It's nice when you get comments about an old school bike.  8)

Indeed.

Thought you'd like my latest new old bike. Picked it up locally to see if I liked track. Previous owner wanted to try track, he rode it 5 times then never rode it for years. I am hoping to get to at least 6 rides :)

What is it, a 3 or a 4? What are the wheels, tubs or high pressures?  ???

I love Track, you can't rest or wander off in your thoughts.  ;D

Dunno, I just bought it home and put it on the stand. I haven't stripped it yet. What is a 3 or 4? I think/hope they're clinchers.

The different models. 3 was a good one but the early 4's not so much. I'll take tubs over clinchers for the Track any day thank you.  ;)

How do I work out the model? The seller knew less than I did about it. They're clinchers, Schwalbe Stelvio. Has a 48 up the front and a 15 and 16 (I think) on the rear.

Had a long chat with John Kennedy this morning when I picked up my wife's bike after getting a broken spoke in the back wheel replaced... $35 for spoke, true and rim tape - can't complain about that

Was talking about my old TCR 2 that doesn't fit me properly, and he was suggesting that I reframe it as opposed to replacing it...

Hasn't even contemplated that until now

I need to drop into his shop and have a look, lot's of history and knowledge there.

Reframe is an interesting option. Provided the groupset/wheels etc are in good condition it is worth considering.

The groupset and wheels are in pretty good nick, but I'd get more for it as a whole bike I think

Please explain? I've never heard of this before.  ???

So what size frame do you have and how tall are you and what's the stem length?  ???

Okay, I just found out the easiest way to identify and if it has a round seat post, it's a 3 and if a elongated one, it's a 4.  ;D

Yeah, it was a new one for me also...

It's a 2003 Giant TCR 2, size medium, I'm 175cm, and it's got a 130mm stem (which I believe it's about 50mm too long)

I get a sore neck, and ache in the back of my ears when I ride it, which from my research says the stem is too long, rather than the chain stays being too short?

Specs and geo here https://www.giant.co.jp/2003/pop_pics_spec/pop_tcr_2.html only I have Mavic CXP22 rims on 105 hubs

Okay, I'd start with a 90-100mm stem and bring your seat forward by 5mm. Being 175cm, a medium should fit you well.  ;)

Round 27.2 seat post, so it's a 3. Still dunno what that means :)

Yeah 130mm stem is way too long. You're looking for about 54-56 from the tip of the saddle to the centre of the bars at the headstem.

I'll PM you when I'm home and got my hands on a shorter stem if that's ok with you?

Yeah, it's the model.  ;D

Came up alright with a degrease/wash, repurposed tyres/tubes and setup to my measurements. Will replace the bar tape tomorrow.

Sure, happy to help, make sure it's before you start buying stuff.
