I like Merida as well. Originally we had a Merida Big Trail 600 on order for my son and the delivery date kept getting pushed back. In the meantime, I felt like my hardtail was starting to beat me up a bit so I was having thoughts about going full squish. So I had settled on a Merida 140 600 but of course, no one could tell me when I would see one. Next on my list was a Norco Sight A3 and when I went in to order it I spied the 160 700.  Admittedly the 160 is an XL and I only need a large but Merida do make their bikes on the smaller side so it's a little bigger than the large in the Norco. In the end she knocked $500 off and I got it for a hundred bux more than what the Norco was going to cost me and the Merida is way better spec.

Just got my brand new to me
Merida big 9 100 mountain bike.

What tyre pressure is normal on these bikes?
Mine seems very low

They are maxxis ikon 29x 2.20 tyres

65 psi seems way to high though.
As I haven’t cycled for about 40 years, this is all a little new to me.
Thanks lloyd

I don't have much mtb experience.
At my weight (76kg) with tubed tyres, as they look to be, I'd be 25-30psi f, 30-35psi r.
Heavier a touch more, lighter a touch less.
Tubeless a bit less too, as the risk of a pinch flat is much reduced.

Looks like you're running tubes and it also depends on where you plan to ride and how many kgs you are. If you're going to ride on rail trail/bike path/smooth surfaces, I'd try low 50 front and high 50 rear. If you're going to ride MTB trails and need more grip then I'd try low 40 front and high 40 rear. You can start there and try different pressures to find the 'magic' pressure that works for you. You want to avoid rim dings and snakebites by running too low.

Just checked mine, I'm running a semi slick on my mountain bike at the moment with tubes, and they're at 65...

As a reference, I'm 94kg at the moment, and I haven't had flats for years

Your tires will be more forgiving

My gravel bike has 40c tyres, so narrower and requiring higher pressure. Faster too though.
35psi front and 40psi rear at my weight.
My mtb has bigger tyres and still tubed.
Higher pressure = rougher ride and less grip.
The balance is to avoid rim strike.

How are you going with the look cleats?

There is much more float than the Shimano, so I'm going to put the black ones on and see how they go. The black cleats are supposed to be zero float.

Cheers. I use the blue shimano goers that are supposed to have 2° of float I think.
Haven't used look in over 10 years. Can't remember what they were like to pedal in. A bit worse to walk in I think I recall.

Yeah I had Blue on my Track shoes also.

This is the first session on the track with the pedals, so a lot of slow rolling in between efforts on the boards. Just remember how little I've done with training this year.  :'(

Had an old Club mate ring me today, 40yrs since I last saw him and he has a heap of old stuff that he wants to unload. There are two custom made Whippet frames that were his father's + a set of wheels with Airlite hups, a set of Cane rimmed wheels plus a load od of Campag, Shimano and Zues gear.  ;D Going to organise to catch up with him for a look.  ;D

Nice, however the arse has fallen out of the retro bikes and parts market. I'm trying to sell some of my prior builds and not getting any interest :(
