99 XJ Cherokee Diesel 2010-2014
Love it even though the engine is supposed to be useful as a boat anchor. Mine has been great, small but capable. I don't pretend this will last forever.
-
I drive a 2005 WG Grand Cherokee Vision Series V8 and love it. Only drive it a couple of days a week now as my daughter drives us to work/school on the "L" plates in the Suzuki Swift. But I look forward to taking the Jeep and every time I drive the Jeep I love it.
Nothing better than having the camper trailer on the back, kids all loaded up and life is sweet.
Never really understood all the Jeep haters that are out and about, perhaps because my previous ride was a Chrysler Grand Voyager so I have about 14 years of Chrysler/Jeep ownership.

I was a passenger once in an ex army surplus Jeep (GP?) that my uncle had on his farm back in the 50's. Does that count?
Funnily enough it caught fire going through wheat stubble which caught up on the zorst. Doused it with water & off we went again. Apparently a daily exercise on the farm.
This wasn't limited to the jeep though.

Yeah, righto then, we have a Jeep.
Had it for about 2.5 years and its a 2004 KJ Cherokee.
Pretty good little unit, seems fine off road, oh, except when I bogged it a few times in soft sand. :-[
One issue it does have, and I can't get my head around it either. When its on cruise control, as it comes off, either by touching the brake or using the switch, it gets twitchy in the steering.
Cant understand any logic that can connect the two and it does it to the ol girl as well as myself.
Anyone else struck this?

WHAT????? You bought a Jeep!
Don't ever recall my KJ having a twitch. A long shot, but any chance some of the control wires have rubbed near the steering column. Could be way off the mark here, but if the computer is sending it's signal down the wire to deactivate the cruise control, is it also talking to the power steering or accelerator for a brief second.

I also have a Jeep. 2006 KJ Cherokee CRD. Just came back from a round trip (~8000 kms) to Perth and towing a 16' caravan. Average fuel was16.2l/100. Was overtaking gutless Navaras on hills all the way across. No Hiluxes cause they cant tow anything in 5th gear. Flame on. >:D
-
Will The JEEP :police: Be after you , for this ??? , l hope SO

I owned a 2003 KJ 2.8 CRD for a couple of years when I lived in the UK, great little truck, no problems at all while I owned it.
I currently own a 2003 WJ CRD had it 4 years and have done (nearly) 70,000km. I've been very happy with it as it drives very well for a live axle truck and is very capable off road in standard form. It has only let me down once when a couple of injectors failed and it wouldn't run. Five new Bosch (not Jeep) injectors into the Mercedes (not Jeep) engine and all was good again.
Would I buy another, in a word Yes!!! Would I drive it across the Simpson Desert (again) tomorrow, Yes!!!
Best part I like about owning a Jeep is it demonstrates you are an independent and free thinker ;D

Hmmmm, I had a 96 wrangler that had way WAY to many mods on it,
Spring lift
Body lift
35" tyres
etc etc
Problem was it wouldn't go past 75kmh on the highway haha.
Oh and any time it rained it would turn into a pool lol. Didn't matter even if the roof was on or not. Never could work out where it was leaking form.
I owned it for about 8 weeks and couldn't take it any more, It drove me NUTZ lol

Yep, I bought a JEEP!!
2012 Grand Cherokee (wk2) diesel.
Great to drive, good on fuel, heaps of grunt (wouldn't know the camper was on if I didn't check the mirrors).
Love it!!
Sounds like you may be missing your WK2 scarps??

na, not really. I just knew it would start some good robust discussion:-)

If you get carried away with the lift you'll have problems with death wobble but it isn't the sole domain of Jeeps.

We test drove , and test drove the 2013 GC but couldn't do it and went a prado, after we got rid of the navara, as ours wasn't reliable, the irony was looking at buying a jeep as the nissan kept breaking down

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, Love it. Lots of power good on fuel 30000 k's with no problems :D

Hi Scarps,
I bought my 2012 Grand Cherokee Larado CRD on the 30th June this year and have already done 8000 klm. At work, I have access to our Hilux, Mitsubishi Tritons, Holden Rodeo, and 2 diesel Colorados. Didn't mind the Colorados but the diesels made more noise than go and somewhat put me off the diesel thing. Then I drove the Grand Cherokee. Very little noise, absolutely no turbo lag, also stops on a dime, consumption figures that can't be beat, and a level of appointment that that would be hard to rival. As a deal clincher the dealer fitted the tow bar at cost and I had the brake controller fitted afterwards. I've now fitted a nudge bar so we can mount a Rod Ezy holder for trips on the beach. Just look at the Expanders down under forum and the guys there with their Grand Cherokee's let alone the Caravaner's forum. People who have criss crossed Australia with 3000 kg vans on the back. As I said to Jasman in his thread, see the difference with the camper on the back. All this and mine is the 5 speed like you had. Am I happy, you betcha. Would I still help a fellow traveller in need along the road, you betcha.

Late 80's into the early 90's I went through my Jeep phase.
I owned two Wranglers and a Commanche.
Because I was just getting started at being a full alcoholic at the same time I really dont remember much about them other than the Wranglers were both red and the Commanche was light blue...

So Bill, are you saying the Jeeps help drive you to drink?

That is called back off oversteer but never heard it happening in a straight line unless the rear diff is locked or the LSD is too tight.
-
Ok I will admit it I just bought a Jeep. It's a lifted 2004 2door TJ Wrangler twin locked on 35's and I have to say so far i'm very happy with it. But really it is just for play and the Patrol is for touring and towing. I do find it hard to understand the people that put them down because they are a very capable 4wd although they are poorly put together and not as flash as other brands inside but like the defenders basic but built for a purpose.

You just might have nailed it ya know.
We had a broken crown wheel bolt replaced a while back in the rear diff and maybe that had something to do with.
I might try thrashing the diff and bit offroad and see what happens.
At worse case, we is going off road and having fun.

My Jeep is a bitza, 1977 LJ80 Suzuki running gear, fibreglass WW2 Jeep replica body.

Had an MY12 GC Petrol Laredo for 2.5yrs and just traded if on a MY14 GC CRD Overland, in the process of toughening up the new one. I'm a car brand agnostic but I reckon you can't go past the current GC.
Scarps, with you starting a thread like this I'm thinking you may be missing the Jeep just a bit.

hi Jasman, have always maintained that my Jeep experience over 13 years was in the main a very enjoyable time. Always happy to help others express their happiness also.
Sub post - At the moment I should be wiring in a uhf, instead I'm posting on myswag.

I've got a Jeep. I drove it brand new out of the showroom in 2002. I've had it for 12.5 years this year with no problems that I can remember.
Here's mine a few years ago up at Fraser, it's ridiculous fun on the beach:

I'm currently on my third Jeep.
2002 KJ Cherokee 2.5 CRD Sport (2003-2007)
2006 KJ Cherokee 2.8 CRD Sport (2007-2014)
2014 WK2 Grand Cherokee CRD Limited (2014-)
The only problem I have had with Jeep is the cost and availability of spare parts in Australia - but I get round that by buying them from the US or Europe.

Where are you getting your parts from?
I recently got some stuff from mopar america & was happy with them.

Well, I'm new to myswag so what better way to start than to alienate everyone by admitting I have a Jeep. :D
I've got a 4dr JK Wrangler diesel auto. Had it since new, still love it and never had any problems with it.
As others have said prices and supply of parts locally can be challenging and often amusing when you see how much they try to charge. Thankfully US and UK suppliers are easy to order from, usually cheaper even including freight, and more often than not get the parts to you quicker than the local suppliers would anyway. Thank god for online ordering.

Hi Silverfox,
Try Rockauto.com and Quadtratec.com
Quadratec is more for aftermarket, be very careful as there so many aftermarket parts available in the USA... it's ridiculous! I've got stainless steel bonnet hinges and three sets of doors for crying out loud!
Rockauto is kinda like repco. I picked up some o2 sensors for $40ea delivered, locally they wanted $300ea
cheers

Try Rockauto.com and Quadtratec.com
Agree.
Quadratec gets a good range but their shipping can be expensive.
Rockauto seem great. Website quotes shipping and really quick service. Just got some new unit bearings from them for the JK. Cheaper than anyone here even after including freight from the US and delivered to my door before the local suppliers have even bothered to respond to my emails.

We are on our second Jeep.
The KK Cherokee was a compromise, since he wanted a 4wd but I couldn't see how it would go off-road more than once or twice a year. I was wrong.
It played up a few times, mostly the shockers in the Mopar 2" lift choosing to die in Copley and William Creek, SA. That was inconvenient. We also had the issue with the clock losing time. That was amusing.
The biggest issue was just before we traded it in. It took to stopping without warning and having every light on the dash come on. We got that sorted, but traded it in anyway. It was almost end of warranty, and we had spent three years watching Wranglers on tracks.
So now we have a 2 door Rubicon, and it is awesome. The gearing is so low that it can be a pain in town. But it goes well on tracks. Though it can't tow a caravan.
We also have the Patrol. It is easier to fix in remote places so it goes to those more often, and it tows. The Jeep is more for local play, or Jeep camp play.

I had an 07 Wrangler JK for 3 years. It was the most capable 4x4 I have ever owned....but the absolute worst build quality of any vehicle I have ever owned. Such a shame as it was a lot of fun when it was working. In the end it had to go after it came off lease as I wasn't going to take the responsibility of warranty repairs into my own hands, not that Jeep really helped in that regards either. If I was Jeep, I'd give the plans to one of the Japanese makers and buy them back for sale. :D
I have had 40, 60, 79, 80, 120 Toyotas and now I drive a 150 series.

Parts from
Morris 4x4 (http://www.jeep4x4center.com/)
idParts (http://www.idparts.com/catalog/) particularly for diesel stuff.

The pic says it all. This is my 7th or 8th Jeep, can't remember because I had a bit of a love affair with Audi somewhere along the way and lost count as a result.
This is my first Wrangler (apart from a 1948 CJ2A) and living my youth again.
