At an elite level though they should be able to play their sport anywhere I realise all wickets and grounds play differently but the aussie's should be able to play on these grounds and grounds in India, England, New Zealand etc that is what they get paid for.  If hack players stopped getting games just because and they tried some others they might go a little further.  I hope though that you are right and that things improve as the series goes on.   :cheers:

Never been a Clarke fan, but it seems he's pretty hard to knock off the perch for some reason. Don't know why, he's not a captains A$$hole  ???

Wait for it from Clark, "let's take the positives out of it". Stuff that mate, how about rebuilding the team with talented youth and players deserving of a crack. Seriously how Watson still gets a game is bewildering??? He better bowl well as Faulkner should have played before Watson.

Going to be a long summer with a mouthy pom at work >:(

Since we batted today, please tell us all who the injured batsmen are that would have made the team...
Seriously, the reactions here are sooo negative yet nobody has put forward a serious alternative top 6 that could do much better.  Analysis first, and the prime candidate for venting frustration at should be one D Warner.  This guy simply has NFI when it comes to batting in 2 innings cricket under pressure, and for the sake of our country's cricket future should be immediately confined to short format games forever.  Move the maligned Watson back to open and bring in a BATSMAN, not a half breed "all rounder" who can't hold his place in the team as a bowler or batsman alone.   My suggestion: select haddin as a batter and bring in Hartley from our sunny state to keep.  Ridiculous?  Maybe, maybe not, but at least haddin plays positive and within his limits, unlike Warner who has a head swell commensurate with the God like status afforded the players of the modern era. And give guys a go > Hughes, Kawaja, Cowan these guys must wonder what the heck they have done wrong.  Pick a side for a SERIES, give that team a go, and then assess/drop/etx.  The recent English series had so much chopping & changing in the top 6 nobody except Clarke knew what was what.

Yeah, some reasonable comments.

Firstly, let Watson prove he can stand up and play for more that three tests in a row, and learn how to move his feet. Lost track of now many times he has got out cheaply just before lunch and put pressure on those down the order. His records speaks for itself, only three test hundreds in his career, but still considered the great white hope!

Haddin, you must be joking, yep he is a good keeper, put putting faith in a 37 year old as a batsman for the future is crazy.

Hughes, kawaja and co, agree completely, let them consolidate.

Clarke, great bat, but is being restricted by his inability to hit across the line, hook or sweep. Stood there unable to move today and got picked of.

I'll stand by my initial comment, any other sport but cricket Clarke and Watson would be pensioned off.  Playing at this level makes it very hard to hide if you can't adapt your game to match your physical ability.  Peitersen to his credit has done so reasonably well.

My suggestion RE Haddin was for this series only. I'm not saying he is a long term solution, but there isn't anyone else putting their hand up at the highest level.  At some ooint a team has to be selected that can possibly win a test or series NOW. You can't always be planning for the future. Watson is simply not technically good enough at the highest level against the best bowlers under test match rules & conditions. He is very much a flat track bully and destroyer of average attacks in the mould of David Hookes in the 70's & 80's. In short form cricket he knows roughly the line and length of each delivery he is going to receive (otherwise the ridiculous rules make it wide or no ball). This allows him to pre meditate his shots to an extent. He sets himself very early, has firm wrists (hence lots of nicks) and shuffles across his stumps playing for deliveries outside off, knowing full well that in short cricket any ball on the stumps that is even marginally heading towards leg is called wide. Unfortunately in test cricket this leads to him being highly susceptible to LBW. But who else is better? At least he has 3 tons, don't forget it took S Waugh 27 tests to get his first, then he fell in a hole and was dropped, and then returned with the grit and determination that made him an all time top 10 Aussie batsman.
That's my take on the situation anyway.

3 years ago we knocked the poms over cheap in the first with a Siddle hat trick. Then n their second innings were 1/500 odd so I'm not counting any chickens yet, but well done to the bowlers. I absolutely hope Johnson proves me wrong and manages to bowl that good all season. But the biggest problem for a while hasn't been the bowlers as they are making plenty of runs!  ;D

X3 mostly mine is about Watson and a bit Haddin.  I wont be sorry for saying things about them I am not saying I can play better but they get paid to do this so do a good job or bugger off.  Glad to see at this stage still 0 for 63 would love to beat the poms this summer
