Our body may operate like efficient machines, but I think I forgot to get mine serviced between the 100K and the 500K mark somewhere, and that is something that I will probably take a considerable amount of time to rectify.  Fortunately I have that much information available now after commencing this thread, if I fail it will be due to laziness on my behalf, and that is not going to happen.

I should have reread my post before posting,,, we are over efficient at storing it and and down right uneconomical at shedding it  8)
Ps I cut sugar out of my tea and coffee and totally gave up coke too .
Just learn to treat feeling a little hungry all the time as a proof reward, that what your doing is working.  :cheers:

Jogged a bit less than 1km today in work boots (there was a reason, not for the fun of it).  Barely even got my heart-rate or breathing up (like it shouldn't), it's amazing how much better I've gotten in the last month or so (I wouldn't have considered jogging let alone made the entire distance without having need of my Asthma meds).  Also I was a fair bit faster and more fluid than I used to be.  Much lighter on my feet, no jarring through the body and this was in work boots.  I already knew I was fitter and faster from tennis, but sprinting around the court in short bursts was leaving me a little winded, I was surprised by how little the jogging effected me.


Just learn to treat feeling a little hungry all the time as a proof reward, that what your doing is working.  :cheers:

That's what I'm loving about my diet, I only feel hungry coming up to meal times and am 100% satisfied by said meals.  Don't even need snacks, the only time I feel any real hunger is if I go off diet for a few days in a row.

Good luck to everyone that's decided to start a course, and keep going everyone that's already began, it is worth it and you can do it.

My wife and I keep fit we are in our late 50,s both go to gyms me for the last 10yrs wife 15yrs I weigh 92kg I do free weights wife weighs 52kg and does a boxers training and a lot of PT.She is super fit but was told last week she is too light and must gain weight I was told the opposite to loose weight but im not overweight just bulked up. This is where this weight chart one size fits all doesn,t add up.I think you know if your not fit you could be in the weight range on the chart but it means nothing.Every year when I have my medical doc says every thing is good but you still are overweight I say Bulls### and he points to his chart and says yes yes yes. Whilst I understand what you have expressed, I am absolutely tired of listening to the so called experts.  I would much rather glean what I can from what the average person (of which I am one) has learned through life experience.
I consider diabetes to be the same as many other conditions, and there are so many people with diabetes that by saying "this is what I want to know", then I find out various methodologies that will allow me to achieve my goal.
I have received quite a few messages from other diabetics, and they too feel the same as I do.  Amazingly there is a variety of things that can be done, without rattling from tablets, that help one control the diabetes.  Since I have been reading the responses, I have also started reading food labels, and I am shocked as to how many food varieties contain copious amounts of sugar, it is scary to say the least.

Have hit 40kg total loss.

Well close enough, I was 116kg fully clothed after drinking a 1L smoothie (peppermint tea, mixed berries, coconut oil, whey protein, ground almond and flax seed, and some chia seed).  I'm guessing that should be enough to put an extra 1kg on.

Forgot to weigh in before I got ready.

Hi Tjupurula your really in the right headspace to change your life I,ve always tried the self help path and most times it has worked for me.Like I said before your the only one who knows how you feel if your happy how your living life or enjoying it.The other + about keeping fit is it flows on to your family my two girls are both into keeping fit but are still having a good time as well.Keep a post on your progress and the best of luck. This is the biggie with the no sugar approach advocated back in my original post. The rule with that one is you avoid anything that has more the 5grams per 100 sugar. There are all sorts of things that exceed that that you would never think of,  everything from peanut butter to BBQ sauce can have huge amounts of sugar. The other thing to watch is the foods that most people see as "healthy", the stand out one being dried fruit. Something like a dried apricot has nearly as much sugar as a chocolate bar. BUT everyone says, what is wrong I eat normal apricots, these are just minus the water. BUT how often do you just eat 1 or 2 dried apricots, if you are like me it is a handful a dozen or so - most people wouldn't eat 12 fresh apricots in one hit. Dried fruit also has fructose - one of the worst sugars for the body. That is the the other thing with the no sugar approach my wife and I are on, there are good and bad sugars. Glucose is good, dextrose (the sugar in beer) is good, sucrose (Table sugar) is bad and fructose is bad.

Hi All,
Its been a while since I have checked the site, Since there was some interest in my weight loss i thought I would share.

Basically you need to get your metabolism working correctly, as un natural is this will seem to do stick with it

Eat every 2 1/2 hours, at first you wont feel hungry and will be thinking that eating when your not hungry will make you put weight on and it will for a week or so. This teaches your body that there is always food coming and it wont store fats, Once your metabolism is working you should be burning off a meal within 2 hours and be hungry 1/2 hour after that, so heres what i was doing

Wake up at 6am, take a 1/2 hour walk before breakfast, this will burn any fat stored from prevuis day plus a little extra,
Breakfast at 7 30am, usually just a bowl of musli or weetbix with Skim milk
930 - 10 am ish, varuios fruit, doesnt matter how much you have
12:30 Lunch, I was having alot of salad with either tuna, kangaroo or chicken
3pm, Protein shake or fruit, I chose the protien shake (water Based) as it was very filling and I wasnt consuming any calories
6pm dinner, again salad with either tuna, salmon, kangaroo or chicken
30 minute walk after dinner.
9pm another water based protein shake same reason as 3pm shake
bed around 10 30pm

All of my eating was low carb however you need to be in touch with your body as when you become extreemly low on carbs your body will turn to your protein stores (muscle) for food and you will start depleting your muscle, Bad breath will be the most obviuos sign of a lack of carbs, Google Ketosis.

I have attached a copy of my eating plan, have a read but bear in mind the calories are very low, you may need to adjust this a little, I would also suggest having one day a week where you relax your eating and have whatever you feel like, also dont be shy to have a beer with friends and once every 6 weeks have a week off the eating plan alltogether, it's good to shock the body.

My diary doesnt show liquid intake, basically all I had was water, however if you enjoy a coffee or tea dont be shy but i strongly suggest no dairy after 6pm and always skim milk, I did have the odd coffee every now and then

I would reccomend keeping an eating diary over a 1 week period just so that you are totally aware of your eating habbits

I am now on a body building program which involves a hell of a lot of food which is also on the eating plan,(dont mix them up) I have opted to go this way to build lean muscle which i am now 5 weeks in and loving it.

Yes you are correct.  As I said, it stunned me how many things actually have too much sugar in them.  It almost seemed that if you were watching the sugar, and the salt, there would be very little that you could actually buy off the shelf.  Kind of a disconcerting thought that.

I may as well throw in my lot as far as weight reduction.

Since January to this day-60 days, I have managed to reduce my weight by 10 kgs. I have been getting http://www.liteneasy.com.au/. They are delivered to my door. Each week I order the 3 meals per day and 1500 calorie 7 day plan. All meals are so nice and I do not feel hungry. My normal activities include riding a road bike up to 240 kms per week but during this period to now I have had about 4 weeks off due to being a bit unwell but not related to the diet.

Each day, I attempt to drink at least 2 litres of water plus several coffees. Make sure that you back off the water by mid afternoon or you may spend some time visiting the toilet during the night!

To do away with sugar, which seems to be in a lot of food, I have started using either Xylitol or Stevia which I have bought  on line from http://www.naturallysweet.com.au

Hope that is some use to you.

I will be looking at a couple of those sites you have mentioned.  I already use equal instead of sugar, but that is because of the diabetes, and I am into additional water as well, plus my coke zero, which I do enjoy.  I have actually dropped 5.6 kg's in just under two weeks, but intend to slow that down a bit, so that it becomes permanent and manageable.

Here's another catch! According to some recent research, SOME (and I can never remember which ones) of the artificial sweeteners can actually still stimulate an insulin response -  obviously for a diabetic this can a big issue, but from a weight loss perspective though, as it produces an insulin response it stimulates the body into fat production too. I THINK from memory it is saccharine in equal which is ok (and given you are diabetic I would hope the dietician would have recommended the right ones). A quick Google of insulin and artificial sweeteners will show you some of the details. I do remember that sorbitol and manitol are bad. I have avoided artificial sweeteners in everything but the coke zero - you have to have something to put Bundy in! Coffee is the only other thing, but I am working my way down from 2 sugars to 1 now and hoping for none with the next month or so.

The lactose (it is a sugar) in Milk can put your blood sugar up, but fact checking says only slightly.  I thought fructose in fruit could as well but a quick fact check says no.

I have been heard a bit about supposed "low gi" foods that end up having a massive effect on BSLs. The more information I gather the more conflicts that occur, so frustrating. 

Glad to hear you've managed to drop a few kilos off yourself.  Seems I've managed to gain 700g (since Friday), probably just variance in my fluid levels and hopefully some muscle mass although I did go a little overboard on the carbs when I was in town, so fat is an option.  I did increase my workout on Friday (left me with some very shaky muscles), Saturday I did about 45 mins worth on exercise and yesterday I jogged a km, but not much else.

The next week is going to be a challenge to keep weight off, I'm heading to Sydney and won't have my full workout session at the gym for a fortnight.  Eating within the diet constraints is a lot harder away from home, I can do most of my home exercises though as they are mostly using my own body weight rather than equipment, I'm spending one day looking at campers (just looking for the time being) and another at the Easter show, both of them I'm going to struggle with getting a healthy lunch, the rest of the time is downtime for me, others have stuff to do though.

How's everyone going?

Surprised I managed to lose any in the last few weeks, I've had a hay-fevery/asthma/man flu sort of thing ever since getting home, and barely able to exercise beyond trying to cough up a lung, plus I ate quite poorly for the week I mentioned above, including getting on the rum.

I've only lost a 1kg in 20 days though so much slower progress than when I first started.  Although technically I got up to 117kg after Sydney, and I'm down to 114kg now so not too far off the pace if I hadn't had the set back.

I have managed to get from 139.7 kg down to 133 kg in the 3 1/2 weeks since I started.   Admittedly I have been more determined than I normally would have been, but that is for other reasons.

Mate just be careful when i was cycling in melb 250k per week and doing the crits on the weekend there is no way i could survive on 1500cal. Or if i could my performance would be so lacking it was not worth it. You may say that you feeling unwell is not due to the diet but just be careful you are not running yourself down into a cronic fatigue senario. As you are on a restricted diet you may need to look at a tablet supplement due to the minerals you would be loosing through sweat when riding those kind of k's.

I know personally when i get into the big k's i loose about 10k but actually increase my cal intake. Well done for your fitness just want to make sure you are not setting yourself up for a blow out down the track.

If i take the kind of k's you are doing on the bike at say 20kph you are buring approx 7500cal per week on your 1500cal per day diet you are only consuming 10500cal per week. Remeber that you will need cals for recovery and gaining strength, your left over cals to do this is very low. I would at least be having 1 2000cal day per week of mineral rich foods as a recovery day.

I do not pretend to be an expert however being a cyclist with cerebral pawlsy as well has forced me to become very in tune with my body and its needs expecially with regards to nutrition

Hows everyone going?

Still sticking with it?

I've lost near on 10kg since my birthday in April. Started off with a detox and colon cleanse.

Started eating healthy and smaller portions, weight started dropping off. Now 86kg down from a high of 102kg. My ideal weight is 76kg, was 78kg when I got married 4 years ago this late September. Put on over nearly 20kg over about just 18 months, comfort eating, boredom eating, depressive eating, etc.
Eating healthy, eating very delicious, eating enough, eating correct tines, never feeling hungry, not craving sweets or fatty foods, not craving chocs/ice cream/ cake etc, need to exercise more, sleeping a little better, drinking lots of water, no soda/beer/alcohol which I don't miss, and happy the way its going.
Still need another 10kg to get under the weight I last was since before I hit 30 years and couldn't burn it off away as I used to.
Wife is also doing the same, same eating routine, similar cut down etc, shes dropping on average about 600-700g a week, I'm doing about 1.2kg a week, wife don't weigh a fraction of what I weighed when we started.
I'm down to a reasonable and respectable 1.2kg loss a week down from 1.6/.17 when I first started. Seeks to be levelling off now to a steady rate. Very happy so far.still going good.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

I've lost about 5Kg since March, just watching what I eat and walking a bit more during the day. Not very quick but very doable if I live until I get to my goal weight. 125 -> 90
