What bedding do you use?
« on: February 04, 2012, 02:10:46 PM »
As we are hoping to get our new camper soon,  ;D(as soon as our neighbours pay us or our current one) we are going to do a total rehash of our camping equipment. One thing on our list to possible change is our bedding. currently we use a mattress protector, then sheet then our very old sleeping bag spread out like a doona, but its starting to see the last of its days. Do you use a doona, blanket, or sleeping bag on your bed?

Queen size inner sprung mattress  ;D  inside the Quantie.  We have a mattress protector, fitted sheet, and then either just a doona cover or if cold/cool, a doona inside the doona cover.

This bed is more comfortable then we have at home, never have any problems with cold air coming through the bed.

Aluminum foil insulation under bed base. Keep heat out in summer and cold out in winter
Standard foam mattress
Woolen underlay
Mattress protector
Fitted sheet
Sleeping bags. Not spread out like a doona though. Only reason we don't use a doona is hubby complains that I either steal all the doona and make him cold or push it all on top of him and make him overheat. We have both winter and summer sleeping bags.
Blankets in winter. Also hoping to camp with power to use a heater :)
Wish we had gone for innerspring mattress though.

We sleep on the same as we do at home. Queen size inner spring matress. Fitted sheets and doona. We carry extra blankets, just in case.  When we are travelling, the matress protector goes over the entire matress.  I have never slept so well!!

Innerspring mattress in the KK with woollen underlay, then bottom sheet. Top sheet and woollen doona on top and occasionally a microfibre blanket on top...we prefer cold camping!

For summer - change the flannel sheets to cotton.  ;D

We have the original queen size foam mattress which is convaluted on the upper side - like having one of those egg shell layers added I guess.   We find it really comfy.
Mattress protector
Fitted sheet
flat sheet
doona - had bought a really cheap synthetic one for our big trip last July to NT but found the nights out west a lot colder than we expected.  Thanks goodness we had a cotton weave blanket plus another light quilt along as well and even then I had socks, tracky daks etc on and barely kept warm. ha ha    Have now bought a woollen doona as we are going to be out west again this year during the winter months so hopefully will be fine.

Cheers,
Sharyn  :D

Queen size inner spring with a standard throw of sheets and doona, with extra blankets packed as required. Gives a great nights sleep. I do like the idea of the insulation blanket under the bed!

Foam queen size mattress,
Ikea 2 inch mattress pad (this has just transformed how the foam mattress feels and hasn't increased the weight by much)
Mattress protector
Fitted sheet
Flat Sheet
Doona in doona cover
A couple of my favourite throw blankets which if its warm, I'll just use and not take the doona.

I like the idea of the insulation under the bed but does it let the bed breathe at all or do you have to air it out occasionally?

And does anyone use a canvas bed bag at all and what are your thoughts on that?

King size foam mattress with wool doona. The wool is great, warm in winter, cool in summer. We are getting an eggshell mattress topper from Clark Rubber before next trip.

Like the idea of foil insulation under the mattress.
We just use eggshell, sheet and quilt as we would at home.

Don't need to air out bed as bed on plywood is no different to being on insulation. We only put it in after reading a thread on myswag about it, and seemed like a good idea. Keeps out cold and keeps out heat. I think I read it on a thread about camping in winter.

Sheets ... cotton or flano depending on the weather
Minki blanket.  If it's hot take it off, if it's cold, add another blanket.  Those others, I'm not sure what you call them, but they are great for over the legs on the couch in winter as they are so warm and don't let the cold through, but are very light weight.

The sheets and minki always stay in the camper on the bed, other blankies roll up very small and are stored in the bedside wells.

If it's really, really, really cold, then we also throw a canvas wall over the bed as part of the 'Dual Purpose' theory.

we have a queen inner spring with mattress protector then I've sewn a doona cover we didn't use to a fitted sheet along the bottom and a foot up the sides cause i like the end to be tucked in and its just to hard n extra work tucking it in on the camper then in cold weather a sleeping bag over the top as a doona.....the kids are on camp stretchers and I've made sheets that hook onto the ends of their beds with a top sheet attached then sleeping bags in cooler months, we have just brought them the blackwolf camp pillows which they have recently used and said they were good, I've gotten pillow protectors and the random extra pillow cases that we had taking up space in the linen cupboard and cut them in half then sewn that end to make perfect fit protectors and pillow cases, we're going to try them out one night to see if we like them before buying them for ourselves.....the port-a-cot is made up like a normal bed
