I got scammed on evilbay
« on: November 24, 2011, 03:52:12 PM »
 :-[

I bought 2 x 2TB hard drives to back up photos and store my movies when travelling.
Ebay sends me an email telling me the item has been removed and the seller is no longer registered.
I have to file a dispute with paypal.......

I then get the same message for a micro sd card I bought.

While I don't hold my breath about getting my money back.... >:( I just wish I could get the damn items I payed for as I was waiting for them.
Probably better off just lobbing into Big W or JB hifi.

The more dealings I have with people the less I like humans........ >:( >:( >:(
I guess I shouldn't complain, its the first time something like this has happened to me and I've got some great buys on evilbay and sold a lot of stuff too.

Such is life...I've got beer and a camper, everything else is incidental........

Only if that were true.  Read the fine print on the PayPal website.  You will only get your money back if PayPal gets it back from the seller.  If the seller refuses to pay, then there is nothing you or PayPal can do.  If the seller is a scammer then PayPal will have as much hope in contcating them, as you have of ever seeing the goods.

PayPal don't "guarantee" your money, even though most people think they do (including me) and will simply act as mediators in a dispute.  How hard they try to get your money back is anyones guess, but with the amount of scamming that goes on I'd say they do very little.

Ask me how I know all this....

If the itams were purchased on Ebay AND were piad with Paypal AND met their widely published criteria then your money will be returned and has nothing to do with whether they can recover the money from the seller.

If you brought on ebay using PayPal and were scammed - and had PayPal reimburse you for items you never received..... well, your experience is better than mine.

I brought an PSW generator for a buy it now price through ebay and paid straight after the transaction using PayPal.  About an hour after the transaction I received an email from ebay saying the seller was suspicious (did not meet their criteria.... so I don't know how they managed to advertise the item in ebay), and advised me not to pay for it.  The email went on to say that if I had paid for it already then I should contact my bank and cancel the transaction through my credit card (linked to PayPal), then lodge a claim with the paypal dispute centre.

One thing led to another and I ended up calling PayPal.  Long story short I was advised that if the seller was not able to be contacted (eg was a scammer), that there wasn't much they could do, as they can only pass on 100% of any monies recovered from the seller.  The link you provided is terrific, and if you go and read more details in the paypal dispute / resolution centre it goes into more details about how to go about filing for a claim. Most of the wording talks about the the buyer & seller trying to work out a resolution first, if it can't be resolved through mediation, then PayPal will step in and make a decision. If the decision is in your favour you will get a 100% refund.  This is all great, but if the seller is a scammer and doesn't exist I'm not sure where they are going to get the funds from to pay you.  Nothing in the wording actually suggests PayPal will pay you, they will just make sure you get paid from the seller or the account that is frozen and in dispute..... well thats how I read all the fineprint and what I was told by PayPal when I spoke with over the phone.

I'm happy to stand corrected, but that's my experience and how understand the fine print - sorry if I came across as a know all, it wasn't my intention.  Either way, it's a warning for others to understsand what you are being covered for when you use PayPal.

Mate I do believe you are jumping on the wrong person.
If you look at his post again you will see Maîneÿ is just trying to get rotare to tell of his experiance with evil bay.
And I agree with him in that if someone has a bad experiance than lets hear it as it may save a fellow swagger some grief in the furture...

Thanks for the sentiments.
They reckon it will take at least 30 days.
By then I'll be on holiday and will no longer care.

Finally found this amongst the pages of fine print and other "helpful" (more like confusing) information on ebay and PayPal websites:

IMPORTANT: If you are eligible under PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy, PayPal may try to recover your payment from the seller, but recovery of your payment whether in whole or in part is not guaranteed. Your potential recovery is limited only to the amounts that PayPal is able to recover from the seller.

OK How about a game of KEYBOARD WARRIORS at 10 paces........ ;D

Now to get back to camper trailers......

I've bought heaps of stuff for the glamper on evilbay and never had a problem.
Can't really blame evilbay for some lowlife scammers.

Now if someone has some good links to stuff to buy, I'm willing to give it another go......

my mother used to sell seeds on Ebay, a guy complained that he never received them to paypal and they just took the money out of my mothers paypal account and then she had to prove proof of delivery if she wanted her money.
her lesson was use registered post to prove delivery and have nothing to do with ebay and paypal.

Of course your problem is if they are shonky there will be no money in there paypal account

I've had a similar experience.  Was scammed on a purchase from evilbay, and PayPal did refund my $$ however it did take a few weeks. Both ebay & Paypal were very helpful when I 1st enquired about how to get my $$ back.  Good luck with your mission!

EBay has more good point's  than bad ones, i to have made lots of good purchases on there,,  got plenty of good bargains and will continue to do so,, i did come close to getting stung on one occasion, but it was only a small amount, but paypal did refund my money. EBay to me is like an addiction..lol cant resist looking on there,, just this week i bought 2 headlamps, cree style @ $5.50 each including delivery and the best of all, a 53 inch (135 cm) RC Helicopter for $107 delivered..!... now that was this week,, the week before...........oh well we wont go there..lol
