one of my feral babies.  He's neutered (of course) and is very much the Lap Cat ... but when I first got him, he was tiny, covered in fleas and very spitty.  A bit of love makes all the difference.  <3

The difference between feral/wild and pet (to me) is the love, care and consideration of a person (s) ... in other words: A Care Factor.

I'm sure the bloke who owned Noodle is really missing him/her and would give anything to have Noodle back ... alive and well.  I think the person who shot and beheaded Noodle (please, please, please ... let it be in that order) should have the book thrown at them + jail time.  It's all too often that serious crimes against animals are given a far too lenient sentence - just verbal a slap on the wrist.

X3. It is very sad and sickens me that a person can be cruel to an animal that is someone's loved pet. A few years ago I lost my lovely, gentle natured dog to a suspected baiting, It was heart breaking taking her to the vet and have the vet not being able to do anything for her  :'(

Its only the human mind that thinks this way.  Whether an animal is a pet or not is irrelevant to the animal.

Awful that this happened for the owner, no different to a bullet in the head for any other animal though.

True ... I love steak and lamb roast as much as the next camper ... so it's the humans that decides it's fate.  I'd prefer my steak come to me killed in such a way that created no overt suffering to the animal.  Yes, I've killed for food on the farm, so don't bother telling me how it's done because I know.  Yes, I loved those animals both alive and dead ... I knew why they were there and what was to become of them ... didn't make it any easier for me.  Animals do feel things - anyone who has a pet can agree to that.

BUT - this killing was 100% pointless.  It wasn't done for food.  It wasn't done to shorten suffering.  It wasn't done because the animal was part of a feral population cull.  And that's what makes it plain old everyday WRONG.

....and cutting the head off, was that really necessary???

I think not.
I couldn't imagine it would be an easy task.

Thats some sure determination there.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....
